A portrait of Jesus that has been at the center of a lawsuit for it's removal from a Bridgeport HS has been stolen.
Wow. Talk about bad karma...
Could this be classified as a 'hate' crime?
Bet not, since Christianity is involved,
and that doesn't count. Feh.
Some background, more to come.

Jesus....
A little more background

I guess it's time for a large scale protest with lots of killing and destruction of property?
Click on the WVMetroNews link at the top of the article for link to radio reports.
Sorry for the clumsy manner I've handled this post, but I'm still a bit new at it.
Roccus
The picture is in fact not missing. God knows right where it is.
Native West Virginian and former Harrison County resident bump! (How have you been Roccus?)

Hey Jaxter
I was supposed to be fishing today, but I had a bad night and didn't get to sleep till after four.
Strange how things work out, eh?
State-wide radio show is questioning wfetheer it is a prank. Not in a disrespectful way though.
Jesus was The Colonel?
I lived in Bridgeport from age 1 to age 6.
Did you go to Bridgeport HS?
How do they know it's not a picture of Judas? Or Mohammed, for that matter?
Not complaining, just seeking an explaination of why this was moved to chat. It is breaking news and I supplied a link.
No. I lived in Salem.
I've always felt it was a lost cause and that the portrait would eventually come down. Note, I'm not saying whether it should or not.
It's pretty safe to say it will be classified as larceny, unless the thief has 666 tattooed on his forehead.
Also the two FR links I refferenced were from News not General/Chat

It wasn't me, Man...I was busy listening to the White Album...it's all right in there!!!
I wonder if the thieves plan to hold it for ransom.
Switch heads and the ACLU would probably pay to wallpaper all the schools in the state with it.
Ya never know, The people of Harrison Co. had raised $150,000 in about two weeks to help battle the ACLU. That was a true grass roots effort.
This is a local interest story for which there is a topic (local) in the chat forum.
If you hadn't posted it to the breaking news sidebar, it might have stayed in the news forum. I'll restore it to news, but it hardly qualifies as breaking news on FreeRepublic
As I said, You Da Boss!
Thank you.
This Jesus picture is such a common mass printing, that it could be replaced since it was a gift to the school. (I think we have 2 of them of different sizes in our church building.)
That said, I think this school district faces an uphill battle keeping their picture on the wall.
The best argument to keep it is that of " the decoration of our building" has a plan, an administrator, and a variety of decorations. This is just one of them. To remove it is to arbitrarily censor religious expression while permitting all other forms of expression.
Someone REALLY doesn't want that picture on the wall. I hope they find it.
I 've said from the beginning that it was a done deal. The picture was comming down. Local folks wanted to fight it though and a Christian group who wants to take on the ACLU joined in. One guy on the school board was complaining about the $150,000 saying that it could be put better use to pay for teachers etc. The idiot overlooked the fact that the money was donated by citizens to wage this battle. Like any politician, he saw money and figgured it was his to do with as he pleased.
I think it's more that someone just wants this over with. The case has caused problems in the county.
Can we get Him to pose for another one?
If you've got the direct line, let me know what He says.
If you've got the direct line, let me know what He says.
I think Gamecock has custody of the secure line this week. :-)
I THOUGHT YOU HAD IT!?!
Oops!
BTW, didn't you have yourself airbrushed out of a picture with the Boss, and they airbrushed the wrong person out, and you got Him to pose for another one? Or am I thinking of something else?
I said to the curator, "I'm the one. I'd like it back now."
It didn't work. :)
