They had a segment on the Senate bill on Lou Dobbs last night.

The Office of Budget Management estimates the Senate Bill will cost $126 BILLION over the next 10 years. After that, it becomes more expensive as the "new citizens" qualify for more benefits.

I agree with you in part, and disagree with you in part...

here is why I believe the HOUSE bill must go forward... we need "criminalize" illegal immigration so that LOCAL law enforcement can aid in the enforcement process..

I am NOT suggesting that we go out and "round up" all the known illegals in our community, which would not be all that difficult to do...

but when an illegal is arrested on other charges.. a FELONY "illegal immigration" charge should be added and processed appropriately...

in addition we need to LEGISLATIVELY prioritize border security and enforcement, we have the laws already to do so, but there is so much confusion and conflicting laws, that our system is UNmanageable....

The house bill will set the agenda, and put in place the vehicle to work the issue of illegal immigration effectively.. there are several court cases pending right now, and the USSC has already been ivolved in some of them... and to be honest I think the USSC punted the issue, waiting to see what kind of legislation congress comes up with.....

Employees of some companies who knowingly and willingly recruit and hire illegals are being sued under RICO laws and I think that is a great step in the right direction..

now congress needs to support these efforts and take the lead and give the courts the direction, and not the courts telling congress what to do... Please see Mohawk Industries v Shirley Williams [USSC Remands to 11th Circuit]

"Employees of some companies who knowingly and willingly recruit and hire illegals are being sued under RICO laws and I think that is a great step in the right direction."

This is paramount. At present, these companies are paying illegals far less than the going rate and no benefits. If the illegals or their dependents get sick, it's a trip to the emergency room that taxpayers pay for or the hospital eats.

which is precisely the reason we need the HOUSE bill.. the USSC is waiting to see what congress does.. in other words it is time for congress to do their constitutional duty and give the courts the guidance on how to proceed or we are back to square ONE... the courts telling congress what to do, and then congress complaining pointing the finger back at the courts... CALL SPEAKER HASTERT and tell him to don't miss this opportunity to LEAD !! ... FReepers must not let congress get away with the "punt" approach to the immigration debate

Under present circumstances, too much of what is good in the House bill will be watered down in a conference committee trying to mesh it with the Senate bill, while too many corrections of what is wrong with the Senate bill will be papered over with diplomatic language that reads one way to the public and another to the lawyers.

The ONLY way to go forward is with completely separate bills, with security and enforcement demands passed in their own bill, and passed before any consideration of the specifics of what to do next.

Only after that can revised immigration levels and anything else be considered - without the majority having to compromise on security, just to pass a bill. Only when we do not have to make compromises over security do we maintain the strength, in Congress to not make too many compromises over the rest.

There are no "RULES" that a conference report must contain a "compromise"... if we the people inform our elected officials that the HOUSE bill is what we want, then the conference will be a success.. but to avoid a conference is a punt, and that is unacceptable..

I appreciate your idealism, but please tell me when in the last six years that a majority of GOP Senators cared more about what the GOP base thinks than what the LameStreamMedia thinks. It has been far too infrequently and John McPain has more RINOs who will side with him than the moderates and conservatives who are willing to stick their neck out against McPain and his primary constituency - the media.

There is no hope for the security and enforcement mandates we seek unless the Senate is forced by the House to vote on them separately - making the Senators say they either want enforcement or not, and not getting away with diluting the enforcement provisions in conference.

The Senate's ear is not tuned to the people. They behave as did the imperial Roman Senate and look to, live by and seek support from the media more than people. They believe that as long as they have the media behind them, they can sell their positions in the next campaign. Only a revolt in the GOP primaries will dilute the RINO ranks enough to achieve the ideal GOP majority you expect to act for you now.

You seem to think that this is a "republican" issue.. you need only go to some of the liberal blogs to see that moderate democrats support the HOUSE bill as well... we need to stop making immigration a Liberal v Conservative debate.. this can't be further from the truth.. the FACT is that the MAJORITY of AMERICANS Republican and Democrat think that the HOUSE version is correct.... we lose a lot of power when we spin it as a Republican vs Democrat debate, which it is not.. here is a test.. CALL every congressman in your state and ask their staff if the congressman supports this bill going to conference.. you will find that they do.. but yet no conference...

