In fairness to me, I didn't so much "submit" the article as say, "Would you at FPM like to take a look?" I figured I'd have a shot a proofing it if they said yes, but they just went right ahead. Note to self.

Not really. I submitted this as a "What do you think?" not as a final product. Usual protocol is, "We like it, and plan to run it next week," at which point you say, "Ok, I'll give it a proof and review it once."
