“How then can one confront such an enemy, with such a view of life and death?”

Only one way, kill him before he can kill you.

Christianity teaches that Christ died for his followers but Allah demands that his followers die for him, and and millions of them have seemed quite willing to oblige him over the last 13 centuries. Islam offers so little in this life that it's believers must feel that they are better off to just die and go on to the paradise they are promised. But the catch for all Muslims is that they can't know if they are good enough as Muslims to go to paradise unless they die as martyrs. Martyrs who die for Allah's glory are the only ones who are guaranteed a place in paradise, all other Muslims just have to do all that they can to please Allah in this life and hope he will be merciful to them in the next. That kind of cockeyed theology is what makes Muslims such dangerous enemies, they actually want to die in battle for their moon god deity.

The nutjob in Tehran probably believes that he will be awarded a spectacular position in paradise if he can take out millions of hated Jews and citizens of the Great Satan with his nukes, and that kind of thinking makes the MAD concept that kept the US and the USSR from nuclear war worthless in this present situation.

The alternative, Lewis concludes, is for Muslims to "abandon grievance and victimhood, settle their differences, and join their talents, energies and resources in a common endeavor" to again make the region "a major center of civilization."

Therein lies the key to a successful outcome, but I no longer know how we get there from here.

It seems to me that they have but one more opportunity to correct their destiny, and it does not appear that they are taking it.

I believe we should act before Iran gets it's Nuke program in order. It will not be long........ Months! Not Years.

Satan is who I see when I look at Ahmadinajad (sp). I know the anti-Christ is supposed to come to the attention of the world as a uniter but if this guy isn't Satan he is from Satan. I get the creeps just looking at him.

Great comments. I fear that again, only the USA, Israel and perhaps the UK will have the far-sight to take appropriate action. The left thinks that containment or MAD will deter aggression. Iran's sponsorship of terrorism is bad enough without adding nukes to the mix.
