HELENA - A new poll shows GOP incumbent U.S. Sen. Conrad Burns locked in a statistical tie with Democratic challenger Jon Tester.

The USA Today/Gallup Poll released Friday shows likely voters favor Tester 48 percent to Burns' 45 percent, inside the poll's margin of error of 4 percentage points. Registered voters favored Burns 44 percent to 42 percent, again inside the margin of error.

The telephone survey of 870 registered voters was taken Aug. 23-Aug. 27, and included a subsample of 641 people deemed most likely to vote in November.

A friend of mine did some contracting work for Tester. Guess whose large portrait he has hanging in his bathroom? Chairman Mao.

Imagine having a US Senator who idolizes the worst mass murdering totalitarian leader in human history.

I have an autographed picture of a very young King Hussein of Jordan for historical reasons.

For historical reasons, someone could easily have a picture of Mao who was a quite famous person.

"For historical reasons, someone could easily have a picture of Mao who was a quite famous person."

Yea right. Thats why those ever popular pictures of Hitler and Stalin are popping up everywhere. My favorite is Idi Amin, but there's something to be said for the Pol Pot portrait.

"A friend of mine did some contracting work for Tester. Guess whose large portrait he has hanging in his bathroom? Chairman Mao"

Typical Democrat.

Guess he couldn't find a picture of Joe Stalin so he had to settle for second best.

This situation has gotten so much out of control, I doubt if the normal electoral process can ever resolve it. The country is becoming more and more polarized between patriotic old school Americans and crypto-bolsheviks. A good deal of this can be laid at the feet of the leftist educational institutions and the equally leftist pacifist mainstream churches.

I always thought that Montana, Idaho, etc, were reservoirs of "real Americans" unlike the liberal neocommunists from the eastern cities who question God, country, mom, apple pie, the flag and the Second Amendment.

I hope you guys can pull through.

Bush should use Laura more often. She is very charming and wellspoken.

Be interesting to see what the numbers were among likely voters.

The topline numbers are likely voters.

Tester leads three among likely voters; Burns leads two among registered voters. This indicates that according to this poll, Democrats in Montana are more motivated than Republicans in Montana are to vote.

Had I read more carefully I'd have seen this. Looks like it's time to advertise John's record. Pin him down on what he'll do.

If he really idolized Mao, as you claim, don't you think he'd have the portrait somewhere other than his bathroom? Would you take a dump in front of your hero?

He is, at best, trivializing Mao, who was a mass murderer even worse than Hitler. Everyone knows that a poster of Hitler anywhere outside a museum would be unacceptable,
and for good reason. It is a mockery of his victims.

Why is a poster of Mao all right? I think it proves that Tester, who after all is running for the Senate, doesn't understand the evil of communism.

And why do we assume that the placement of the poster in the bathroom is meant to be a joke? Maybe he just didn't want it too clear where his sympathies lie. An issue should be made of this, and will be if the Republicans have any guts.

"I always thought that Montana, Idaho, etc, were reservoirs of "real Americans" "

We are being inundated with middle aged hippies and People's Republik of Calipornia immigrants. We lost the Governor's mansion, the state house and are now tied in the state senate as of 2004. We already have a DemonRat in our other US Senate seat. Heck I wouldn't be surprised if our lone US House seat will be lost as well. I am as deeply saddened as Dasshole.

Sad, but remember Frank Church? He was evetually flushed down the bowl. The others will go too, if we can maintain control of the Republican Party.

If not, its time to pack up, let it wither on the vine as another Dem clone and start another political party.

I thought it was Kalipornia ?

We have sadly started to turn blue since the insurgence of California pukes and east coasters here. Lots of grey pony tails with lots of forehead oh and fanny packs! Lots of 30-40 yr old women who don't dye their hair and consequently lots of liberal aholes now taking over real Montanans! WAKE UP MT AND GET THE VOTE OUT! I can imagine if Conrad pulls this out in a squeaker we'll hear the howling of a stolen election. Wait for it!

I'd feel a lot better about him being in office if he had a picture of George Washington in his bathroom.

I have a tremendous admiration for Abraham Lincoln. I have a number of books on him and own a small brass bust of the President. And because I have such a high regard for him I have the books in my den and the bust on my desk. I could imagine nothing more insulting than placing Lincoln's picture in the john and nowhere else.

The DU-ummies and out of state libs are pummeling Sen. Burns in Montana.

http://www.billingsgazette.net/articles/2006/09/27/news/state/40-debate.txt

This guy here could be Montana's next Senator if we are not careful.

Here is a link to Montana Public Radio where you can listen to Jon Tester debate Sen Burns in Butte. Tester is scary and almost frothing at the mouth about repealing the Patriot Act.

This story should wake anyone up to the underhanded dirty political tactics employed by Tester and the Democrats.   The Democrats are going out of their way to get their guy elected.

This Tester is a punk thug.

He's the worst sort of Democrat I've seen in this state, and he's compared himself to Mike Mansfield (former Montana Senator and Ambassador to Japan). He is nothing like Mansfield. Mansfield had character.

I've had sort of a dislike for Burns for quite a number of years, even my folks will admit that, but as you say, this has gotten outrageous.

I'll crawl on broken glass if I have to, to vote for Burns.

I burned the two debates onto a CD-ROM and gave it to mom and dad. They're voting for Burns anyway, but it gave them a sense of just how arrogant Tester is.
