(IsraelNN.com) According to a poll commissioned by the Pew Research Center, a nonpartisan research organization, 42% of Americans believe that the modern state of Israel is a gift to the Jewish people by God. 35% of Americans see Israel as the fulfillment of New Testament prophecy about Jesus and the End Times. The Pew organization reports that these numbers, collected in July 2006, are largely unchanged since 2003.
In the southern United States, 56% believe that Israel was given to the Jewish people by God. 69% of White evangelical Protestants hold that belief, along with majorities of Black Protestants, as well. The July survey also shows that many more Americans say they sympathize more with Israel (44%) than with the Palestinian Authority (9%). A subsequent Pew survey, conducted Aug. 9-13, found even broader support for Israel; 52% said they sympathized more with Israel, compared with 11% who sympathized more with the Palestinians.
Results for this survey are based on telephone interviews conducted under the direction of Schulman, Ronca, & Bucuvalas, Inc. among a nationwide sample of 2,003 adults, 18 years of age or older, from July 6-19, 2006.

I thought it was the British.
Biblical mandate came first. ;)
Jeremiah 37 KJV
35 Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the Sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the Moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is His Name:
36 'If those ordinances depart from before Me,' saith the LORD, 'then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before Me for ever.'
37 Thus saith the LORD; 'If Heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the Earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done,' saith the LORD.
Ezekiel Chapter 34 KJV
13 And I will bring them out from the people, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land, and feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers, and in all the inhabited places of the country.
Ezekiel Chapter 36 KJV
24 For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land.
Amos Chapter 9 NIV
15 I will plant Israel in their own land, never again to be uprooted from the land I have given them," says the Lord your God.
This one doesn't. But I believe Jews have a right to an Israeli homeland - which I think includes Gaza, Golan, and even parts of Lebanon and Sainai. Jews were there long before Arabs.
Israelis are fools for giving their war booty back.
And those who would take Israel from the Jews are of the Devil.
The US is holding $9 billion in US loan guarantees and another $1 billion in aid over their heads.
By the time the US is done helping Israel, they will be back to the pre-1967 borders.
US cuts loan guarantees to Israel over settlement
The United States decided on Tuesday to cut its loan guarantees to Israel by 289.5 million US dollars to show its displeasure over Israel's continued settlement activities in occupied Palestinian land, especially the building of a so-called security wall in the West Bank.
The deduction was finalized after a White House meeting between President George W. Bush's National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice and Dov Weisglass, chief of staff for Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, reports here quoted informed sources as saying.
The sources also indicated that additional cuts could be made in the future from the 9 billion dollar package of US loan guarantees Israel is due to receive over three years.
The first deduction of the 289.5 million dollars will be made from the 1.4 billion dollars US loan guarantees due this year, the report said.
US National Security Council spokesman Sean McCormack said the US-Israeli agreement over the deduction "acknowledges US policy concerns and US law regarding activities in the West Bank and Gaza" and is "a reflection of close and continuing consultations between our two governments."
Under relevant US laws which established the 9 billion dollar loan guarantees, Israel should not use the money for activities onoccupied Palestinian land.
The Bush administration first announced the consideration of possible reduction in loan guarantees to Israel in August, after repeatedly expressing concerns over Israel's insistence on building the controversial security wall in the West Bank.

The problem is that the Shittes want the Jews to die and the Jews well they just want to live..... There can never be peace when there can only be one way.
And considering that they were the one's attacked, it is ridiculous to ask them to do so. Sadly, the U.S. has often asked them to do just that; bringing shame to all of us.
Yeah, but then he took it back.
I see it as a Divine Intervention that brought the Jews Israel. That said, I don't buy into "this is the End Times" thing, nor do I understand the obsession over it. The Bible clearly says that no one knows when it will come and that is shall not be anticipated, so why bother worrying about it?
It's one thing that's always irked me a bit about my Christian brothers. Just read Matthew 24 and abide by that.
Didn't God give everywhere, to everyone?
Not really, He exiled them off the land for their disobedience as a punishment as He said he would do in Lev 26. The land is still theirs, they just weren't allowed to live on it together as a nation, until recently.
In a sense, the Lord still considers it "His land", which he has given to Israel and refers to it both ways. And God gives a warning to those nations that plot to divide "His land". And to the people who would claim the land of Israel in their absense.
