Excerpt -

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran on Saturday launched a series of large-scale military exercises aimed at introducing the country's new defensive doctrine, state-run television reported.

The television report said the military exercise would occur in 14 of the country's 30 provinces and could last as long as five weeks.

The first stage of the maneuvers began with air strikes in the southeastern province of Sistan va Baluchistan, the report said.

The military exercise, involving 12 infantry regiments, is called "The Blow of Zolfaghar," in reference to a sword that belonged to Imam Ali, one of the most revered figures of Islam for Shiite Muslims. A majority of Iran's 70 million people are Shiite.

Don't forget these 2 points

a) MoHamHead in Iran stated August 22nd way back in Mid June for 'their response' to our demand to stop enrichment.

b) we know the Islamic religious significance of the date and how MoHamHead feels he is a prophet destined to bring about the return of the hidden imam (apocalyptic)

c) just this week Iran announces these military exercises to start the 19th and last 5 days. That is the last day falling on Aug 22nd

d) also this week: news reports of signs N.Korea is also preparing for a nuke test in the near future

e) In the past 2 weeks:
1) Foiled massive bombings in UK->US flights
2) SEVERAL more 'false alarm' (dry runs / diversion) reports on other airplanes
3) Busts of muslim men in America with thousands of cell phones
4) A scare or two at ports.

Sure is getting hot in here....

Oh yeah, can't forget the palistinians and hezbo's and their shanangans.

Oh yeah and the recent reports of Iranian military running around destroying Sattelite dishes and enforcing laws that were ignored for many years.

Such fine troops. Too bad that if they try and attack us they will be wiped out in greater numbers than the Iraqi Army.

The blow of Zolfaghar The name has another connotation:

The Order of Zolfaghar: Founded by Reza Shah on 11th August 1922 and modified on 10th April 1925. It was the highest order of Imperial Iranian Armed Forces, awarded for exceptional military services in foreign conflicts and/or extraordinary gallantry in battle.

They Mullahs must know about this order, so the question is if this military show is related to exceptional military services in foreign conflicts?

Interesting list of equipment. Other than the F14 Tomcats, every thing else is pretty much junk against our air power and I would bet that more than 2/3 of the Tomcats are in need of critical parts. They seem to be in worse shape the Saddam's air force before Desert Storm.

I think it's damn nice of the Iranians to show us their tactics and equipment, although they are using munitions they should keep for the real fight. I'm sure our satellites are picking up every movement...
