No. Florida GOPers need to support someone who actually has a chance to beat Nelson. My understanding is that Harris first has to win a primary that hasn't yet taken place.

Don't worry - the media is just oversampling Dems in their continuing effort to sabotage Harris. That they had to oversample by 40% just shows how desparate they are; Harris must really be dominating.

KH is an impressive woman, but the U.S. Senate is out of her reach for now. She should stay in the Congress a few more terms.

She can't. She had to give up running for her House seat in order to run for the Senate.

She's done.

"Nelson 60% Harris 25%"

But there are still some 15% uncommitted, leaving some room to work here.

The thing about polls some two-and-a-half months out, is that they are carved in very soft stone indeed. While it looks like Katherine Harris has a commanding lead in the primary, even considering the lack of encouragement she has had from Republican leadership in Florida, part of what happens is that the earlier isolation will melt away, should our own Snow White manage to make a decent margin over her GOP rivals. If one studies her campaign up to now, she has purposely run ONLY against Bill Nelson, with practically no reference to competing Republican contenders.

Considering the number of "tell-all" former campaign workers who have carried stories of a campaign in disarray, these ought to be taken with a grain of salt, as some of them are disinformation deliberately spread to aid in the campaigns of rivals. By all reports, Katherine Harris has performed ably and well representing her Congressional district in the US Congress.

Is she a hard person to work for? That is a matter of conjecture, depending on who is doing the working. Or not working. Is she in any way an incompetent or stupid person? Not by any objective standards, as she is remarkably well-informed, and has been a most exemplary Representative, staying in touch in her home district and making sure her vote gets counted on the floor.

Does she draw the fire of Dem'crats? You bet. But there is a certain core of voters, and activists that work among those voters, who would not vote for Katherine Harris for ANYTHING, because the thought of the 2000 election results in Florida still rankles.

THAT ELECTION STILL STANDS AS LEGAL! Despite the challenges thrown up at the time, the state government, and Ms. Harris as a constitutional officer of that government, were bound by the existing laws, and could only act within them, in spite of what a wrong-headed court ruling said. Because the Florida Supreme Court never declared the way the law was applied in error, only the outcome of that application, which they did not agree with. The first findings of the Florida Supreme Court were plainly in conflict with all legal precedent and the clear letter of the law.

Possibly the most inept campaign in Florida history. The campaign should have been about Nelson, but KH let the media and the RATs make it about her. Meanwhile, Nelson keeps a low profile, conserves his campaign funds and gets ready to trounce the GOP nominee. Tommy Franks would have been a great candidate and would have handed Nelson his ass.

Dave Leip's Atlas is in error. This was not a Survey USA poll, but rather a bipartisan poll commissioned by the St. Pete Times to be conducted by Schroth Eldon & Associates (D) and The Polling Company (R).

The 47% undecided figure in the GOP primary poll result is interesting. Harris has 28%, and the rest have about the same. Some might suggest that the natives are restless.

Rumor has it that after the primary, Republicans will beg KH (if she wins) to drop out and have Tom Gallagher replace her on the ballot.

Alan Bense won't because he's about to become Crist's running mate.

I now think the odds are quite good that Harris won't win the primary. I doubt most of the undecideds are debating between Harris and someone else. I think what most of them are undecided about is which current unknown to vote for instead of Harris.

Ya, I guess that wasn't the most compelling insight. :)

So, do you think Florida can become competitive if, say, McBride wins the nomination? I rather doubt it myself, simply because of how late in the game it will be for him to raise the needed millions. Nelson had $12,080,228 CoH as of June 30 versus just $212,699 CoH for McBride. Harris was reporting $2,628,781 CoH but I think that was before her interior decorating spree.

There is still a chance to win this Senate Race. That answer is McBride. He is the only chance we have of winning this race. So on Sept 5th Florida Republicans go out and vote for Will McBride if you want any chance of beating Nelson. Yes it will still be a tough race bet we do have a better chance of winning if McBride is the nominee.

http://www.mcbrideforsenate.com/

We all know that Harris has no chance of winning. She can not even poll well among Republicans. A candidate as well known as her and supposedly well liked by everyone in the party can not even poll above 50% among Republicans. This poll has her at 28% and one done in late July only had her at 45%.

There are enough idiots our there who always comment on Calif without ever having been here or know jack sh** except for what they read in the news and then generalize to the entire state....I did neither...I commented on the fact that her campaign has been miserable.....look around, am I the only one writing that.....hell no,....there are enough "in staters" that do that well enough.....so go peddle your moronic, juvenile name calling B.S. somewhere else......or perhaps you work for KH and are just falling in line with that intellectual discourse......

Yeah whatever. If Harris would have attacked the media, you bashers would have said Harris was being desperate and not focused on the issues.

If you guys don't like Harris, then take her out in the primary. THAT'S WHAT PRIMARIES ARE FOR. Support the three jokers who filed at the last minute running against her and stop bitching, since you people hate Harris so much.

Harris is getting the Lieberman treatment from the RNC and conservatives. It's BS what's happening to her.

Why do people dislike Harris so much? The woman has won all of her elections, she's a rock-ribbed conservative and she's a sitting Congresswoman. Her opponents who filed at the last minute to run against Harris? One is a 71-year-old former Democrat. The other one is a 62-year-old lifelong bureaucrat. The 3rd one is a 33-year-old attorney with ZERO political experience. I mean, voters couldn't tell the difference between him or the other McBride who lost to Jeb in 2002. C'mon now!
