Katie's Extreme Makeover? (another altered image!)
TV Newser ^ | Tuesday, Aug 29 | Brian Stelter

"Talk about a waistline touch-up," an e-mailer says:

The left photo is the official first-pic-of-Katie released by CBS at this year's upfront. (TVNewser posted it in May.) The right photo is an edited version of the same photo, from the September issue of Watch magazine, which is owned by CBS. (Here's the PDF of the magazine.)

Not again?! This might be OK in the world of entertainment, but it's not a good start if Katie wants to be taken seriously in the news department.

Just removing the weight Americans don't want to see.

Cameras add weight photoshop takes away. The world is in balance.

The left pic makes her look like Tipper Gore. The right one makes her look like The Joker.

Fortunately, I won't be watching whichever one shows up on TV.

Hello! CBS! Why play around with the pic when your target audience will be watching her nightly. Or did the pick up Television Camera, Adobe Edition?

Biden has the most insincere smile of any human, ever. When he smiles, you can read his thoughts, which are "You are SO less intelligent than I is!"

Katie's smile makes her look like a silly lightweight, a giggly girl, not a woman of substance.

CBS Puts Couric on Photoshop Diet

CBS blames the "editorial staff" of a promotional magazine for doctoring a photo to dramatically slim Katie Couric down, but those editors are in fact the network’s PR staff.

Website TVNewser caught CBS putting Couric on a diet in its Watch magazine by altering a photo of her from the network’s upfront presentation that substantially thins her waist and face. The Website showed the magazine’s version next to the version originally taken at the network’s ad presentation in Carnegie Hall last May.

Magazine photos are altered all the time. However, this alteration comes as the network is struggling to portray longtime NBC Today Show co-host Couric as a news anchor with the gravitas to convey serious news.

A CBS spokesman says only that "the editorial staff of Watch magazine retouched the photo without the knowledge of Katie Couric or CBS news management" and would not elaborate further.

However, the alteration is completely an inside job. Much of the production and ad sales of the quarterly magazine are handled by an outside custom publisher, but the editorial content is all prepared by CBS’ own communications department. The magazine’s masthead says that Executive VP, Communications, Gil Schwartz is editor in chief and Director of Communications Jeremy Murphy is editor.

Murphy— who actually puts out the magazine—would not comment Tuesday, but in an interview in PR Week when the magazine was announced last year, Murphy said, "It really is a journalistic enterprise. We're putting together a magazine that will be useful."

Tongue in cheek, Schwartz says that "nothing in Watch magazine has done anything to diminish Katie's true stature."

Through a spokesman, Couric says that she prefers the original photo "because there's more of me to love."

I cannot believe the lengths they are going to promote this bonafide effin` idiot. Like I posted in another thread, here in NYC you would think the second coming of the Messiah was coming down to save the masses, everywhere you look they have this bimbos picture. It`s like some sort of sick Stalin, Saddam, Kim Jung Il messiah complex, her freakish mug is everywhere. The only thing missing is the 50 ft statues. For example, read this...Note the amount of buses they say...

Couric To Ride the Bus -- Every Bus

"The face of Katie Couric will appear on every single bus in the city of New York as part of an unprecedented $10-million campaign to promote her ascension to the anchor's desk at the CBS Evening News, the New York Times reported Sunday. The network also flew news anchors from its top 48 affiliates to New York to interview Couric for features that will be presented on each local station, the newspaper said. The promotional campaign for Couric, the Times observed, is comparable only to those mounted for hit primetime shows like CSI. Broadcasting & Cable magazine observed that a massive New York poster campaign will also target New York subway stations and Grand Central and Penn stations. CBS is also set to become the inaugural sponsor of the New York Times new online TV section, launching Sept. 4. Couric told the Times that she expects her program will be distinguished by the fact that it will spend less time on "news of the day" and focus "on longer takeouts, if you will." She said that it will also devoted 90 seconds or so each night to a segment titled "Free Speech" that will present opinions of ordinary Americans, scholars, and sometimes even comedians."

As if 911 wasn`t bad enough, now we have to be tortured by this nightmare?

This is just the tip of the iceburg of what technology can do.

All the women on the show Sex and the city had their bodies and faces digitally altered frame by frame on each episode to make them look younger, remove any wrinkles and crows feet, more shapely, and more attractive.

This goes on these days more than anyone can even conceive. Many of these people way different in real life.

Remember when they did that to Hillary's mug shot on her book, "Living History"? Made her slimmer, prettier, and 30 pounds lighter. Made her look 1,000 times better.

And I can't help but laugh when a Freeper bought Hill's book, got in line at a book signing, and asked Hillary when she got to the front who did the computer touchup for the cover of the book. Hillary's face went from perky to witch in a moment and the Freeper was whisked away immediately without Hillary's autograph.

Just some things I noted about the edit..
1. Pic2 has more background on the left..
Evidently both pics have been "cropped" from a larger original..But they are probably 2 different crops of the same original..

2. Note the lighter crescent in the upper left drape.
It is thinner in pic2..
My guess, pic2 was originally a wider crop than pic1, then it was "squeezed", i.e., resized horizontally, effectively thinning the subject matter..

3. Not only has the waist been edited, but the arms as well.. And the hips, just below the arms..
Folds at the shoulder are not in pic2, likewise, the elbows.. At the hip, the jacket bottom is clearly seen, but not so well in pic2, if at all..

4. The neck has definitely been edited, as well as the cheeks and jawline.. ( pic1 the cheeks are rounder, as is the whole face..)

5. The chin has been edited, or rather the shadow under the chin, to eliminate what is probably a saggy neck.. (wattle)

6. Lighting / color balance is changed in pic2 to eliminate some of the softness of pic1..
Eliminating the yellow and increasing red/blue accents the lights and darks, and introduces a more "angular" appearance..
Thus, the features seem sharper, there is more definition between light and shadow in pic2..

7. The suit has been darkened to lose some of the detail of the pinstripes..
This is partially for the thinning effect of darkening the suit, and partly to camoflauge the editing done to the picture..
