(MONONGAHELA, August 9) -- Washington County Commissioner and Pennsylvania 12th district Republican Congressional nominee Diana Irey -- continuing her focus on Jack Murtha's stated desire for Israel to lay down its arms and stop defending itself against attacks from Marine-murdering Hezbollah terrorists in southern Lebanon -- today released the following statement:

"One week ago, Jack Murtha said he wanted an immediate cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah. He has said nothing since then to indicate he has rethought his position.

"So I have a question for him today: Jack, isn't it enough that you're demanding an AMERICAN surrender to terrorists in the Middle East? Must you demand an ISRAELI surrender, too?

"Because make no mistake about it -- in calling for Israel to lay down its arms, you are asking a trusted ally to acknowledge defeat at the hands of Iran.

"If Israel lays down its arms before it has completed its mission of securing its northern border against the Iranian-financed, Iranian-trained, and Iranian-equipped terrorists of Hezbollah, Israel will have just lost a war to a nation whose radical leaders have sworn to eliminate it from the face of the earth.

"Iran will have accomplished this mission by using a group of terrorists who are responsible for killing more Americans than any terrorist organization other than al-Qaeda.

"And it will have accomplished its mission largely because political actors far from the violence have pressured the Israeli Government into acting against the best interests of its people.

"Israel has been under attack from the terrorists of Hezbollah for a quarter century now. The Israeli Government -- the longest-standing democracy in the Middle East, and an American ally of long standing -- has every right to protect its citizens from the thugs who seek its destruction.

"And you, Jack, should know better."
