Tuscola County prosecutors filed terrorism-related charges Saturday against three men who they say bought dozens of cell phones Friday in Caro in a globally coordinated plot involving the Mackinac Bridge.

They charged brothers Adham Abdelhamid Othman, 21, and Louai Abdelhamied Othman, 23, along with their cousin, Maruan Awad Muhareb, 18, with identical counts of collecting material to support terrorist acts and surveillance of a vulnerable target with intent to committ terrorism.

Hello,

I have spent much time thinking about the question of targets. Of course, bridges would be big, malls, bus and train stations as well.

The one target I keep coming back to is schools. I imagine that the fact my son's 1st day of school is the 22nd has alot to do with my "gut feeling", but we know they are more than willing (happy in fact) to kill children.

Praying I am wrong, MOgirl

I've lived here for 30+ years, and that would have been one helluva feat had they pulled it off. Makes me wonder now if there is a target in every state.

So, were these sickos working with college students (dang, aren't they all) Osama Sabhi Abulhassan, 20, and Ali Houssaiky, 20, both homegrown terrorists of Dearborn, Mich who were also arrested for having $11k and buying up cell phones? Did ya'll see the thread about Osama whining back in January because other students were hassling him about his name? Poor widdle thing swore he didn't have any connection with OBL and just wanted to play b-ball and keep his GPA high. Between Michigan and Oklahoma homegrown college terrorist we don't need to import any more.

Yep, that would be the logical and optimum time to cause the most deaths and destruction.

Why the Mackinac bridge?

Having worked with demolitions for many years msny years I can tell you it would take far more than 10 tons of high explosives to bring down the Mackinac Bridge.

Reallly scary + depressing to think we are in fact relying more on Walmart clerks than on the freaking FBI for our national security.

The FBI can't be everywhere. There are nearly 300 million US citizens. Concerned citizens need to be vigilent and report suspicious activity. If there had been the same kind of wariness prior to 9-11, those attacks could have been thwarted. I don't think the strippers who danced for Atta and the other 9-11 terrorists would ignore the terrorist threats made by them nowadays.

You can walk under it, but if you look up there are brand new cameras and motion sensors, anyone who tried anything would be toast.

They have weapons attached? Seems like the people that attacked us last time did not worry about their pictures being taken.... They even died performing the deed. What kind of deterrent is a camera for a person willing to die?

Revealing my age, I recall childhood vacations to the Upper Penninsula when the bridge was under construction and the ferry would go past the pilings and construciton boats. I never had the opportunity to actually see the completed bridge, or drive across it, which I have always wanted to do. Photo is beautiful.

Glad you posted that link

That has definitely tweaked my curiosity. Those posts go back way before this was a hot story. The people talking among themselves had no reason to be making stuff up.

I wonder if at some point in the future, someone will be analyzing our posts, and commenting, "These guys were on to something".

I have a lot of questions about this, but no answers. So I pose the question to the "Internet".

We are changing the world, one post at a time.

Actually I disagree. We have ALL been reminded by our president and various LEO agencies that WE are the eyes and ears..these events if/when they occur- occur locally whether it's here in Florida where I live or in Michigan or Idaho. This enemy is clever, creative and always learning. We need to pay attention and notify authorities when we see something that..just doesn't...fit.

About 5 hours away.

That's practically next door by Texas standards.

I worked on building that bridge for three years. I was a field engineer on it and I know the structure well. I can not imagine how they would bring it down. Also, the Mackinac Bridge Authority is no doubt guarding it closely night and day and these jerks would never get close to it.

I think they were targeting the people during the Bridge Walk, not the bridge. Can anyone determine if there is significance to the date 09-04-06?

If they planned to use the same method as the London bombers (sports drinks, etc.), we should be extremely nervous since that type of bomb could conceivably be built at a football game- or even the Bridge Walk. Again, at the very least... 500 bombs killing 10 people would have a greater death toll than 911. And if this scenario is taking place in every state... God help us all.

Well, the #1 way of detonating IEDs in Iraq is with a cell phone wired into the detonator. And since the Treason Times announced that the NSA was listening in on calls going outside the country, what better way to call phone numbers that might be on the watch list than with a cell phone with no way to trace the call back...

That may be why they needed so many. There's no way to blow that bridge without serious bomb making power and know how, but how hard would it be to plant a few dozen IEDs on the bridge and cause a panic? Especially if it was packed with traffic and pedestrians? Even a few strategically placed VBIEDs with cell phone detonators would cause major chaos.

This stuff is a daily occurance in Iraq. IED expertise is common, and easy to teach. The real trick to plant them and escape. Still, even under the eye of surveillance cameras, terrorists have pulled off some pretty amazing stuff and managed to escape.

Beautiful bridge. Has the ACLU lawyer got them out on bail yet?
