HARRIS WINS REPUBLICAN NOMINATION
POISED TO DEFEAT BILL NELSON IN NOVEMBER
TAMPA, FL—Congresswoman Katherine Harris received the Republican nomination for United States Senate this evening, and celebrated her landslide victory at campaign headquarters with nearly a hundred grassroots supporters in attendance. Harris received the nomination by winning nearly every one of Florida’s 67 counties, demonstrating voters’ confidence in her leadership and ability to unseat Bill Nelson in November.
Congresswoman Harris states, “I am thankful for the widespread support demonstrated by tonight’s strong victory. I’m thankful for the personal sacrifices made by my family, staff and many dear friends who all united on my behalf because Florida deserves better than Bill Nelson. I don't know what is the matter with some Republicans and conservatives.
The demonrats were planning to recount their way to victory, stealing the election from Dub and putting Count Taxula's henchman Algore into the White House, and this woman stepped out right in front of that tank, held her hand up, and said "Not on my watch."
Far as I'm concerned she has more cojones than most of the so-called men in the Republican Party, and I just hope I have a chance to vote for her some day.
You picked the wrong (or right) person to ask. I know two people who work in polling, and a half hour with either of them will have you discounting ALL polls.
If there is a general direction of movement in numerous polls with FAIR questioning and sampling, it MAY indicate movement in the electorate, but that's the most I will give polls--as general indicators, over time.
Other than in the very specific conditions I mention above, polls are BS.

Isn't it ironic that all the people who scream "betrayal" at the first sign that a politician they voted for will sell them out for political expediency, are also the first ones to dump a courageous woman like her overboard for the same political expediency.
If we want our politicians to show loyalty to us, maybe we ought to start by displaying some ourselves.

I don't even understand why some Republicans think it expedient to stab her in the back.
They think "she can't win" because "she doesn't appeal to moderates and independents".

It happens because there's no "Undecided" category at the voting booth, and there is in political polls.
The poll you mention had 38% of respondents saying that they'd vote for Harris, and 24% being undecided.
If all the undecided folks stayed home on election day, or if they finally made up their minds and ended up voting in the same proportions as the proportions of the "decided" voters who answered the poll (the math works out the same either way), Harris would receive 38 / (100-24) = 50% of the votes. That's the same result as the 50% she actually got in the election, so the poll results were right on the money.
By the same token, that poll indicates that McBride should have gotten about 29% of the votes (22/76), and Collins should have gotten about 15% (11/76). I haven't seen the actual vote totals, is that reasonably close to what actually happened? If so, the poll was accurate.
I don't see how anyone could describe it as "so far removed from reality", unless one doesn't know what the numbers mean.

How do you think the next time something like 2000 comes up again (and it will, it almost happened in Ohio in 2004), a Republican Secretary of State is going to act knowing that his/her reward for standing firm is going to be a bunch of weak-kneed defeatists saying "we can't let him/her be our nominee because after 2000, all the angry Dems are going to be motivated to come out and vote against him/her"?
For my money's worth? I want my Republican nominee to be someone the Dems hated and are motivated to vote against. Because that's a sure sign we picked the right guy/gal.
What significance do you attach to the results from a single county? Her percentage statewide was considerably lower, 50%.

These polls are the real delicatessen for all the previous so called "intelligent FReeper" poll-freaks who for months daily "spoon fed" us with their "drive-by" L.S.M's propaganda and faked polls!
