Air America losing altitude in New York

NEW YORK, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- The liberal radio network Air America is moving to a weaker AM signal in New York due to down ratings and shaky finances, the New York Post reported.

The talk radio network failed to renew its two-year lease with the owners of WLIB (1190 AM), forcing left-wingers such as Al Franken to broadcast from WWRL (1600 AM) -- which has a weaker signal -- beginning Sept. 1, the newspaper said.

"Air America" executives had previously run into trouble at WLIB after the station's owners -- Pierre Sutton and his father, former Manhattan Borough President Percy Sutton -- discovered the network's financial situation.

Negative publicity involving loans from a Bronx charity to Air America when the network was starting up, helped make the relationship between the two sides more precarious, the newspaper said.

WLIB may be leased next month to Clear Channel's Randy Michaels, who has reportedly shown interest in originating a talk-show network from the station.

I turned on their old station and thought they returned to our area, only ten times more interesting. I then scanned for other stations and found out that band on my car radio had burned out, and it was only static.

They could save money by mailing cassette tapes of the show to everyone in their audience.

They aren't even going to get the drive time hours at their new station. It's going with local programming. Also it appears that the Jerry Springer radio show isn't moving with them.

"If Freepers didn't talk about them, no one would be talking about them."

The DUmmies rarely discuss Air America's ratings or financial condition but they do discuss the daily programming. The few times in the past year that I have seen the ratings and finances mentioned about the only thing they could do was complain how unfair it was because conservative talk radio had a head start on them or how talk radio listeners were just stupid and not enlightened like them. LOL! It is as if they are simply putting thier fingers in their ears and shouting LA,LA,LA,LA,LA,..... and waiting for the next misguided millionaire to bail it out.

They have a presence here in the Twin Cities, but if I drive fast enough, I can out-run their signal.

Here in Dallas, well, they don't have it here in Dallas.

In the El Paso area Air America is on 1650.

Nice thing is that most radios cannot pick up this frequency :-)

I listen once in awhile for comic relief...it's like a Scrappleface radio station...so looney you can't believe it's not a joke..

During one exchange, Boortz said he would send $5000 to Air America if he had ever called all muslims, ragheads.
Anything new on this?
He should have challenged her that if she was wrong (like there is a chance of that ever happening), she would have to send $5000 to the RNC.

The loyal listeners say "Its a plot by WLW to drive Air America off the air". I can't stand Rhodes voice and accent. I was surprised by how she looks halfway normal. I really expected her persona to be a homely, hairy legged man hater...