The fact is that the Demorats in the Senate are even more turned off to the people at home than the RINOs in the Senate, with regard to immigration. They, and their friends in the media are not going to lift up the extent to which people back home in their own party are in favor of enforcement first. They are not going to support any local Dim organization on that point or give it internal or external discussion time. They know that as long as the media stays on their side (the Senate bill) they can tune out EVERYONE with a contrary view. They are not even allowing their House candidates to widely debate the issue in their own primaries.

Sorry, only the GOP in the House can obtain an enforcement first policy and only if adopting that policy first, on its own is the only option to getting anything else considered.

Unless grass roots Dims join Republicans, on the home front, and make a large enough joint movement and public push, does your idealism have any hope. I don't see that happening. They will continue to be diverted by the anti-war, hate Bush, bad-big-oil, type of political diversions that have kept them from looking deep enough to understand that the McPain-Kennedy "comprehensive" Senate bill is a fraud.

The War on Terror . . . with a little more firepower - Violence and tensions along the U.S.-Mexican border have never been higher, sparked by battles between rival drug lords and an increased flow of illegal migrants. To combat the threat, the United States has executed Operation Rampart: a controversial test base in Southern California run by Major Richter and TALON, his high-tech special operations unit.

I was incensed following this march locally

WHAT is the connection to the WOT? You tell me?!

The march, which begins Friday, will be peppered with rallies in Chicago's Chinatown and Little Villageneighborhoods as well as Cicero, Melrose Park, Villa Park, West Chicago and Batavia. Supporters can join marchers along the route or go the entire distance.
St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church in Cicero, the Islamic Foundation in Villa Park and St. Mary Catholic Church in West Chicago are providing overnight accommodations and meals. Local businesses have donated food."

40-Mile Immigration March Ends At Police Barricade Most Pariticpants Were Latino, But Marchers Came From Around The Globe-But the marchers did not go unchallenged in their journey. Opponents with the Illinois Minutemen were at several stops along the route.
“We're outraged at them. We've been outraged for years!” said Carl Segvich of the Chicago Minutemen Project.
Segvich said all illegal immigrants should be arrested and kicked out of the country.

Marchers demand Hastert act • Immigration reform: Two arrests mar boisterous rally - Counterdemonstration held
Critics of the pro-immigration groups began gathering early Monday. The anticipation grew, along with the crowd, when announcements were made that the marchers were just blocks away from their destination. Signs and flags were abundant.

4-day protest reaches end-Immigrant activists met by critics, not Hastert, in Batavia-Also on hand Monday were about 150 counter-protesters, including members of the Chicago Minuteman Project.
Emotion and name-calling were plentiful.Counter-protesters repeatedly yelled "Go home" and "March to Mexico" as the immigration march made its way down Wilson Street.
"Do you need a translation?" truck driver Paul Klein, 51, of Des Plaines screamed out. "Illegal is a crime."

Is Immigration reform off the table? We’ll tell you whether the
Republican leadership is abandoning the attempt to fix our
illegal immigration and border security crisis ahead of the
fall elections.

Mass immigration rallies are taking place in major cities
across the country. But as pro-immigration advocates march in
cities such as Chicago, Washington, Phoenix and Los Angeles,
they are facing a less friendly political climate in the
nation's capital. We'll have that report.

And we’ll be joined by former presidential candidate Patrick
Buchanan, who says illegal immigration is the greatest invasion
in history and charges the Mexican government of a deliberate
campaign to relieve its social pressures by dumping its poor
and unemployed into the United States. He will discuss his new
book, "State of Emergency: The Third World Invasion and
Conquest of America."

The president and Congress are focusing on national security as
the November elections looms. Yet the sleeper issue in this
midterm elections may well be the War on the Middle Class.
Wages for college-educated men and women are down over the past
five years, while college tuition, gas prices and housing costs
are up sharply. We'll have the latest update on the upcoming
elections.

