This issue really upsets you, doesn't it?
Because it is a fact they are. As will the next generation. And the next after that until it all falls down or American society agrees to a benign dictator to make the changes that will be required.
As long as you have we Boomers to blame, you can feel victimized and divert the energy it will take to fix the "system". I feel really sorry for y'all and my kids, grandkids and, Lord willing, their progeny.
Our "Republic" cannot sustain itself. That's the real bottom line. The people you would hang for being responsible for that will long be dead before you get your chance at justice. I surely don't feel guilty, however. I merely cast my vote on election day. Your "representatives" took it from there.
Any solutions come to mind, eh?
Wrong skippy, no pension involved at all, just working smart and making my money work for me. How are you doing? I suggest Real Estate, if you've got the nerve.
You sound just like a 60's style communist rabble-rouser. My fists are full of MY earnings, not yours.
Hey BB you whiny little kid...for fifteen years straight I paid off FICA by end Q1. No way I'm going to need whatever pennies you pay in. But, when the checks come I will use them...maybe for tango lessons.
My fists are full of MY earnings, not yours.
You need to look in the mirror to see the guy with the "touchy" problem. Blaming me and my generation isn't going to resolve your generations shortcomings.
Shitty, thanks to the no-fault divorce laws the 60's ushered in:
My mother left in the 70's to 'find herself' and took half my dad's assets and then my ex took half of mine....
I'll be dying at my desk if I can pry a management job from the dead fingers of a 60-something....
Real estate is now a bust--the boomer locusts are done 'flipping' and have moved on.
And don't call me f'in 'skippy' you patronizing ass: I'm almost 40 and have 16 years in the Army Guard along with an engineering degree and a job working for the Air Force!
No, I only provide for your prescription drugs, healthcare, retirement and the cost of gasoline provided by gen-x (and y) troops in the Gulf.
At least you could thank us: Besides all the financial benefits we provide you, we get your latte's, make your copies and will change your diaper when you grow old. Which you are--growing old....
The 'whiney kids' you are crapping on are almost 40 now.
The rates weren't as high as they are now--'cuz the boomers had less kids.
What are those shortcomings? Hmmmmm?
Raised largely by single parents: we are today's innovators, the soldiers, we are having more kids than the boomers and aborting less, we are saving more, we are paying more taxes, we are bearing the burden that you ignored. The combat leaders in the war on terror are gen-Xers.
We are fighting the boomer wars, while being protested and spat on by old boomers!
Blaming me and my generation isn't going to resolve your generations shortcomings.
Well, I am 50 and I think there is a good chance they will be changing your diaper before mine. I work for myself, I pay my own health insurance and I fund my own retirement plan. You are getting old just as fast as I am and if at age 40 you make a living serving latte, then the miserable future that lies ahead of you is nobodys fault but your own. BTW, thanks for the coffee.
I live off of the money I make working for myself. I am not of retirement age, I do not collect any kind of retirement money and I pay for my own private health insurance. If you drive a car on the public roads, you receive exactly the same government benefits I do. I am certain that you as a patent lawyer make far more money than I do. And yet you are compelled to blame me for all of your problems, real or perceived. That, IMHO, is your shortcoming.
I have NO dog in this fight. However, I recall a book called the "Fourth Generation" or something. Talks about how there are 4 generations of "types" of people. Due to learning from their parents' mistakes, rebellion, etc. the generations keep revolving.
It said how the generation "xers" are the next "greatest generation" - the "fourth generation" fought WWII, and the "xers" are similar to that group. Very driven, hard working, values oriented, etc. If the country is in good times these values will go to making money, etc. But, if like WWII something prompts their collective will - they will be the "greatest generation" similiar to that of WWII.
The book was written before 9/11. I think the courage and honor that many of our young folks have shown in Afghanistan and Iraq in serving their country certainly deserves MY respect as a baby-boomer.
Ya right...what a crazy thing to say. X'ers are about to begin the process of fixing up the mess that Baby Boomers have made of our beautiful country.
Truth be told, most Boomers are workaholics
You could be right about that. I am an Xer, but I can see boomers who do work well over the typical 8 hours a day. In the previous generation, they may have worked harder during those 8 hours physically, but today's workers are just working around the clock.
Seems like you and your dad made bad choices. And, you want to blame me for it. What else coiuld I call you but skippy?
btw...if no fault divorce laws of the sixties screwed your life up blame the politicians who made them...that would be the 'greatest generation' guys.
Also, my oldest is building his fortune in real estate and (this bit of advice is free) you don't do that by flipping....but you wouldn't know that.
Gen-X is subsidizing his retirement....
That remains to be seen. Personally, I think that there is a huge pension bust coming as companies (initially) and then the local, state, and (finally) Federal governments decide they can't pay promised benefits. While people may still technically get pensions, it will be pennies on the dollar and almost no additional benefits.
I watched my Father's company incrementally strip him of his retirement benefits. The company also went through the step of forming a sham "association of retired employees" who trumpeted each reduction in benefits as a victory for the retirees. What a crock.
How we will pay for SS and Medicare is still an open question. It will be very hard to pull the same thing here--as the constituency is just too large. The Elites may still think that bringing in loads of young immigrants will solve it. And it may--at the Federal level. The problem is that the cost of social services at the local and state level will offset this contribution. It is just shifting the cost burden, but will allows the politicians in Washington to claim that these programs are being preserved. However, the cost will be the destruction of our culture and country.
Interesting. That means the Xers are producing the next generation of us brats, even as we speak.
