Muslim doctor wants apology from U.S. airline [booted for praying]
CBC News ^ | 8/19/2006 | staff

A Winnipeg doctor is demanding an official apology and compensation from United Airlines after being kicked off a flight in the U.S. this week, an incident he has characterized as "institutionalized discrimination." Dr. Ahmed Farooq, a Muslim, was escorted off an airplane in Denver on Tuesday. According to Farooq, reciting his evening prayers was interpreted by one passenger as an activity that was suspicious.

"The whole situation is just really frustrating," Farooq said. "It makes you uneasy, because you realize you have to essentially watch every single thing you say and do, and it's worse for people who are of colour, who are identifiable as a minority."

Farooq said the allegation came from a passenger who appeared drunk and had previously threatened him during the trip.

Personally, I think this dude should place the blame for his treatment squarely on the shoulders of the Islamofascists who have brought us to this situation.

Work to fix the problem of islamofascist terrorism, Farooq. What a whiner. Have a pork rind and relax.

Gee, I could use some money. That's a great idea. Bring a copy of the Koran, moan and wail a bit and get kicked off the plane. File in court the next day.

Excellent point. Since he doesn't, it shows where his loyalty lies. Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Ahmed.

I know these folks pray a lot, but is it fair to ask them specifically what they are praying for?

I mean, if they are praying for my violent end, that certainly takes the 'shine' off of the dutiful prayers.

Private prayer always works best for me. I'm rarely thrown off a plane or anywhere else for that.

NO! You want to know what's frustrating? When WE have to watch everything YOU do. You and your fellow death cult members have made this bed, no lie in it. BTW, if someone were doing a Gregorian Chant I'm sure they'd have been asked to silence or leave.

Bottom line: This is your mess, so Farooq you.

Brandon Borrman of United Airlines told the Winnipeg Free Press this week that the airline is obliged to take any allegations threatening passenger safety seriously, particularly in the wake of last week's arrests in the alleged bomb plot on flights from Britain to the U.S.

"Whenever these types of claims are made we have a duty to investigate," Borrman said. "Our flight crews are trained to make safety the No. 1 priority."

I know these folks pray a lot, but is it fair to ask them specifically what they are praying for?

It is all excessive legalism, and they are a prisoner to it.

The 5 pillars of Islam dictate these legalistic Obsessive Compulsive Disorder-like rituals (pray 5 times a day, pilgrimage to Mecca, fasting, etc).

The "Sixth" pillar of Islam is Jihad, which is kind of a "Magic Bullet" ticket to heaven on the Expressway with E-Z Pass, or so they think.

None of this, of course, gets them into heaven or makes them right with God.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, if all he was doing is praying, well, I do that when I fly nearly every time I leave the ground.

OTOH, if he was putting down a prayer rug in the middle of the aisle and checking a GPS to make sure he was facing east, well, that's going to get other peoples' attention and the airlines can't take any chances. I'm sure if some Christian started walking up and down the aisle loudly quoting scripture from Revelations, the same thing might have happened.

It's too bad it happened to him, but if he has special needs at special times, he needs to work his travel schedule around that.

Actually, we need a lot more of this. Like the recent situation where most of the passengers got off or refused to board a flight with suspicious Muslim males on board, passengers need to take their security into their own hands and officials need to be forced to profile or be faced with empty airplanes.

I'm not a muslim. Therefore I'm not a terrorist. This guy was obviously a muslim and therefore a potential terrorist. He behaved in a provocative manner and got booted. Why would that possibly be a problem for anyone? What is he doing out of his 3rd world crap-hole anyway? Who invited him?

I think we all agree that the situation sucks. But the blame for it belongs on Islamic terrorists, not United Airlines. Farooq can't just blithely ignore the past weeks, months and years of our experience with Islamists and pretend we should all ignore it too.

There is a valid reason for suspicion of Muslim passengers. And it isn't religious bigotry.

A doctor I know around here who is from India is totally PO'd at the terrorists for making people who look like him automatically suspicious. I'll just say that there people from that area of the world who are reasonable about this and actually DO put the blame for this sort of thing where it belongs - around the necks of the Islamfascist murderers.

I live in Texas an I'm white. Which makes me a minority. Nobody hassles me when I pray. I pray silently. Here is one of my prayers:

Dear Lord, please make every mosque in the world be sucked down in to hell. Thank you...

Well look at the odds. The closest you can come in the last decade or two is Timothy McVeigh and he was no Christian. IRA has been quiet since before 9/11 so you're out of luck there.

Naughty muslims, on the other hand, seem to have trouble going two days in a row without starting some crap with someone. It's not my fault. If your a muslim, then work to fix your bonehead religion and stop whining.
