"Like a fool standing in a violent windstorm, I still yet try to keep the candle of Liberty burning..."

It is you that chooses to live where you live.

Your quote is appropriate...the first part, at least.

As I said, Freep has changed considerably since I was pro-active here in years past, but I wouldn't say for the better.

Mississippi Coast is rebuilding so fast that there is a labor shortage. Restaurants and businesses have to close early because they do not have enough workers.

Meanwhile, N.O. is talking about rebuilding.

I come here requesting help for a forgotten and devastated peoples at ground zero of one of the most horrific natural disasters in our nation's history from the Freep of old that I knew and had great respect and admiration for, and helped all I could when I was able, and what do I get?

I am in no way affected like these people are and am NOT requesting ANYTHING for myself, I am trying to help others.

I sure hope Mr Robinson and crew are proud how their realm has evolved...

I sure hope Mr Robinson and crew are proud how their realm has evolved..

You are outrageous, judgmental, condemnatory, irresponsible, and ungrateful.

Many here have sacrificed greatly for Louisiana -- and for other places. But you condemn us for not jumping to give more when you ask. You are a living example of how Federal assistance corrupts people and makes the improvident, self-indulgent beggar consider himself morally superior to the person who plans ahead, saves, and then gives what he can and more. Do you have any idea of how many charitable and tax dollars Louisiana has received from the rest of us? Can you reckon up the value of days and weeks of volunteer labor?

We have given, and despite the incredible effrontery of people like you telling us that we should do more, we WILL do more. As treacherous as the one who bites the hand that feeds him, is the one who looks down on his benefactor for not giving even more.

Grand Isle rebuilt before New Orleans. I bet Plaqumines and St Bernard will rebuild before New orleans.

The Gulf Coast, Grand Isle and Plaquemines can in NO way be compared to New Orleans in my opinion having first-hand knowledge of all. NOLA is just the epitome of political sewage if there ever has been one... Plaquemines is bad, but NOLA can't even be described compared to Plaq, St. B and the Gulf Coast.

I know you chemicalman have been around long enough that you may be aware of my efforts to fight corruption here, and if you only knew full well the threats and duress I have endured in my lone efforts in doing so also.

If you had been anywhere near a hurricane you would know what a jerk your "yawning" makes you appear.

I was 150 miles from home for a month and everywhere I went businesses were donating to Katrina victims from what they were selling. If you think you are chapped, how do you thinnk it feels to be an evacuee and are constantly being asked for donations to help another avacuee. Rita was the "forgotten" hurricane. We are about back to normal in my small town and just hope it never happens again and not because we haven't had attention from a single celebrity.

Frankly, most of us have given until it HURTS with regard to Katrina, the tsunami that killed roughly a quarter of a million people worldwide, earthquakes and other natural disasters that have occurred over the past few years. In fact, there was a horribly destructive tornado that devastated our area in Tennessee last year. Parts of Murfreesboro are still staggering with the rebuilding effort. People in general have risen to the challenge of helping in ALL these disasters in the BILLIONS as well as in physical and material efforts.

Specifically WHAT are you suggesting that we NEED to be doing EXACTLY with regard to fixing the mind-boggling destruction left by Katrina? It would help to be told something specific that is expected or wished since most of us on this thread cannot read minds - at least I do not have that gift. . and bear in mind, those victims of all the other apocalyptic disasters are in need of the same rebuilding and relief from this country and the world.

What are YOU personally doing to remedy the situation?

Part of the problem is Katrina veterans acting like they are the only folks to have ever encountered a hurricane.

I've been through 4 myself, and while they are no picnic---I don't recall any of my neighbors here in Florida stating the "someone needs to do something" line like it was somehow preventable.

I don't recall any looting either on the ones I went through (but Andrew back in '92 evidently had some)

Is this by chance just a Louisiana thing?