No, but you can thanks the Xers that are manning the line right now, in Afghanistan, and who manned the line in Gulf War I.
Maybe you aren't a manager because you are a whiny baby?
WAH WAH! Maybe upper management is sick of having to change your diapers and feed you your bottle.
Get off your lazy butt and work for something instead of whining about someone more qualified than you keeping their job.
If you weren't such a whiny mental age of a 3 year old you'd know the truth is most companies are firing the older people because they make more money.
And for the record I am 38. I worked hard and ironically just Friday was promoted to manager to take over for the 62 year old retiring on October 1st.
Lots of our generation the most spoiled rotten gimme gimme gimme generation in history went to college and partied and got their degrees in Advanced History of the Chicago Cubs or something useless like that. I did myself and then went back to school and became a paralegal.
Stop whining like a baby and go back to school if you aren't happy with what you are doing. I wasn't happy with my career so I went back to school. But then I'm an adult and a good person not a whiny baby.
I'm truly worried if we ever have a draft. Can you imagine Generation X or Y fighting a war "You mean mommy can't drive me? I might have to wake up before 8 am?"
Note please I am not putting down the armed forces right now the volunteer forces. They are the greatest. But if we had to draft we're in trouble.
Generation X and Y and the baby boomers would never win another WW2.
I was raised by parents born pre WW2.
That would require hard work and not whining which most of my generation has no clue about.
Generation X has yet to make anything better.
If I was your mother I would have left a whiny brat who still hasn't stopped whining now too.
Sorry that's too harsh but whining like a 3 year old isn't going to get you anywhere.
I don't know what "mod cons" means but as for the rest- Bull.
<< we are having more kids than the boomers >>
What's your source for that?
Are you kidding? Who do you think is making these states red? Certaining not the boomers who only wanted to smoke pot and have abortions. Finally because of Generation X there are vertually no abortions like there was in the 70's and 80's when your apparent generation just screwed whoever they felt like. We are a much conservative group and once we are in the power position this country will be incredible moral if not more.
No, I don't blame you. I blame the no-fault divorce laws and the feminist legal system--in any previous generations they would have gotten nothing.
You are such a patronizing ass--but that would go along with you being a former cop, wouldn't it?
I own plenty of real estate, a couple of houses and even timber land in Canada.....
I'm gen-x, I know where my bootstraps are and I know that I can only count on myself.
You should make an indie movie of my life!
I am on management track. I have an electrical engineering degree which I got on an Army scholarship. I have 16 years in the Guard and work for the Air Force. I'm doing great!
I'm an scientist AND a soldier:
What kind of dopey business degree do you have and what kind of rip off 'services' do you provide sell?
Why do you need to defend the 60's generation of locusts?
You're wierd and angry....
Sure, we whine.
Not only do we have to parent our own children, we have to parent our parents who never grew up. (My parents will likely outlive their savings- I guess 3 trips a year to Europe is their birthrite)
We will also work till we drop with no SS living with the mess. Most Boomers are truly selfish @ssholes.
"there are vertually no abortions like there was in the 70's and 80's"
Glad to hear that problem's solved. I see that literacy has taken quite a hit in this generation, however. :)
Dude! That was BRUTAL!
/ b 1967 - Gen-X prototype
Generation X has yet to make anything better.
How can we make any progress when we have to undo all the garbage you left us and you wont even have the decency to grow old gracefully, admit your selfishness and get off the swing? Your generation made selfishness a virtue...
For your information I am ashamed to be member of the worst generation aja Generation X.
Plenty of peope in our generation are doing fine. Those that quit whining and expect things to be given to them without working for them like you do.
I am sick of our generation blaming every problem we have on anyone but ourselves.
Every generation pays for the one before it to retire.
Sorry I don't think everyone over 60 should kill themselves like you do.
I'd rather work with people over 60 than those under 40.
Our generation doesn't even know how to wear a stinking baseball hat!
And whiny generation Xer who doesn't want to have to work for anything, most of the baby bommers parented their parents.
And your children will take care of you.
Most baby boomers are taking care of themselves.
And a whiny sniverling little brat.
I got a paralegel degree and am working hard and don't whine.
I work for what I get and don't expect handouts.
My parents are pre ww2 (April, 39 and Apri, 41),
Most baby boomers are going to take care of themselves in their old age.
They have a right to retire on their hard work.
SO GOD FORBID WE MIGHT HAVE TO WORK PAST 50! Us poor folks.
We are the most spoiled rotten generation in history only to spoil the one after us even more.
Although the generation X idea of sports is something as a Cub fan I would like. Everyone gets a trophy and no champions declared@!
I'm doing just fine, homeowner, degreed professional. Been working for over 20 years. Never expected anything to be given to me. Go climb a tree.
Your kidding, right. Boomers invented the retirement community so they could shove thier parents into them when they became inconvenient. Your right about Boomers taking care of themselves- The "ME GENERATION" has LOTS of practice.
Absolutely totally f'in wrong!
The only generations that paid for the retirement of the former--in the history of the entire f'in world--were:
1) The WWII Gen paid for the 'millenials'
2) The Baby Boomers paid for the WWII Gen.
3) We'll pay for the baby boomers.
The Boomers are the largest, richest, generation in American history and they are living longer than any other generation. We are one of the smallest.
Do you see the problem?
Now stop being a dick to Gen-X. Out of the 22 Lieutenants in my battalion in Korea in '91--5 just made Lieutenant Colonel 'below the zone'! All Gen-Xers....
Gen-X are the combat leaders in our present war and we are up to the task.
