That stat does not have much relevance. If opinion is very anti Iraq and pro cut and run in Connecticut in November, Lamont will win, unless, as is possible, he demonstrates that he is an irritating personality wrapped in an empty suit, Iraq to the contrary notwithstanding. No I don't mean irritating to Freepers, I mean irritating to independents in Connecticut.

Lamont will get no Republican votes while Lieberman will get 15-20% keeping him in office but as an Independent pushing the Rats one step further from holding any chairman seats.

Republicans could not vote in the primary because Connecticut has closed primaries. They will be able to vote for him in November and many will because the Republican candidate is weak and has some ethical problems.
