Is Vets For The Truth the same group as the Swift Boat Veterans? No. But that didn't stop an article in Sunday's Los Angeles Times from trumpeting the erroneous headline: "'Swift Boat' Veterans Set Sights on Rep. Murtha."

Two years after a cadre of veterans helped sink the presidential campaign of Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.), they have found a new target in the old steel country of southwestern Pennsylvania: Democratic Rep. John P. Murtha.

In a fight that organizers say will feature rallies, TV ads and an aggressive Internet campaign, these activists are promising to make Murtha pay for his criticism of the Iraq war.

I really don't know anything about the Vets for the Truth. Is there any member of this group that was prominent in the Swift Boat Veterans?

There were two separate groups of veterans that were active in the 2004 election cycle.

1.) Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, or Swifties. These were the men who served on Swift Boats during the Vietnam War. They served with John Kerry and knew first-hand that Kerry was a fraud regarding his medals. One of the most prominent Swift Boat Veterans is John O'Neill. He and Jerome Corsi co-authored the best-seller, "Unfit for Command" about John Kerry's military hero fraud.

2.) Vietnam Vets for Truth (VVT). None of its members ever served on a swift boat in Vietnam. They served in other capacities. The most prominent member was/is CAPT. Larry Bailey. Bailey is a decorated Vietnam War veteran, a retired Navy SEAL Captain and former Commanding Officer of the Naval Special Warfare Center, where all Navy SEALS undergo basic and advanced training. Larry was President of Vietnam Vets for Truth, and organizer of the 2004 Kerry Lied Rally held on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. and organizer of the highly successful 2004 Operation Street Corner campaign against John Kerry.

In 2006 the Vietnam Vets for Truth (VVT) regrouped as a committee under Iowa Presidential Watch's '527' PAC. They were renamed Vets For The Truth (VFTT). CAPT Larry Bailey is once again President of this fine group of individuals.

In Leftie Land, slander, libel, aiding the enemy, undermining our troops in theatre, our Commander in Chief and our nation, is called critiscism. They are the West's version of Hezbollah and alQaeda with their little "roadside bombs" of accusations. They have absolutely no interest in, or respect for, the security of this nation much less its troops, and are in the minus column when it comes to citizens and veterans.

The folks in murtha's district would do well to realize that, like a cheating spouse, if he'll cheat on the Corps of all things, he'll certainly cheat elsewhere. I hope this message is pounded in that district. He has not simply besmirched or whored, but is prostituting the core of the Corps-it's spirit of Brotherhood.

The organizers stress that theirs is largely a local campaign. But they have linked with Bailey, who from his North Carolina home is reassembling members of the national team that took on Kerry, including a Web expert in Texas and a Georgia developer who is helping bankroll the "Boot Murtha" effort.

For fundraising help, Bailey also has joined with an Iowa political action committee — Iowa Presidential Watch — that touts its efforts to "hold accountable" Democratic presidential candidates.

And he has invited the participation of John O'Neill, the Houston lawyer who was a founder of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth group that ran ads questioning Kerry's military record in Vietnam.
