The Sons of Confederate Veterans came out strong against the Klan.
See post 22 and stop playing the race card like the Dems. The Sons of Confederate Veterans WERE THERE to protest the Klan. Were you?
The 37th Texas Cavalry were the counter protesters. What few SCV members that were there were all for show and the media coverage.
Do you unabashedly advocate that the Sons of Confederate Veterans becomes a modern, 21st century Christian war machine capable of uniting the Confederate community and leading it to ultimate victory?
I cannot believe you actually posted this LIE!!! I am a part of this organization... and you were not there. You should have at least said that this was your uninformed opinion. You have lost all credibility here.
And do you support Kirk Lyons when he says....
Why is it most of you SCV supporters can't answer this question or any other questions into Kirk Lyons extensive ties to racist organizations?
thanks for that info.
I like to browse here: http://memory.loc.gov/wpaintro/wpahome.html for first hand accounts of the era, especially the Reconstruction period.
>>>The Pulaski six founded the Klan as a terror organ of the democratic party by Confederate Civil War veterans Captain John C. Lester, Major James R. Crowe, John D. Kennedy, Calvin Jones, Richard R. Reed, Frank O. McCord.<<<
I think you have been spending too much time in the midst of the race-baiting ADL.
this is from wikipedia. it supports what you wrote:
The Klan's first incarnation was in 1866. Founded by veterans of the Confederate Army, its main purpose was to resist Reconstruction, and it focused as much on intimidating "carpetbaggers" and "scalawags" as on putting down the freed slaves. It quickly adopted violent methods. A rapid reaction set in, with the Klan's leadership disowning violence, and Southern elites seeing the Klan as an excuse for federal troops to continue their activities in the South. The organization was in decline from 1868 to 1870 and was destroyed in the early 1870s by President Ulysses S. Grant's vigorous action under the Civil Rights Act of 1871 (also known as the Ku Klux Klan Act).
There isn't a single Klan website that doesn't make the same claim as well as a Plaque on the very building where the Klan was started with those names inscribed on it.
The ADL didn't put the plaque there.
>>>There isn't a single Klan website that doesn't make the same claim as well as a Plaque on the very building where the Klan was started with those names inscribed on it.<<<
The original Klan was disbanded in 1869. The modern-day KKK was created in 1915. Which Klan are you referring to?
The Modern day Klans still trace their roots back to the Original Klan founded in Pulaski Tennessee. As you may well know the Klan has gone through three incarnations, but all recognize The Pulaski six as the Originators of the Klan.
Want to split hairs finer?
As far as the Gettysburg event is concerned... I had planned on being there until Tropical Storm Ernesto flooded my family room. I have water coming in through the foundation into my finished family room and I am dealing with that.
... and I can claim that I am a member of your family, and even speak for you. Will people believe you when you try to disassociate yourself?
So which of my brothers are you, the gay one, The dead one, or the Hare Krishna?
In all honesty why care about denying the facts about the birth of the Klan and it's originators when they are well documented? Would you rather that the blame fall not on people like Jim Crowe but instead continue the myth that Nathan Bedford Forrest created the Klan all by his lonesome? Isn't it bad enough that Forrest's tactic genius is buried beneath enough lies about his character and his exploits, but do you also have to blame him for the Klan as well.
You have a good point. There should be no "freedom of speech" on a national battlefield. The main purpose of commemorating a battle is to inspire appropriate thoughts in the citizenry. A Klan or communist rally at Gettysburg, or any other battle site, is an outrage and should be specificially prohibited by federal legislation.
>>>The Modern day Klans still trace their roots back to the Original Klan founded in Pulaski Tennessee.<<<
Of course they do. That is the only way they can pretend to have some sort of legitimacy with leftists.
I think cobra is trying to join the SCV - he kept asking me the same questions on another thread.
I think the best counter-demonstration is to have everybody in "gayed-up" Klan garb. Like something out of Monty Python. It would drive them crazy.
