Tucson Police evacuated the Safeway store on Prince road and Campbell avenue for much of Saturday afternoon and into evening after an employee spotted a suspicious package.
According to police, an employee called police at about 2:14 p.m. Saturday afternoon after spotting a package below the customer service counter.
Sgt. Decio Hopffer said that when the bomb squad arrived and evacuated the store, "The bomb technician saw things in it that led them to believe that this was a live device and they had to take the necessary precautions to make sure no one was going to get hurt."
Hopffer would not elaborate on what exactly was in the plastic cylinder device but said it contained a cut PVC pipe.
"We found this to be a simulated device, it would not have gone off by itself," Hopffer said.
Authorities shut down traffic several times while the Tucson police bomb squad made three attempts to detonate the device.
Hopffer said the rounds included high velocity and water.
The Safeway store reopened late Saturday night after several bomb sniffing dogs combed the area and officers deemed it safe for business.
After similiar BS actions after 9/11, fake threats like this are handled as acts of terrorism due to the costs and impact of acts of BS like this.

It is a way to remotely open the device and disrupt the contents. There are several methods to do this.
I once hid a simulated bomb under a jeep at an MP check point. It had Chinese markings, explosive markings, and bomb written on it. They missed it.
It could have been there for a number of reasons. Just some kids playing games, someone trying to get revenge against the store because the store cheated or fired them, someone checking responses, someone trying to extort money from the store, or a typical liberal nutcase. However, it they get caught, the results will be the same. I think the fine is up to $20,000.00 plus a little time in jail.
The biggest issue was "What's a Simulated IED?" The next was the composition of the device "water?"
If Tues 22nd does happen, get your and Sue's butts down to the GC&N Complex. Plenty of water, food, guins and ammo there. many other Conservatives will be finding their way there, too. Bring what you can...
