New details emerge in airline terror plot

Investigators around the world are in the process of tracking suspects and working to fill in details about the plot to blow up 10 U.S.-bound flights.
We have learned that one of the suspects arrested by British authorities in the airline terror plot has just been released. Scotland Yard has not given any further details on which suspect or why they were let go.
The material is called acetone peroxide - a deadly explosive. It is believed each terrorist would bring ingredients on board, and assemble them while on the plane.
Then someone would use a spark from a disposable camera's flash as the detonator. Law enforcement officials say they are fighting a losing battle as long as the hunt is for a bomb not the bomber.

"Law enforcement officials say they are fighting a losing battle as long as the hunt is for a bomb not the bomber. " I couldn't agree with them more!
To: FairOpinion
Acetone peroxide is so lethal it is appropriately called MOTHER of SATAN.

ACETONE PEROXIDE EXPLOSIVE
Acetone peroxide is a primary explosive that can be made from hair bleach (hydrogen peroxide), acetone, and sulfuric acid. This explosive is to be used in the fabrication of detonators.
Good Lord in Heaven, a quick google search gives plenty of sites on how to manufacture an explosive from this stuff and how to make the acetone peroxide in the first place.

Maybe they do not wish to lock themselves into only one explosive. This one is said to be easily concocted and like recipes for meth, explosives can likely be made from household and commercial use products.

If you were a screener, and if you have a choice of searching this guy, an 80-year old GrandMother or a middle aged business traveler, which one should you search?
US Answer: the GrandMother, of course, because instead of looking for suspicious passengers they use random selection, and she was the one who came up for random search.

Goes to prove that racial profiling is not going to work.
They will find a way around it and recruit non-arabs into the death cult. California has produced two so far afterall.

Absolutely agree with you both. If the "profilees" don't like it....profile 'em even harder. If you or I were living in another country and so-called Christians were wreaking terror on that country....we would expect to be profiled at airports, etc.

What was the explosive that was successfully used in the in flight run-up test on an aircraft in the Bojinka case back in what, 1994 or 5? The perp went into the john to assemble his device.

It was the Philippine Airlines Flight 434 on a Manila to Narita route. Yousef carried the components of his bomb on him, including nitroglycerin hidden in a bottle of contact lens solution and bomb stabilizers disguised as cotton balls. In the hollowed-out heels of his shoes, Yousef hid batteries.

Good Lord in Heaven, a quick google search gives plenty of sites on how to manufacture an explosive from this stuff and how to make the acetone peroxide in the first place. A lot of these sites are derivatives of the old "Anarchists' Cookbook" and other such nonsense. A good proportion of the material is simply wrong. Some of the rest is so dangerous and stupid that one does not have to worry, because anyone attempting the recipes will not survive to hurt anyone else.
The Kewl BoMZ kids will eventually solve the problem when the ISP's who host the sites are sued into oblivion by bereaved parents.
Read the newsgroup alt.engineering.explosives sometime for a horrifying example of irresponsible misinformation and technical incompetence by people who never passed High School Chemistry.

My Russian wife immigrated to America in 2001. She looks exactly like one would expect from a child psychologist, and nothing like a Muslim. Many times I felt like crying after seeing her go through 4 or more searches at the airport prior to boarding a plane, while Muslim men are waved through the system. In early 2005 she was naturalized as an American citizen, and now travels on an American passport. Since that time they never hassle her at the check in or boarding.

Good Lord in Heaven, a quick google search gives plenty of sites on how to manufacture an explosive from this stuaff and how to make the acetone peroxide in the first place. Any halfway committed extremist can get his hands on AQ training manuals that walk you through exactly how to do it. The reality is the internet has made it possible for anyone to be a terrorist. All you need are a few guys who believe in the cause, a little money to invest, and a little prep time. With the refining of the terrorist model over the last few years, it's possible to go from zero to jihad in six months.
Google hints at what's out there, but there's far, far worse.

We need to boycot google. There's no point. That information is all over the internet. Even hardcore jihadist websites are only a few clicks away. Many mosques will have one or two guys that 'know people', and can point you in the direction of some very explicit and informative websites.

Why!!!! That's .... profiling!!!!
We can't have that!!! The PC crowd would go into meltdown.
We have to keep searching Scandinavian Methodists and shady-looking Southern Baptists and those shifty-looking Mormons.
[/s]
===
Even if the Islamic terrorists fail in their mission to blow something up, look at what they succeed in accomplishing: TSA is in panic mode, every passenger of every airline has additional security to undergo, security measures are beefed up. The result: inconvenience and cost in $$$$$$$$$$. Who won this round and who lost?
Law enforcement officials say they are fighting a losing battle as long as the hunt is for a bomb not the bomber.
We are still not addressing the real problem. Unless and until we do, the Islamic terrorists continue to mount up little wins here and there. Look at the Israeli white flag being waved in the UN this morning. Who won there? It sure wasn't Israel.

My 70YO Mother was pulled aside and systematically searched on a recent trip. Partially disabled and in pain, she was escorted aside and scanned by airport security, despite explicit papers denoting her condition.
I question of the competence of the authorities who make policy that brutally harasses our most gentle and loving of our nation while catering to murderous Islamofascists. They are as much an enemy as the fascists themselves.

Last week while returning home from a business trip, I personally saw TSA hassle at least ten different, obviously very elderly people, several in wheel chairs or with walkers, just for the sake of random selection or whatever. It was humiliating for those folks, and a couple of them literally stumbled or fell through the security check point, while everyone else in the security line glared at the YSA guys for being so stupid. It really was pathetic and I'm still mad about it...!
