PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President and Mrs. Bush arrived back at the White House late this afternoon, after spending a long weekend at the Bush-Walker family home in Kennebunkport, Maine. They attended a wedding of one of the President's cousins on the Walker side of the family.
Next week will be a busy one for President Bush as he marks the first anniversary of Hurricane Katrina at the beginning of the week, then attends campaign rallies, and addresses the American Legion Convention in Salt Lake City.
The President will spend two days in Mississippi and Louisiana. Here's an article from the WPMI (Mobile-Pensacola metro market) website:
Bush to visit Gulf Coast, New Orleans to mark Katrina anniversary
NEW ORLEANS (AP) - President Bush will spend two days on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and in New Orleans next week to commemorate the first anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
Bush will be in Mississippi on Monday to have lunch with community leaders, walk through a neighborhood, and deliver a speech on the rebuilding effort, before traveling to New Orleans, where he was scheduled to have dinner with state and local official and spend the night.
On Tuesday, Bush is scheduled to attend a service of prayer and remembrance in New Orleans and conduct a round-table discussion of an effort headed by First Lady Laura Bush to restock Gulf Coast libraries.
Folks in Utah are planning a lot of rallies both in honor of and protesting the President's visit to their state. Here's a report from the Deseret Morning News (click link embedded in article's title to read entire story):
Rallies abound this week
Thousands expected at events revolving around Bush visit
By Kersten Swinyard, Deseret Morning News Most Utah residents won't be in the convention hall when President Bush speaks to the American Legion on Thursday, and most probably won't be attending a fund-raiser for U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch where Bush will stump for the five-term lawmaker.
But they will have at least five different opportunities to tell the president what they think of him and his policies.
The demonstrations this week while Bush, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld are in town for the Legion convention are expected to draw thousands of participants with myriad messages. These include rallies that are pro-U.S. troops and pro-Bush, anti-Iraq war, anti-Israel and those concerned about immigration reform.
THE WEEK AHEAD:
_Monday, the President will visit Mississippi to start off Hurricane Katrina remembrances. _ Tuesday, the President visits New Orleans for Katrina remembrances there.
_ Wednesday, GWB is scheduled to attended a GOP fund-raising dinner in Nashville, Tenn., before departing for Salt Lake City. He is scheduled to spend Wednesday night in Salt Lake City.
_ Thursday, President Bush speaks to the American Legion Convention in Salt Lake City. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld will speak to the convention earlier in the week.

PHOTO OF THE DAY: This one doesn't need a caption. It speaks for itself about a father's pride in and love for his son. (We need to remember this shot next Father's Day.)

A few days in Maine seem to have done GWB a lot of good. He looks tanned and relaxed.

President Bush waves from his father, former President George H. W. Bush's boat, Fidelity III, off the coast of Kennebunkport, Maine as his father pilots the boat Sunday morning Aug. 27, 2006.

Former President George H. W. Bush, at the helm, races back into the cove as his son, President George W. Bush, with dark glasses, stands at his side. GHWB was zinging that boat right along, LOL!

Miss Beasley rushes out to greet the First Lady...

Online, trying to renew vehicle registration without trekking to No. VA. I don't want to leave my garden and my pool - and there's a possible hurricane and last August, I returned home just ahead of "Katrina". Don't want to do that this year. Ugh.
I wanted to thank you for the retrospective you did, was it last weekend? Or the weekend before? I really enjoyed and hope I remembered my manners, and told you that I did at the time. If not, this will have to suffice.
How's the job? Are you on the hunt for another one? Ever since I read that the plant you've been working at was being closed, I'm been praying for your employment.

Great pics Wolfstar.
The Presidency is such a relentlessly tough job, especially with a Democtrat Party that is directly anti-American in so many ways!
I'm still proud of G.W. for trying so hard. It's been real tough for him.........and for his family.

But where's Barney? As his sixth birthday rapidly approaches, a now mature Barney prefers to stay out of the media eye as much as possible. ;-)

I always had great success in finding new positions when the job market was "supposed" to be awful - the Summer and right before Christmas.
I'm praying that my luck for beating the odds is with you!
I always thought that College kids had taken the Summer off, and I found new positions when the companies were looking and beat out any new grad because they were still on the beach> Worked for me!

The Presidency is such a relentlessly tough jobIt sure is. And I'm especially pround of GWB. He's had to face far more difficult challenges than any president since FDR and Harry Truman, and I think our Dubya has done an outstanding job. Perfect? No. But anyone looking for perfection will never find it in this world.

I read that Pres. George H.W. Bush's boat goes 70 mph! - and it looks like that's about where he likes to keep it, too.
The Secret Service must have fits when he goes out in that thing. There are rocks and reefs where the President 41 likes to scoot.

True ........ but I've seen a lot of "perfection" over the past months in the love of those who care for the wonderful Barbaro. Not to turn this into one of our horse-related threads, but I read a story today on the Bloodhorse site about last year's Champion sprinter, Lost in the Fog. He was diagnosed with terminal cancer -- they found several large tumors. He's undergoing a therapy to see if they can shrink the tumors at least 50%. If they can, then they might be able to operate. Otherwise the horse will die. His trainer loves him, and has the horse at his stable while he's being treated. He's only a young horse, just a year older than Barbaro, and this is very sad for us animal lovers.
I won't send you the link unless you want me to.
