Haleigh Poutre Almost Victim of Euthanasia, Now Making Good Progress

Boston, MA (LifeNews.com) -- Haleigh Poutre was the victim of child abuse and was nearly killed via euthanasia when Massachusetts officials gave up on her after she entered a coma. Now Poutre, once termed "brain dead" by doctors, continues to improve and is speaking a few words, her grandmother says.

Sandra Sudyka, the girl's biological grandmother, is no longer allowed to visit her granddaughter and now says she is ready to speak to the media about Poutre's condition.

She told The Republican newspaper that she last saw Poutre on July 18 but indicated she was "doing well."

"She was bright-eyed and smiling. She is always responsive to us," Sudyka explained.

Department of Social Services had asked Sudyka not to talk with reporters about Haleigh, but since they will no longer allow her and Haleigh's biological mother, Allison Avrett, to visit the 12 year-old, she said she's going to talk to the media.

"I decided since they broke the deal, I am going to talk. People should know how well she is doing," Sudyka told the newspaper.

"They don't want people to know how she is doing after they wanted to pull the plug," Sudyka said.

DSS spokeswoman Denise Monteiro declined an interview with The Republican but said that the visiting privileges have been suspended, not terminated.

Haleigh first began speaking in June, her grandmother told the newspaper.

"I was saying to her 'I love you,' and she was trying to say 'love' and it came out as a vibration...'ove,'" Sudyka said.

Sudyka, who is working with an attorney to adopt the girl, said she has said hello, responds to comments and questions, speaks nonverbally and is able to write her name. Haleigh can't walk and is confined to a wheelchair.

Avrett, Poutre's biological mother, lost custody of her daughter after physically abusing her. Poutre was put into a foster home where her adoptive parents also abused her. Her adopted mother committed suicide after abusing Poutre so much she had to be hospitalized.

DSS took Poutre into custody and when she appeared to slip into a coma, the agency asked the state Supreme Court for permission to take her life. That's when Poutre began responding.

Poutre has been receiving physical, speech and occupational therapy since January 26 at Franciscan Hospital for Children in Brighton.

Gov. Mitt Romney appointed a commission to look into how the state failed to properly handle the girl's case.

Another flaw in Kerry's "stupid soldier" theory is that you need your best in battle. Combat is "The Most Dangerous Game." You fight smart or die. When we send sad sack screw-ups like Kerry into battle, we put everyone else in the unit at risk.

I, for one, am glad the SOB copped an early out in Nam. If I were in his outfit, I wouldn't want to be looking over my shoulder to see which way he's running.

A Boortz take on the upcoming election...

Don't get me wrong ... I still have this deep felt desire to see the Republican's get punished by the electorate in next week's midterm election ... but suddenly the stakes seem to be too high.

What turned the tide for me? John Kerry, that's what. That insipid, haughty, pretentious jerk uttered another one of his absurd statements about our men and women in uniform ... and in a flash my fear of Democrats and their disdain for our military services overcame any desire I had to put Republicans over my knee.

TURNING POINT --- AT LEAST FOR ME (Boortz)

Or who he was shooting at.

Accompanying caption: "Selection of inmates at Auschwitz. Mengele is in foreground at far right with cigarette in hand"

At the moral level, this scene is recreated every time a euthanazi, a bioethicker, a right-to-die advocate, a troll, a lawyer, a judge chooses who shall die.

I either love what Boortz is talking about or I get so angry I turn him off. I appreciate him talking about this yesterday, but he also made a comment about how the Pennsylvania GOP should not have nominated Santorum.

Boortz was no friend of Terri. Here is a clip from a Larry King show:

NEAL BOORTZ, RADIO TALK SHOW HOST: Well, yes, Larry, I am. And we've been talking about this case not only for the last couple weeks, but for last couple of years. I actually like to consider myself more libertarian. But I do favor keeping the tube out, because I think, first of all, I believe that the court reached the right decision when they said that that was the wish of Terri Schiavo.

But second of all, I think that 15 years for her soul to be trapped in this limbo with this non-functioning body is quite enough. It's time to let her go home. And it's a real pity that this has been turned into such a political contest. I frankly wonder whether some of the combatants are that concerned about Terri, as much as they are about their own political agenda and political goals.

Boortz should stick to property rights. Even the Fair Tax has a lot of flaws as far as I can tell.

An oxymoron if I ever heard one!

Neal Boortz claims to be a libertarian. In the National Review / Old Right / Goldwater tradition, that is an honorable and conscientious philosophy. A libertarian is a principled defender of everyone's God-given rights to life, liberty, property, and a deep-dyed opponent of statist interventions. But where was Boortz when the state stripped Terri Schiavo of everything -- of her property, her liberty and her life? He was on CNN, calmly approving of Terri's court-ordered extermination!

Another spiritual heir of Mengele.

No need for wonderment about Judge Whittemore allowing Maxx Linn to debate. Linn's Attorney Lirot is also Joe Redner's attorney. It was a slam dunk that Whittemore would rule for Lirot. Remember Joe Redner, the atheist and aclu member was at Terri's federal crt hrg but the court staff would not allow a woman in a wheelchair to attend the hearing! This was the Donald Trump of lap dancing v. a disabled woman. Whittemore=Redner=Lirot=Linn

ALERT: November Terri's Justice Dailies will be posted today?

Debating about who would have killed Terri better. Isn't it ludicrous? Terri was murdered. To argue that public servants would have killed her more or better is so outrageous. Poor Terri is gone and there's plenty of blame to go around.

The debates are like arguing over who the biggest bully on the block is. So juvenile. The crime of murder is UP in Florida. Why don't they do something about that instead of brag about how they would have killed Terri too..... Anyone with a conscience who has read the Constitution please run for office. Please.

The year 2003 and more decisively 2005 was a tough year for TERRI SCHINDLER SCHIAVO to be an American. It didn't do her any good.

So it's not a good time to be a Republican? That's small potatoes compared to what Terri and the Schindlers endured.

Putnam's the real deal. He's not a boomer. The boomers are too influenced by money and power. I'm so over most of them. They aspire to be like Bill Clinton which makes no sense whatsoever.

Is Terri America's first holocaust victim? Such unkind politicians keep attacking her and her only blunder was marrying the wrong guy.

She was disabled, not terminally ill in any sense of the word.

Be careful who you vote for and who you marry. Unless you are former Governor McGreevy and then you are going to marry your boyfriend.

What happened there was just 'anthropology' and he was just utilizing scientific material that was at his disposal. So George Felos like! =============================================================

The Nazis back then hid behind the scientific-sounding title of "anthropology." Today the new generation of Nazis hide behind the moralistic-sounding title of "bioethics."

Imagine being an anthropologist at Auschwitz. That's a little like being a baby sitter at an abortion clinic.
