I'm surprised they hadn't thought of this earlier.

Amen.You're good.
I nominate you for High Priestess of the Church of the Painful Truth (stolen from Neal Boortz).

Don't you think this university's resources can be better spent?! No one needs a PHD or a laboratory to figure out that some people may be allergic to incense or candles. If they go to church, they deal with it in their own way. Sit in the back, etc. These scientists should discover something beyond common sense.

Sit in the back, etc. That's the way it started with smoking on airplanes.
My recollection is that the priest or altar boys start at the back and work their way to the altar with the incense.
Of course, the candle smoke is endemic.
Won't work.
And there are kids in there - infants being baptised.
Sorry, that's a non-starter.

What a load of bs. Less money to university, maybe MEANINGFUL research gets done.

He adds that he knows of no study examining whether groups such as priests and frequent churchgoers have elevated rates of cancer or other pollution-associated health problems." "Study finds more studies necessary."

As a former altrar boy let me just say that knowing what you are doing with the censor reduces the quantity of smoke so that it should not bother people. Of course sometimes we liked to see just how big of a cloud we could produce but that is another story.

While working in the field of environmental risk analysis, I was always silently amazed by those who would readily drive in bumper-to-bumper smog-filled traffic each morning and evening and could tear you limb for limb in a meeting on the health risks of the use of an EPA-approved pesticide in some remote rural area of Alabama, south Texas, etc.
Homo sapiens is undoubtedly one of the least responsible of all species. And now it seems to be losing its mind.

It would be up to each person effected to call the parish, etc. The more important issue is, why do these people make such big deals out of everything.
Maybe the scientist thinks the incense causes global warming. /sarc
