"The British Fertility Society is recommending women with a body mass index of 36 and over should not be allowed access to fertility treatment.

Underweight women and those classed just as obese (BMI over 29) should be forced to address their weight before starting treatment, the society said. "

That recommendation would draw a racial discrimination suit before the ink on it dried if someone made it in the States.

Just curious - wonder why they only mention obese in the title and not the underweight, since underweight is also mentioned in the article.

It fits the "Obesity Crisis" template?

Wonder how all the fatties who supported smoking bans feel now?

Who's next on the liberal hit list?

There wouldn't be a problem as long as it is framed as a health issue. BMI of 31 is serious fatass and unhealthy.

The BFS, which represents health fertility professionals, also recommended single women and same sex couples be given the same priority as heterosexual couples.

Fat chicks to the back of the line, homosexuals and wannabe unwed mothers, step to the front please!

What they DON'T address in the typical 'fat people are stupid' vein, is that ALOT of the women who are having fertility problems AND are obese most likely have Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome. A disease that CAUSES obesity as well as infertility.

If they treated one, they would probably rectify the other.

But doctors are Gods and all they have to do to absolve themselves of any responsibility or good doctoring is say "Diet and exercise". Unfortunately, there are medical reasons that make it difficult, if not impossible for some (not all of course) to lose weight even with Diet and Exercise. I was eating 900 calories a day and walking two miles four to five times a week and managed to lose a whopping 10 lbs in four months. I hear other people say they got sick and lost 10 lbs in a week. People's bodies ARE different, but it's ok to hate fat people so don't bother having an understanding or compassion for them.

I calculate that for a woman of median height of 5'4" (1.63 m), a BMI of 29 corresponds to 277 lbs (126 Kg)

Because the title mentions a ban only for the obese. Skinny's are not banned.

We must stamp out poverty to stamp out obesity!

I just like writing that. It shows how upside down/inside out we are :) Studies show that there exists direct correlation to obesity and poverty.

What was I thinking, the war on poverty should include health club memberships for the morbidly poor.

the way it's going, skinny's definitely the sign of beauty because of the rarity. Just like they used to idolize hefty girls when everyone was hungry. Talking teh Renaissance.