Anyone who claimed Israeli land as their own after Israel's exile, should have realized that they were squatting on land they could never keep, because God had promised it to Israel and had promised repeatedly that He would return them to it.
Lev 26, promises they would be exiled if they were disobedient, but would be returned if they repent, which happened with the Babylonian Exile. But if they didn't repent, God would multiply their punishment, but eventually would honor his covenant and restore them anyway. Zechariah writing after the Babylonian Exile speaks of another exile after which God would gather them from far countries. That exile happened because they didn't recognize Jesus (Luke 19:44), resulted in nearly 1900 years of exile, unspeakable horrors as promised in Lev 26, and God returned them to Israel despite their refusal to repent and recognize Jesus. But Zechariah says a restored Israel will suddenly recognize "me whom they have pierced". That ecognition hasn't happened yet, but the return has. Exekiel 36 talks at length about their return. And notice God cleanses them after their return which matches Zechariah. And Exek 38 speaks also of a returned Israel gathered out of many lands (1948), describing an apparent future Russian/Persian alliance that will invade and apparently overrun Israel but will soon be quickly destroned in the Israeli mountains, and the valley of megiddon.
Lev 26:43 The land also shall be left of them, and shall enjoy her sabbaths, while she lieth desolate without them: and they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity: because, even because they despised my judgments, and because their soul abhorred my statutes. 44 And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God. 45 But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God: I am the LORD.
2 Chronicles 7:20 - Then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have sanctified for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and will make it to be a proverb and a byword among all nations.
Isaiah 14:25 - That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders.
Ezekiel 36 1 Also, thou son of man, prophesy unto the mountains of Israel, and say, Ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the LORD: 2 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because the enemy hath said against you, Aha, even the ancient high places are ours in possession: 3 Therefore prophesy and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because they have made you desolate, and swallowed you up on every side, that ye might be a possession unto the residue of the heathen, and ye are taken up in the lips of talkers, and are an infamy of the people: 4 Therefore, ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus saith the Lord GOD to the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys, to the desolate wastes, and to the cities that are forsaken, which became a prey and derision to the residue of the heathen that are round about; 5 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the heathen, and against all Idumea, which have appointed my land into their possession with the joy of all their heart, with despiteful minds, to cast it out for a prey. 6 Prophesy therefore concerning the land of Israel, and say unto the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I have spoken in my jealousy and in my fury, because ye have borne the shame of the heathen: 7 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I have lifted up mine hand, Surely the heathen that are about you, they shall bear their shame. 8 But ye, O mountains of Israel, ye shall shoot forth your branches, and yield your fruit to my people of Israel; for they are at hand to come. 9 For, behold, I am for you, and I will turn unto you, and ye shall be tilled and sown: 10 And I will multiply men upon you, all the house of Israel, even all of it: and the cities shall be inhabited, and the wastes shall be builded: 11 And I will multiply upon you man and beast; and they shall increase and bring fruit: and I will settle you after your old estates, and will do better unto you than at your beginnings: and ye shall know that I am the LORD. 12 Yea, I will cause men to walk upon you, even my people Israel; and they shall possess thee, and thou shalt be their inheritance, and thou shalt no more henceforth bereave them of men. 13 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because they say unto you, Thou land devourest up men, and hast bereaved thy nations: 14 Therefore thou shalt devour men no more, neither bereave thy nations any more, saith the Lord GOD. 15 Neither will I cause men to hear in thee the shame of the heathen any more, neither shalt thou bear the reproach of the people any more, neither shalt thou cause thy nations to fall any more, saith the Lord GOD. 16 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 17 Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their own way and by their doings: their way was before me as the uncleanness of a removed woman. 18 Wherefore I poured my fury upon them for the blood that they had shed upon the land, and for their idols wherewith they had polluted it: 19 And I scattered them among the heathen, and they were dispersed through the countries: according to their way and according to their doings I judged them. 20 And when they entered unto the heathen, whither they went, they profaned my holy name, when they said to them, These are the people of the LORD, and are gone forth out of his land. 21 But I had pity for mine holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the heathen, whither they went. 22 Therefore say unto the house of Israel, thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name's sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went. 23 And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes. 24 For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land. 25 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. 26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. 28 And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God. 29 I will also save you from all your uncleannesses: and I will call for the corn, and will increase it, and lay no famine upon you. 30 And I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that ye shall receive no more reproach of famine among the heathen. 31 Then shall ye remember your own evil ways, and your doings that were not good, and shall lothe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations. 32 Not for your sakes do I this, saith the Lord GOD, be it known unto you: be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, O house of Israel. 33 Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day that I shall have cleansed you from all your iniquities I will also cause you to dwell in the cities, and the wastes shall be builded. 34 And the desolate land shall be tilled, whereas it lay desolate in the sight of all that passed by. 35 And they shall say, This land that was desolate is become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are become fenced, and are inhabited. 36 Then the heathen that are left round about you shall know that I the LORD build the ruined places, and plant that that was desolate: I the LORD have spoken it, and I will do it. 37 Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will yet for this be enquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for them; I will increase them with men like a flock. 38 As the holy flock, as the flock of Jerusalem in her solemn feasts; so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
Exekiel 38 8 After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them. ...16 And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.
