"I voted 90 percent of the time with a majority of Democrats in the U.S. Senate," he said.
Yep, he's a liberal democrat. No doubt about that.
And Bush is supporting him against the GOP candidate?
I haven't read that the President has come out against the GOP candidate.
Maybe it is time for Rumsfeld to stop down. New ideas about Iraq couldn't hurt.
There really is no GOP candidate this time around. That guy who won the so-called primary has far too much bagage to make a mark.
New ideas about Iraq could come from any source to the president.
If the president likes them, he can tell Rumsfeld to implement them. After all, Rummie does work for the President and not vice versa.
Joe proved himself to have no principles when he decided to run with ManBearPig. This is just more evidence.
As much as I like the directness with which Rumseld speaks, and the way he challenges the media, I don't think we can ingore just how badly this entire mission in Iraq has been managed.
I don't call for Rumsfeld to resign (and no one in the world would care if I did), but I'm not particularly impressed with his stewardship of this war. I can't shake the memory of Rumsfeld claiming it was just a few "deadenders" we were facing in Iraq. As best I can tell, nearly every assumption Rumsfeld's defense department made as to how post-war Iraq would look has been utterly and completely wrong. It appears to me that both Bush and Rumsfeld fundamentally misread the Iraqi people and how they would respond to our attempts to give them democracy.
Sounds a lot like somebody who's running for re-election in Connecticut and wanted to do something to assure those voters that he's not George Bush's lap dog (like they should have thought so inthe first place).
Why would he say something like this when he is 20% ahead in the polls? That's just plain stupid.
LOL
LOL
The Connecticut state Republican Party is apparently not supporting the candidate.
I agree with you about their optimism concerning the war (Bush and Rummy together). The long history of Islamic fanaticism should have been a lesson for both of them. They have a principle that territory won is never given back.
Turkey was a, ah, turkey, too. That is part of the equation.
I read that he assured Lieberman there would be no support for the GOP candidate.
Lieberman should win or lose on his own, without presidential encouragment.
That about sums it up in a nutshell.
At least Lieberman is polite when he asks for Rumsfield to resign...
...which is a rare things with today's foaming-at-the-mouth, rabid Democrats.
Loyal little as*hole, isn't he.? What a little puke he is.
The reason the dems want Rumsfeld replaced is he does not take their crap - he speaks out. Just listen to his response to hillary's tirade a few wks ago. Oh yea, the media does not play that part just hillarys caustic remarks. Well, he laughed her out of the room. She certainly disappeared quickly
