Because We Don't Know, Jack ... *
August 15, 2006
Today's NBC "First Read" questioned the viability of Jack Murtha's 41-campaign "Cut and Run" Tour. Here's what NBC had to say:
As of today, Democratic Rep. John Murtha's supposed 41-candidate tour seems to be more myth than reality. Murtha communications director Megan Grote says of the previously reported number of 41 candidates or districts, "We don't know where that number came from." Per Grote, Murtha is planning to campaign for Democratic candidates, but the office doesn't yet know for whom or when. It could be around 40, she says, or it could be less. She notes that "plans have been changing," that "nothing is set in stone," and that it's all being done "last minute." Either way, Murtha won't be campaigning anytime soon -- Grote says he has nothing planned for the next two weeks. The Democratic House campaign committee says they have no knowledge of Murtha's campaign/travel schedule.
Murtha communications director Megan Grote says, "We don't know where that number came from."
Perhaps Ms. Grote should check to see if her office's subscription to The Hill newspaper has lapsed.
Here's an excerpt from an article entitled "To raise profile, Murtha will stump for 41 Dems," published in The Hill, a Capitol Hill newspaper, on July 26, 2006:
Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.), who has suspended his race to become majority leader in the event that the Democrats capture the House, plans to campaign in 41 races around the country where he said party leaders believe he can be helpful.
This is a dramatic increase in activity for Murtha, who did not campaign for House candidates in 2004, according to his spokeswoman.
Helping Democratic candidates could pay dividends in a race for majority leader against Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.).
Murtha says he thinks such a race is likely and told The Hill that if the election were held now Democrats would be catapulted into the majority.
"If it was today, we'd win 50 seats," he said, adding that Democratic strategists have assessed the field of competitive races in which they think he can help.
"In 41 seats they think I can help," he said. "They've got it narrowed."
Murtha said he plans to campaign in all of them. He also said, "I'm going to where Nancy sends me," referring to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
So the source of the number 41?
None other than Jack Murtha himself.
Note, too, please, that Ms. Grote is going to have a hard time getting away from this one -- because in the original article in The Hill, we read "This is a dramatic increase in activity for Murtha, who did not campaign for House candidates in 2004, ACCORDING TO HIS SPOKESWOMAN." (Emphasis added)
So, to review:
Jack Murtha tells The Hill that he's going to campaign in 41 races. His spokeswoman confirms that this is a dramatic increase over 2004, when he campaigned in precisely zero districts for other Democrats -- despite having NO Republican opponent. He even tells The Hill "I'm going to where Nancy sends me," referring to liberal San Francisco Democrat/House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. Diana Irey begins to whack him for abandoning his constituents in southwestern Pennsylvania in his attempt to curry favor with the liberal Democrats whose votes he'll need to become Majority Leader -- IF he wins reelection, and IF Democrats take control of the House.
And then his spokeswoman tells NBC News about the 41-campaign "Cut and Run" Tour, "We have no idea where that number came from."
Today's question for Jack Murtha:
Nah, this one's just too easy. No question today, Jack.
We're still laughing too hard to think of a good one.
*An ongoing investigation of Jack Murtha, brought to you by Diana Irey for Congress.
Paid for by Diana Irey for Congress
Go Diana! Keep up the great work!
Anyone wishing to be added to the IREY/Murtha ping list let me know!
Ping to Issue 10 of the "Because We Don't Know, Jack" series.
Xpert already posted
I vaguely remember something about Democrats beating up on a Republican many years ago for not being able to pin down the exact number of Communists in the State Department. Could this be what Murtha was actually referring to?
Disgusting! I don't think Murtha and his minders have any idea what it's like to be truthful, even the media is on to them.
Of course not.....they are democrats.
Thanks Star! ;*)
"Because We Don't Know, Jack ..."
I think the Donks are realizing that Murtha's brand of "Blame America First" is not going to help them in many competetive districts. I bet ol' Jack isn't invited campaign anywhere this Fall. Hopefully the voters of the 12th District will not invite him to go back to Washington in January, either.
Anti-Americanism is all the Democrats have. As the campaigns focus the issues, this will become clear to more and more voters.
I stand by my tagline. I may have to add an "at least"...
Yep... I'm goin' for it... "at least"
It fits doesn't it?
It is all I have heard, that's for sure!
I really like your taglines...both of them! ;*)
LOL! Perhaps! ;*)
Very appropriate cartoon for this thread. Thanks! ;*)
Hiya, Justa! Great blast by the Diana Irey campaign. It's important for voters to know that Murtha lies to promote himself. Just like this 41-city bullstuff, his slander of the Marines was always about his ambition to be a celebrity and a Nancy-boy in Congress. Once you undertand how low Murtha will sink, you start to really know Jack!
Yes, I really enjoy the "We Don't Know Jack" series.
Once you undertand how low Murtha will sink, you start to really know Jack!
That is an outstanding line!
Thanks for stopping by EGC! ;*)
Probably two things happened.
1. Murtha sobered up and realized that he was in a race with some heavy outside help for Irey.
2. The 41 Rat candidates sobered up and decided that Murtha might cost them votes as Murtha's walk through the park becomes an uphill battle because of his anti American lunancy.
2. The 41 Rat candidates sobered up and decided that Murtha might cost them votes
I think you nailed it Dave, along with his minder Pelosi waking up to those facts. :-)
Jack, listen to me! Don't make me scream at you on tv in your district.
Also, from another article:
Ireys move is not causing much concern in the Murtha camp, said Ed Mitchell, the congressmans campaign spokesman.
(Murtha) always won this area very significantly, and we feel hell do that again, Mitchell said.
My understanding is that he has not had a viable challenger in nearly 30 years.
Exactly, that's been said by several who live in the district. Hopefully both Murtha and Mitchell will maintain that feeling of invincibility right up to election day.
Wonder what caused this?
I suspect he knows he will be met by freepers and Vets For Truth every stop, even if it is in small numbers.
