Sixty percent of Americans oppose Iraq war: poll (more creative headlining from Reuters)
Reuters ^ | 08/08/06

Sixty percent of Americans oppose the U.S. war in Iraq and a majority would support a partial withdrawal of troops by year's end, a CNN poll said on Wednesday.

It was the CNN poll's highest number opposing the war since fighting began in March 2003, a figure that has risen steadily since then, according to the Opinion Research Corp. survey conducted last week on behalf of the cable network.

The poll showed 36 percent of respondents said they were in favor of the war -- half the peak 72 percent who supported the war as it began, said the poll of 1,047 Americans.

The telephone survey, which had an error margin of 3 percentage points, showed 61 percent believed at least some U.S. troops should be withdrawn from Iraq by the end of 2006.

Voter anger over the Iraq war, plagued by insurgent and sectarian violence with a daily civilian death toll, was cited in the Connecticut Democratic primary defeat Tuesday of U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman, who strongly backed President George W. Bush's war effort.

I admit it: I believe that "at least some U.S. troops should be withdrawn" by the end of the year (if at all feasible). That puts me in the 61% category. I guess that means I am opposed to the war.

Well I support a withdrawl from the suni triangle. Partition it off. Let the Suni's and Shites kill each other. At the same time redeploy those troops to the Iranian border.

said the poll of 1,047 Americans.

Not registered voters; and I'm willing to bet most of them were Democrat voters. Poll is useless and only Drive-By spin propaganda for 2006 elections.

Reuters have been busted already with their bias reporting so I guess they will go ahead and come out of the closet.

What do you base your thought that troops should be withdrawn.

Don't you know that if were not fighting the terrorist in Iraq that we would be fighting them here.

This war may not be over in our lifetime.

Just get on with your life and let the military do its job to keep us safe.

Why don't they just say 100% and be done with it already? Or maybe 105%. Yeah that's it.

60% Really???

Interesting considering the poll in Connecticut yesterday showing 52% of those voting supported the Anti-War candidate....

...and that was just amongst the liberals in a blue state.

Nationwide it's probably around 15-20%.

Are you really that dumb that you think I was making a point about troop reduction, or are you playing along with me?

We can go the other way if you like and talk about the fact that only the 36% are putting forward an actual position of for or against the war. This thread is about the POLL, dummy.

And, yes, we can always use our troops both more effectively and economically, and sould be periodically reevaluating deployments.

There will be no pre-set time tables for withdrawal of troops.
Troops will be withdrawn when conditions on the ground warrant it.
We still had huge numbers of troops in Germany over 50 years after the end of WWII.
That's why Europe didn't have any major wars for over 50 years.
Before that, Europe was constantly fighting wars.

Any poll conducted by MSM (especially CNN) cannot be relied upon to have any basis in the REAL American sentiments.

It just amazes me that Democrats believe they can run in November on Iraq.

As bad as this looks, the second table below is even uglier for the Dems.

"Whoever wrote that headline should be FIRED. Just my opinion of course."

I think you're right, the headline is misleading. Of course, a 100% of the Americans are against the war in Iraq, but a certain percentage of Americans appreciates the necessity of getting the job done over there. You hardly read that in the headlines of any mainstream media.

REUTERS

Who wrote this article? What is his/her name?

I am absolutely justified in asking, since it has now been proven that Reuters is infested with liars. Before I can accept any news in this article, I must be able to research the writer. With Reuters and the other MSM Arab Muslim mouthpieces, it has become, MISTRUST AND VERIFY AND THEN POST THE PROOF OF THE LIE ON THE INTERNET!

What this really just shows is how stupid it is to keep referring to the ongoing military presence in Iraq as "the Iraq war".

I believe that the way the War is currently being fought is WRONG.

I guess that makes me "anti-war" in Reuter's view.

Which completely ignores the facts that I think:

  1. We should still be carpet bombing those areas of Iraq with high levels of insurgency activity.
  2. We should attack Iran and kill the Islamic infestation there.
  3. We should provide direct support for Isreal against Hamas and Hezbollah.
  4. Until Islamic terrorism has been whiped out as a threat, EVERY American EVERYWHERE around the Globe should take it upon themsevles to be at ALL times armed with at minium a privately owned pistol.

But I guess Reuters would still see me as "anti-war". Morons.

Yup.
Even in a hardcore blue state, only 52% of of the RATS backed the anti-war candidate.
Add in the fact the RATS won only 54% of the vote in the presidential elections in 2004, and we have something in the region of just 30% of CT voters backing the anti-war candidate..and that is in one of the bluest states you can get.
But hey, Al "Adnan Hajj" Ruters says so, so it must be so. :)

There is no Iraq war, there is the War on Terror with the Battle of Iraq, Battle of Afghanistan, Battle of America and the Battle of Lebanon along with smaller skirmishes.. One cannot be for the war and be against a selected battle. To do so would be like being for WWII and the Battle of Midway then saying you were against the battle of Iwo Jima.
