Lieberman: Lamont doesn't understand terror threat

WATERBURY, Connecticut (AP) -- Sen. Joe Lieberman set out on his go-it-alone re-election campaign Thursday and seized on the terror arrests in Britain to argue that his Democratic opponent, Ned Lamont, does not fully understand the danger facing the nation.

Lieberman's stop in Waterbury was his first public event since losing Tuesday's Democratic primary, dismissing his campaign staff and launching his independent bid.

He seized on the terror plot in Britain to criticize Lamont's opposition to the war in Iraq.

"I'm worried that too many people, both in politics and out, don't appreciate the seriousness of the threat to American security and the evil of the enemy that faces us -- more evil or as evil as Nazism and probably more dangerous than the Soviet communists we fought during the long Cold War," Lieberman said.

"If we just pick up like Ned Lamont wants us to do, get out by a date certain, it will be taken as a tremendous victory by the same people who wanted to blow up these planes in this plot hatched in England. It will strengthen them and they will strike again."

If Lieberman has nothing else going for him from a conservative perspective, at least he's right on this.

When you said "Aunt Esther", I didn't immediately pick up on the Fred Sanford "you-big-dummy" reference. Instead, I was thinking of "I-need-a-job-Cynthia-McKinney".

lol...of course, I'd bet that Cynthia & Aunt Esther were separated at birth...

That's right. Why, just today, Senator Lurch intoned that because we connected the dots for once, that's "proof" that our resources are distracted in Iraq & Afghanistan.

Can't argue with dhimmocratic "logic" like that...

And, since I've obviously passed the silly rabbit stage, I think I'll take myself to shower and to bed.

Night all.

I wish they'd used a blunt instrument to separate them.

For the trillionth time, Joe LIEberman is NOT an "honorable guy"! He's now even backtracking and making anti noises against the WOT and us being in Iraq.

Too bad there isn't a single Republican candidate or officeholder in New England who is a conservative....except Rep. King.

Just look at what happens when a Connecticut GOP family moves to Texas!

Your point? Are you trying to say that America is better off with a LaMont or do you know of a conservative with a good chance of winning the seat? I mean, they're both democrats so what are you saying? We should pull out of Iraq?

And in order to win the election in November, that "conscience of the Senate", that "honorable man" that far too many uneducated FREEPERS are supporting, now wants us to leave Iraq.......NOW.

I'm saying that FREEPERS, who know less than nothing and/or have forgotten EVERYTHING they ever knew about LIEberman, need to stop posting how wonderful he is.

The GOP candidate is worse than flawed, a GREENIE has now entered the race, and LIEberman will probably win in this now four way race; but he is an unprincipled, faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar lefty, who is even now changing his opinion on the WOT and Iraq.

And NO, I am NOT a "cut & run" person.

Though I'm no big fan of neither of them, Given his reputation and history in the WOT I would atleast listen to what Lieberman has to say. Perhaps he feels like Im beginning to feel. Too many of our soldiers are thinking twice or three or four times before defending themselves in fear that they may be charged with murder by our own PC government. If we're not going to fight and win so that we can deal with Syria and Iran, I also say BRING EM HOME!

I support our troops but NOT with their hands tied.

That's wrong

Lamont doesn't understand the terrorist threat nor do any of his followers.

I'm changing my opinion Iraq. It's being fought too PC. We either let our soldiers do their job without the fears of being sued by the terrorists or charged with murder by our own government or we should leave.

I'm no fan of Joe Lieberman but I certainly prefer him over the other guy when it comes to the WOT.

It's a choice between the Patriot Act or no patriot act. I dont think it's very honorable if Lieberman is out there now saying we should leave Iraq simply because his opponent won by saying that but I do know Lieberman's reputation on the WOT and I know it's better than the other guy.

I hope the states republicans really rally behind him

Actually, I hope the states republicans rally behind the republican candidate and let the rats split their vote between Lieberman and Lamont.

It's always best to increase the count of republicans in the senate whenever possible.

I never said he was wonderful, honorable, or in any way a senatorial conscience. I find him to be a slimy, opportunistic liberal (but I repeat myself) who happens to be less offensive on national security than the rest of his moonbat party. That said, he'll probably win no matter what we think.