Joel 3:2 I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.
Zech 10:8 I will hiss for them, and gather them; for I have redeemed them: and they shall increase as they have increased. 9 And I will sow them among the people: and they shall remember me in far countries; and they shall live with their children, and turn again. 10 I will bring them again also out of the land of Egypt, and gather them out of Assyria; and I will bring them into the land of Gilead and Lebanon; and place shall not be found for them.
Zech 12:2 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. 3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.....8 In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the LORD before them. 9 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. 10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.
He gave man dominion over the earth. But he specifically took the land of Canaan away from an evil population and culture and gave it to Israel.
No one knows the day and hour, but we are supposed to recognize when it is near Mathew 24:33. God obiously gave us all of these prophecies about the end times for a reason. He didn't want us to completely ignore them. But neither are they more important than the gospel.
They are however an important witness. The return of Israel is fulfilled prophecy in our day. There are people who assume the ancient prophecies that were fulfilled in ancient times must have been written after the fulfillment. But nobody can dispute that the prophecies about Israel's exile to far countries, and subsequent return were written before they happened.
Right.
Wasn't it Paul Newman (Exodus)?? lol
Israel should continually make the case for God giving israel to the jews, as well as the fact that jews have lived there for thousands of years.
They should have at least this much!
Ping!
There were many land transactions in the Bible, and God supported the right of individuals to manage their land. God even recognized the right of the Edomites to not allow the Israelites to cross their land on the way to Canaan even when Moses asked permission (Numbers 20:17-21).

But it's happened more than once.
Wonder why the Pew Research Center, commissioned this particular poll and why now? I would not exactly call them a "nonpartisan research organization". Further I would like to see where they got their list to make these calls, did they randomly call people out of the phone book?
Ahmedinejad has definitely got some "separation" between the ears, that's for sure!
Have no idea. Just saw this article from Arutz Sheva on another website and posted it here.
Thanks. I do find it interesting that somebody has the need to find out what Christians believe.
There are many that do not see the bible as you do.
I would have to guess that since they are the "pew" organization that they targeted mostly Christians as the article seems to indicate.
when i saw "Pew" I thought, OK, probably a little not-so-random sampling there. But I'll be happy if this at least applies to church members, at least as a start.
That being said, the anti-Israel forces in the world are sizeable.
Hmmm? British flag is comprised of three crosses.
That's very true.
However, in the final analysis, it matters only how the God of Israel sees things, for He will have the final say.
Of course, most of the world does not believe that either, admittedly.
God DID give Israel to the Jews.
If God wants Israel to have that land, He (and they) sure don't need any American help in keeping it.
Every time I see Mahmoud, I keep thinking "stereotypical James Bond villian"...
"No, Mr. Bond, I want you to die!!! Muahahahaha!"
I didn't know they were political. Thanks.
Too bad MI6 can't remove this guy in an "accident". I do believe he's dangerous enough to warrant such action. He could start the precursor to Armageddon.
Indeed...
Sure it says no oone knows the exact time but the whold book of Revelation is written to for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear. It definately tells you things to look for. Why is that????????? So that you will not be deceived maybe.
I think it would be more accurate to say, that in the final analysis, it matters only how God sees things, for He will have the final say.
It was a joke.
That's not surprising in light of the fact that Lev 26, lays out two senarios. And that Zechariah prophecized about a second exile and return after the first return.
In the Babylonian exile Israel was really exiled to just one country. They weren't scattered to "far countries" like they were in the most recent exile.
