Concerning the Recent Hezbollah Victory
Oregon Magazine ^ | August 14, 2006 | Larry Leonard

August 14, 2006 -- From the Associated Press: BEIRUT, Lebanon Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah said Monday that his guerrillas achieved a "strategic, historic victory" against Israel - a declaration that prompted celebratory gunfire across the Lebanese capital.

Israel, to nobody's surprise, doesn't see it that way. Being a conservative, I am bound by a concept liberals deny exists. This concept is called "the truth." An historic perusal of the conservative memory covering recent Middle-East decades produces a mental pie of truth, each slice of which is an example of a time when a Jew said one thing and a Moslem said another -- and upon investigation it turned out that the Jew was describing reality and the Moslem was describing the same thing American liberals describe as a matter of course: a fairy tale.

Iran recently released a cartoon pictorial about the Holocaust. I haven't seen it. I don't need to see it. Iran recently said that the Holocaust never happened. Without seeing the new cartoon series, I know what it portrays, just as without seeing the film Syriana I knew what its message was simply by knowing who made the movie. American Hollywood liberals and God only knows what large percentage of Middle-East Moslems are natural allies if for no other reason than that they are professional liars...(snip)

History has a way of making fools out of most of us.

I guess the fact that they didn't die and can go on to live and fight another day is termed victory.

I'll say it again, if this is what winning a war against Israel looks like, I'd really hate to see what losing one would look like.

Beruit: Fireworks

Israel: Talk of the governments collapse

Its obvious who won this round... but it could be a very short interval between rounds.

Bottom line: Only another Crusade to rid the world of the so-called religion of Islam - the religion of the Children of Darkness -will solve the problems of the ME. Outlaw Islam. Convert them by the sword, as they have done since satan formed them. Enough of them already.

Yeah, no kiddin'. Like, the Israelis aren't the ones firing insanely inaccurate rockets into there own country on the odd chance that they'll hit a HezBozo.

It's unfoetunate, but that's the truth. The Israelis capitulated to the International Communities demands, and the Hezbollahs hopes. The Israelis may not have lost, but the Hezzies sure won by not getting their asses extinct.

"Its obvious who won this round..."

Really? The Democrats considered defeating one of their most prominent democratic senators and former vice-presidential candidate a "victory" too. But instead of fireworks, you had the Reverends Jackson and Sharpton flanking their victorious hero. Now tell me, do you consider them the winners? If the Hezbo's want to shoot fireworks from the ruins of a totally devastated southern Lebanon and call it a "victory", I wish them many more of the same type of victory. I'll even mail them the fireworks.

Well, let's see. Israel gave up and left without achieving any sort of victory. What's more, they gave up and left without even securing the release of their captured soldiers. Not only will Hezbollah be back and stronger than ever, they were never even dislodged. It's not the way I wanted things to turn out, (I was hoping for a wider war that might have put Iran and Syria in their places), but it is a victory for Hezbollah and all the world will see it that way.

The most interesting news right now concerns the actions of the government of Lebanon and what it is saying about sending troops into the south. Yesterday, they cancelled a cabinet meeting on the subject. Today they first said their troops would be at the Litani by Friday, and later they said by Wednesday. This indicates to me that the majority is probably asserting itself without the Hez ministers and is intent on asserting control. That is what both Israel and the US want it to do.

When one weighs the objectives of Israel going in against those accomplished, it's difficult for me to consider the outcome a victory. Further, a victory is when your enemy is crushed beyond recognition and is dead or pleading to surrender. When there is so much debate about who one, you haven't won.

Well, I saw an interesting analysis on Debka.

Iran was using the billion or so it had invested in southern Lebanon as a sword over Israel's head to prevent it from bombing the Iranian nuclear program. You bomb us...we turn the thousands of missiles we gave Hezbollah loose.

Now Hezbollah was forced to expend the missiles willy-nilly or loose them...and still lost a lot of them.

Iran's investment failed. Israel has no sword of Damocles hanging over its head now.....and come September or October....Israel can act on the nuclear issue.

Don't know how true it is, but its interesting.

I, on the other hand, would LOVE to see what it looks like.

What the Hezzies havn't thunk up yet..
This U.N fiasco will probably get BiBi elected.. and empowered..

THEN... the Hezzies are in deep doo-doo.. the U.N. will get exposed as worthless as usual.. and Damascus will become viable target.. a prime target.. without Syria, Iranian mullahs will be all bragadocio and beards.. isolated..

Then they will have to start blowing up American malls and football games.. which will surely UN-elect many democrats.. And make Dearborn Mich.. FBI Central..

If the Christians in Lebanon can't prevail what hope is there for the all-Muslim countries? I hope you are right in detecting something afoot there, but I'm pretty pessimistic tonight. Why is there no country in the West with gumption enough to WIN a war? Why are the ruthless barbarians allowed to run over the whole world unopposed?

I'm sorry. I seem to be in rant mode to night.
