2 Of 11 Missing Egyptians Surrender In N.J.
POSTED: 4:20 pm EDT August 9, 2006 MANVILLE, N.J. -- Two of 11 Egyptian exchange students who failed to report for their college program in Montana after entering the United States surrendered to police in New Jersey on Wednesday, the FBI said.
"In response to hearing in the media that they should turn themselves in to the nearest police station, they did just that," said Steven Siegel, a spokesman for the FBI's Newark office.
The students are not suspected of any link to terrorism, he said. They turned themselves in at the Manville police headquarters.
They were being held on immigration charges. Their names were not released.
Earlier in the day, one of the other missing students was arrested in Minneapolis, the FBI said.

Were they upset about missing their month-long English class in Montana?
sorry - 9
They turned themselves in, which is to their credit, but it might be they are only doing so knowing that the entire law enforcement community in the United States is looking for them.
I'm sure they're good kids and we'll be hearing from the ACLU and CAIR soon. / s
Thanks, onyx. Sure would like to know the "rest of the story". I'm sure they have a perfectly good explanation for why they spent all that money to come to America for a college course and all eleven decided to split up and ?? (sarc)
Is it me, or does that phrase seem ironically strange?
Or they were the decoys.
That'll teach 'em to play hooky in Montana!
Took the wrong Jug Handle!! I detest those things.
how about requiring foreign exchange students from moslem countries to have to wear a GPS tracking anklet upon entry into the United States ?
Maybe it is as they say but I hardly expected to hear our government or the media report that they caught a terrorist just in the nick of time that had smuggled weapons and was part of a plan to cause mass damage. Instead, I expect they missed their plane, got lost , were scared etc.
As we say here in North Cackalacky,
"Boy, you ain't right."
The point is they are ONLY here to take a month-long class in English. Nothing more.
It is not even a semester enrollment in university. Quite frankly I don't know what Montana State is doing since this is clearly not a semester-related course (is it a second session summer class english second langues course?). Anyway these guys missed it big time so they have no reason to be in the US period.
Marty to North Cackylakky:
Just another isolated incident. Nothing to see here, folks.
This is BS. These clowns didn't "accidently" disappear FOR A MONTH. They knew damn well where they were supposed to be.
Holy crap, what does it take for the feds to take this stuff seriously?
If we can't find them before Augut 22, watch out!
And we retort:
All the cops in the donut shop say
Ay oh whey oh, ay oh whey oh
Walk like an Egyptian
Walk like an Egyptian
How about they just stay home?
No doubt the Fedds knew to find leads on these guys starting in Jeysey City.
They have probably already planted their bombs and want to get back to Egypt before they go off.
Sure it's not like any of my friends took their college money and got drunk instead of going to class. if i was from egypt and could get out for a month you would find me in the nearest bar to the airport - and i don't even drink! ;-0
How about banning foreign exchange students from moslem countries?
"In response to hearing in the media that they should turn themselves in..."
I wonder what media? The were supposedly here to learn English.
Plus, they were going to study the HISTORY OF MONTANA! "Forget those pyramids Achmed, Montana's the place to be". They must have missed an exit on the interstate;)
3 down and 8 to go...they'll find them...
In New Jersey? Isn't this where the 9 suspected terrorists were arrested recently?
No one is going to learn english in a month. i bet they all speak english and are here to improve it. maybe even one of those throw away summer courses like my friends take in spain, really just a vacation.
"Look for the Egyptian"
works well too;)
If so, we flunked the test. Chances are we never would have picked them up unless they turned themselves in. We probably don't even have photos on them. The others will probably show up in other parts of the country, when/if they turn themselves in.
Was he trying to enroll in the same flight school that Musawi attended ?
3 down 14 million to go.
and just how would that work?
Jail time followed by deportation would be most appropriate for these guys. Anyone entering the US from Arab nations should be photographed, finger printed and made to periodically report to authorities on their whereabouts. Call it profiling, but this is what we should be doing.
What happened?! Was his English (and his mapreading skills so bad) he couldn't tell the difference between Montana and Minnesota on the map? At least he headed west, unlike the other two dopes who decided to hang out in Jersey.
How about this one, "Jedi Business, go back to your drinks," while waving your right hand gently in the general direction of the poor inquistive sap who might care.
Better to be deported than executed.
Indeed, that's the buzz.
Testing....One two three....Testing!
They're just checking out the system that's all.
