Yeah, 'those kids' you are talking about are in their 30s and are the combat leaders in Iraq and Afghanistan....

I don't even know who Paris Hilton is. Is she the daughter of Conrad Hilton of Hilton Hotels?

American literature is replete with stories of explorers freezing or starving because they failed to provide for themselves. Which is no longer taught, nor read.

My just-turned 18 year old HAD been a conservative - just about the only one - all through high school, but then he got himself a vegan girlfriend. Now he thinks he's a lib. Sigh...hope it's just a phase...

You know, I don't think younger people are all that different. I'm thinking it's society that has changed so much. There literally is nothing to rebel against except morality.Given national the illegitimacy rate now, and the alarm a lower rate in the black community raised forty years ago, I'd say that rebelling against morality is pretty passe. But after all, FReepers are rebels. Rebels against the haughty, arrogant, antitraditionalist attitudes of journalism.

I bet shrinking family sizes also contribute to the change. I and my wife spend very much more time interacting with each of our TWO kids than my parents did interacting with each of their SIX children.
