The Los Angeles Times made quite a splash on Sunday with a lengthy article detailing how American troops allegedly committed atrocities during the Vietnam War 40 years ago. Left-wing bloggers swooned over Vietnam: The War Crimes Files. And no wonder.
The whopping 4,400-word piece, describing alleged atrocities as if they happened only yesterday, was not really about Vietnam: It was about Iraq.
Only the most obtuse reader could miss that. The authors slipped "Iraq" into the narrative after 400 words, with mentions of alleged atrocities and prisoner abuse there.
To date, conservative bloogers and readers have paid little attention to The War Crimes Files. Presumably, they glanced at it and quickly dismissed it as more agenda-driven reporting aimed at stopping Bushs War.
In their cursory look, however, those readers missed an intriguing element in the story and perhaps its most important element. The lead author, Nick Turse, is a...

I always look at the source of the news. If it's the LAT, NYT, WOPO, Time, Slate, etc. I don't bother reading it, as in this case.

You forgot to mention that he is a gay-rights activist, and rabidly anti-military.

Turse, based on his extremist leftist views and almost blind bias, seems to be best described as "self-marginalizing". This would relegate his conclusions to the fringe of credibility at the very best. More likely, he will go down with Ward Churchill and Noam Chomsky as a new member of the "Academic Incredibles". And they are not superheros.

My wife brought out local paper with this slime ball's story on the second page Sunday..Once I saw the article.I immediately threw it in the trash...Having served in Nam and knowing of the atrocities committed by the Viet Cong and NVA...Not to mention what happened in Laos and Cambodia. The killing fields caused by our cutting off support of the South Vietnamese...Plus not a peep when millions where killed
Now I see the reason for the story and the person behind it...I imagine every Left wing MSM newspaper was more than willing to print this garbage...I told my wife you can get the paper and take out the adds but please leave the rest of it in the trash...It makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up and not good on this ole vets heart...Coming back from Nam and then having to deal with the drug anti war hippys and the constant bashing of those of us who served..Reading this just really peeved me off..
.I am saving this story and going to write a letter to the editor..Asking why they would print a story like this from a person who praised the Columbine killers...Wonder if they will print it??????

I doubt they would print it. If I were you I'd call the editors directly and ream them up one side and down the other. We need to fight back in ways big and small, and hearing from angry vets is one good way to fight back.

Thank you for your service to our country. I know it must not have been easy coming back to the atmosphere in this country then prevalent but at least now we have alternative media.
I hope your letter to the editor gets printed but I have my doubts. We just have to wait for the LA times to fold and it will soon, I think.
I hope you include quotes from his article praising the Columbine killers. Not that anything is going to sink into their heads but cancelled subscriptions.
To: pissant
I may take your suggestion and do just that..The Bradenton Herald is just as left as the Sarasota Herald who is owned by the NYT...I still believe that I will try to get the letter to the editor printed..Last time before we moved here to Florida. I sent a letter to our local paper in Traverse City Mi..It concerned CCW issues..They changed my letter to read and support their logic or lack of it...The editor and I ended up in a screaming match and a invite to meet...
I was one of the lucky ones..I came home with only part of the problems many of my vet friends did..I have some problems associated with agent orange but the number of vets who have died as a result of it is staggering...I believed then in what I was doing and still do to this day...I had a problem with the politics and the way the war was executed but would still do it again...
My son recently came back from Iraq..He spent six months in Somalia and we did the same job only he was Army and I was Air force..No thanks needed as serving this Nation is a honor that is all that is necessary for me...I followed many in my family who served in WWII..This Country is well worth serving despite some who do earthing in their power to tear it down...It is so important this election that we get out and vote. To prevent the cut and run crowd who will put us in a very dangerous situation as far as our security is concerned...Wes

Right, and I think that goes to at least one of the authors points, which is what on earth is a mainstream newspaper like the LA Times doing hiring.....
...oh wait, nevermind -- I answered my own question.

bloogers...
Ooops. I am not the author, but I was the editor. I caught a dozen things, but missed that.
I swear I've lost 20 IQ points since our baby was born.
Thanks for the catch!

And to think, the LAT pays good money for this poor excuse of a writer. It's laughable. What a joke for a news organization.
Do you think they'd ever write about islamofascism? Naaahhhh.

As it turns out it is the Sarasota Newspaper that published this article...The individual who put this particular article in this newspaper. Is not in till this afternoon..I reamed the other paper here in Bradenton out till the lady informed me it was not them..LOL...They needed it anyway...I did not really look much at which paper it was my wife picked up as to me both are one in the same...Well this afternoon this newspaper will get reamed and then a letter to the editor to let the readers know the type of individuals that they use for these stories..

That's great!
Since I am not a bible scholar, and since politics didn't have those terms 3000 years ago, I am wondering... what was meant there? I am genuinely curious now. Was the future foreseen, or did it mean something else?
