National Rifle Association Endorses Sharron Angle NRA Joins Fiscal Conservatives and Pro-Family Groups in Backing the only Conservative Candidate in the Second District Race for Congress

Reno, NV – The National Rifle Association (NRA) officially endorsed Sharron Angle (R-Reno) in her bid for Congress. In a statement issued today, the NRA urged its members and other Nevada gun owners and sportsmen in the second congressional district to vote for Angle in the upcoming August 15 primary race.

“On behalf of the National Rifle Association members in Nevada, the NRA Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is proud to endorse your candidacy in the 2006 Republican primary election in Nevada’s second congressional district,” said Charles Cunningham, NRA Director of Federal Affairs, in a letter to Angle.

The NRA, a major political force with nearly three million members, is widely recognized as America's foremost defender of Second Amendment rights, promoting firearm safety and the safeguarding of hunting and personal protection firearm rights.

“I am delighted to have the NRA’s support in this election, and am honored that they have recognized my strong and long standing commitment to protecting 2nd Amendment freedoms and the Constitutional rights of all Americans,” said Angle.

In their endorsement letter, the NRA cited Angle’s “proven and solid commitment” in defending Second Amendment rights, and praised her recent role in blocking a fee hike that was critical in “ensuring that law-abiding citizens would not be taxed for exercising their right to buy a firearm.” That statement was in regard to Angle’s leading role in stopping a hefty fee increase that would have affected nearly 15,000 law-abiding Nevadans.

The NRA endorsement adds to a consistent string of conservative endorsements that are backing Angle for the congressional seat being vacated by Jim Gibbons. Those endorsements include the House Conservatives Fund, National Conservative Campaign Fund, National Right To Life Committee, Conservative Victory Fund, Nevada Concerned Citizens, Club For Growth, Campaign for Working Families, Madison Project, Susan B. Anthony List, Concerned Women PAC, Republican National Coalition for Life, to name a few.

Angle concluded, “The fact that the NRA has now joined the premier fiscal conservative and pro-family organizations, as well as over 100 conservative members of Congress in backing my campaign should leave no doubt in the minds of Second District Republicans about who the only conservative candidate in this race is.”

This decision was made by NRA in Virginia.

It seems Dawn Gibbons put her name on (or allowed it to be put on by assemblywoman Segerbloom, as Dawn states in her defense) a bill that would have had the effect of registering Nevada gun owners, while subjecting them to another RKBA tax in the process.

This error gave Sharon Angle the edge needed to gain the NRA endorsement.

Slightly off topic but interesting. Doctors versus Guns

Doctors:

a.. The number of doctors in the U.S. is 700,000.

b.. Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year are 120,000.

c.. Accidental deaths per physician is 17.14%.

Statistics: courtesy of the U.S.Dept of Health & Human Services

Guns:

d.. The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000 (yes! that's 80 million).

e.. The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.

f.. The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.001875%.

Statistics: courtesy of the FBI

So statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

Remember, guns don't kill people, doctors do.

FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR. g..

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!!!

Out of concern for the public at large, I have withheld statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention............

Voted today, voted for Jim, but not for Dawn!

Jim is SOLID on the RKBA issues, very good on Nevada lands, and standing up Gubermint Goons too.

Sorry, guys. Jimbo is a RINO, and Harry Reid's best buddy. He selfishly refused to run for the Senate as the ONLY high-profile Republican in a position to knock off Reid. I wouldn't vote for him for dogcatcher. Bob Beers is the only acceptable candidate for Governor, followed by the Asian pornstar, Gibbons is dirt.

Jim Gibbons told me the reason he did run against Ried was that he couldn't raise enough money in time.

Is there any good conservative voter guide out there?

Sharon Angle also got the endorsement of the Club for Growth, and will probably get the endorsement of Right to Life if she hasn't already (her opponents are both pro-abortion IIRC). Angle is a 100% conservative and the clear choice for one of the most Republican districts in the West.

Well said, DJ. And the same thing applies to Dean Heller, who is also running against Sharon Angle in the primary. He could have made a credible run against Reid in 2004.

I fairness to Gibbons and Heller (they don't deserve support, but all are entitled to fairness), the state's gaming establishment rallied around Reid early on, and both state parties are beholden to one degree or another to the gaming establishment.

Thanks for the ping.

The NRA does get it right from time to time. I'm not a member, but that's more because I disagree with them on the broader strategic issues. They are on the same pro-gun team, and I'm glad to see when they're successful.

Interestingly, the NRA has endorsed many pro-gun Democrats.

Couldn't raise money in time ? That seems like a flimsy excuse. Anyone could tell (as soon as Ensign narrowly failed to unseat Reid) that Gibbons was the only one who was up to the challenge of taking out Reid in 2004, and he had 6 years to raise the $$. Nope, he put his own selfish desires of wanting the Governorship when he was NEEDED to take out Reid, a far more important target, especially now. Interesting that he could raise the funds for a race he coveted and was "unable to" for one he NEEDED to run for.

Shame more of them couldn't be NRA members (only 3 million)