Brad Meltzer, author of "The Book of Fate," joins us to talk
about how he's helping the Department of Homeland Security beat
terrorists at their own game.

Visit http://cnn.com/loudobbstonight for more on
tonight’s show.

It would be a huge plus if we had a president who would actually enforce the existing laws.

Unfortunately, we don't. He has encouraged millions more to come over that swiss cheese border, and has refused to do the right thing, even after 9/11/01.

If we elect more bought-and-paid-for globalists, expect more of the same, and worse.

They vote?! No biggie!

No signs of pro-immigrant voter boom - LOS ANGELES - During the spring protests that brought hundreds of thousands to the streets, Hispanic immigrants chanted a promise and a threat to politicians: "Today We March, Tomorrow We Vote." So far, however, there is no indication that such a potent political legacy is developing. An Associated Press review of voter registration figures from Chicago, Denver, Houston, Atlanta and other major urban areas that saw large rallies shows no sign of a historic new voter boom that could sway elections.

SHERIFFS NEED TO TAKE THE LEAD- It has come to my attention that Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has set up a militia to help deal with the increasing crime problems in his jurisdiction wrought by an ever increasing flood of illegal aliens. Sheriff Arpaio ought to be commended for his on going efforts in behalf of the law-abiding citizens of Maricopa County.

TOP MEXICAN DRUG KINGPIN NAILED BY COAST GUARD, DEA by Jim Kouri-The US Coast Guard, working closely with the DEA, apprehended Arellano-Felix and seven other adults in a recreational vessel on and arrived at the Coast Guard facility in San Diego, where they were taken into custody by the DEA and US Marshals. "For over a decade, the Arellano-Felix family dominated the Mexican drug trade and flooded our nation with hundreds of tons of cocaine and marijuana, and massive quantities of methamphetamine and heroin," said a high ranking DEA official.

Dear Fellow American,

I won't say it's inevitable -- nothing is. But if I were a gambling man, I wouldn't bet against it.

I'm speaking about a Democratic takeover of Congress in November -- considered almost a certainty in the House, and highly probable in the Senate.

Yet strangely, many conservatives seem resigned -- even indifferent -- to this looming disaster.

My name is Tom Winter, editor-in-chief of HUMAN EVENTS. I've been fighting for the conservative cause for over forty years. And frankly, I've never been so worried about the future of our movement -- and of our nation -- as I am today.

Don't get me wrong: I'm no robotic cheerleader for the GOP establishment. I've been a frequent critic of Republican leaders, including the President, and I understand the impulse to punish them for their missteps and their compromises of conservative principles, but I also know this:

For conservatives to stand idly by while liberals regain control of our government -- especially in the midst of a terror war -- would be a catastrophe from which America might never recover.

Just think: with Democrats back in charge of Congress, the bitterly partisan Harry Reid of Nevada would take over as Senate Majority Leader, while "San Francisco Socialist" Nancy Pelosi would become Speaker of the House. Both are committed to undoing the Bush tax cuts, and to restoring the Democratic model of tax-and-spend Big Government.

Then, "King of Pork" Robert C. Byrd (WV) would return as Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, while activist liberal Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont would be back in charge of the Senate Judiciary Committee, promising to block every Bush judicial nominee who threatens any part of his beloved liberal agenda.

It gets worse: Teddy Kennedy would take over the Senate's Health, Education and Labor Committee -- promising to "end health care as we know it" in favor of universal HillaryCare. Joseph Biden, as the new chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, would do everything he could to frustrate the President's prosecution of the War on Terror.

They could set us back decades

Worst of all, such a change would mean no more Supreme Court nominees like newly appointed Justices John Roberts and Sam Alito. Think of it: conservatives need only one more solid conservative to form a Supreme Court majority on such issues as abortion. But a Democratic victory in November would prevent that long-sought conservative goal from being realized -- possibly for decades.

We here at HUMAN EVENTS simply won't allow that to happen without a fight. But we need allies. We need smart, well-informed conservatives who appreciate what's at stake in this battle and can help us rally the conservative faithful to defeat the liberal Democratic onslaught in November.

In other words, we need you.
