FOX/Opinion Dynamics News Poll: Clinton Ready to Be First Female President ((((SHUDDER))))
Fox News ^ | 8/31/06

Posted on 08/31/2006 1:25:26 PM PDT by areafiftyone

NEW YORK — Just over half of Americans believe Sen. Hillary Clinton is prepared to be the first female president of the United States, according to a new FOX News poll. In addition, Clinton is the preferred choice of Democratic voters for their party’s 2008 presidential nominee; on the Republican side, former NY Mayor Rudy Giuliani barely edges out Ariz. Sen. John McCain for frontrunner billing.

Opinion Dynamics Corporation conducted the national telephone poll of 900 registered voters for FOX News from August 29 to August 30. The poll has a 3-point error margin.

A slim 51-percent majority of voters believes Clinton is prepared to be the first woman president, though a large minority disagrees (43 percent). There are essentially no gender differences, as about the same number of men (49 percent) and women (52 percent) think Clinton is ready.

On the political side, Democrats (75 percent) are three times as likely as Republicans (24 percent), and significantly more likely than independents (50 percent) to think Clinton is prepared for a promotion.

"It is clear that Senator Clinton remains a deeply polarizing figure," comments Opinion Dynamics Chairman John Gorman. "While half the country seems prepared to give her a chance, nearly as many won’t consider her. If she’s in the race in 2008 we can look forward to yet another late night finish, with all the acrimony, suspicion and bitterness that the last two elections have produced."

The poll finds that Clinton far outdistances the other Democrats for the party’s nomination. She receives the backing of 32 percent of self-identified Democrats, down from 43 percent earlier this year (March 14-15).

I don't get this. Just over half of Americans? Do they mean, LEFTY Americans? Do they mean ILLEGAL Americans? Because I'm an American and I don't believe I was ever polled.....

WTF? These polls are so ludicrous. I believe Hillary Clinton needs to prepare herself for LOSING. That's what I believe. Her party is goin' down (and by fault of themselves, ifyouaskme)!!!!

Count me among the just under half who think she has no qualifications whatsoever to be president.

This poll like so many others AGAIN over-represents Democrats relative to their numbers in the actual voting population. The real figures are about 35% Dem, 32% Republican. This poll has a differential of more than double that at 8 points, 41% Dem, 33% GOP. AGAIN we see this is a factor in why Bush's polling numbers show up at under 40% in these polls, and this one has him at 38% approval with only 8% of Democrats approving. A correct balance would likely have Bush around the 43% approval rating other polls are showing.

Hey, John-Boy, there's a big difference between saying she may have the qualifications to be president, and saying she therefore SHOULD be president.

The far left hates her, viewing her as part of the establishment, even though she's a big lib at heart who is trying to run in the middle and look presidential. I seriously doubt if she will make it thru the Dem primarys in '08.

The fact that Hillary Clinton has not stood trial for numerous illegal acts performed both in and out of the cloak of public service is a discredit to all the members of our congress.

From campaign finance violations and illegal use of Air Force One for her Senate campaign to strong armed intimidation of witnesses in a federal trial

...illegal use of the IRS, theft and distruction of government property and private files

- and especially the cloudy murky conditions of Vince Foster's murder, she has no business even walking the streets as a free woman, let alone serving in our Senate and seeking the highest office in the land.

When and if people find out who she really is and what she really stands for, she shouldn't have a chance in hell. But that is the problem; the MSM won't scrutinize her. We need a plan that will make the Swift Boat exposure of Kerry look like a picnic.

"Clinton is prepared ? Prepared? What is that suppose to mean?"

It means they're struggling to get people to say they'll vote for her. Saying she's prepared and saying they'll actually vote for her are two different things.

What these polls usually mean at this stage is that the winner has name recognition, and that most folks are too embarassed to admit that they don't follow politics closely enough in order to identify the other favorites.

This poll is kaka. 41% polled were Dems, 33% were Republican & 20% were independents. That is why Bush has a 38% approval rating in this poll and that is why Hillary is barely perceived to be prepared. That polling sample would never exist in elections. only in Bizaro world

If the Democrats win the House, Senator Clinton doesn't have to win - an electoral tie would activate the House as final electors.

about the same number of men (49 percent) and women (52 percent) think Clinton is ready.

What?! Only 52% of women think *Hillary!* is ready to be Prez? This blows Dick Morris' analysis out the window. He's claiming that Hillary would be the favorite to win because all the young single moms (the demographic with the lowest voter turnout) will come out and vote for her. Yet this polls shows that only 52% of women think Hillary is qualified to be prez.

This "polle" ignores basic political realities, which include:

The LAST time that a candidate for President won election WITHOUT first serving as the governor of a state was Vice President George H.W. Bush in 1988. And that was only because George the Elder was riding eight years of Reagan policies, and because the 'Rats were stupid enough to nominate a jamoke like Massachusetts' Lt.Governor John Kerry's boss, Michael Dukakis.

And the LAST sitting Senator who was elected President was noneother than John F. Kennedy in 1960.

The road to the White House has increasingly passed through a governor's mansion, and the junior Senator from New York not only has a tin political ear, she has a hot temper that she won't be able to control on the campaign trail, and ironically her vote in favor of liberating Iraq has put her to the right of Senator John F'in Kerry and that whole pack of Kos/Lamontites/MoveOn.Org frenzied Bush-haters and even IF Senator Mrs. Bill Clinton were to get the 'Rat nomination, she will face a fractured Party that will make the '68 nomination of Humphrey/Muskie look like a unity weekend and picnic at Portobello.
