While the Bush administration seeks amnesty for illegal aliens and grants immunity to a Mexican drug smuggler, it has thrown the book at two courageous Border Patrol agents. Fabens, Texas — The chase was on. The suspected smuggler van turned back toward the Rio Grande and headed for Mexico. Border Patrol agent Ignacio Ramos was on his tail. Other agents were also converging on the scene. The suspect realized he wasn't going to outrun agent Ramos' vehicle, and so he abandoned his van on a levee and took off on foot. As the suspect headed into the canal, Ramos yelled for him to stop but was ignored.
As Ramos crossed the canal, he heard gunshots. Ramos knew he was in an area where the Mexican drug cartels have grown increasingly brazen, and where Mexican police and military units often support the drug smugglers. He didn't know if, when he emerged from the canal, he would be facing an armed suspect, possibly reinforced by heavy firepower.
As he came over the levee, he could see a fellow officer, agent Jose Compean, bloodied and lying in the dirt. Sweating, heart pounding, and adrenaline pumping, Ramos raced by Compean after the smuggler, who was kicking up clouds of dust as he ran. Suddenly, the smuggler stopped and turned toward Ramos and pointed what appeared to be a gun. Agent Ramos raised his pistol and fired one shot, upon which the suspect spun around and continued running for the river. Ramos, with the danger passed, immediately lowered his pistol.
"I shot," Ramos later told reporter Sara A. Carter. "But I didn't think he was hit, because he kept running into the brush and then disappeared into it.

What You Can Do
In response to citizen outrage, Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, and Rep. John Hostettler (R-Ind.), a member of the House Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security and Claims, have called for a congressional investigation of the Ramos-Compean case. Petition efforts are underway calling upon President Bush to pardon agents Ramos and Compean.
The original sentencing date of August 22 for both men was postponed to September 7 for agent Compean and September 18 for agent Ramos. The U.S. government is asking Judge Cardone to sentence them to 20 years in prison.

Jorge Bush will offer these two no pardon
I featured this story on my blog a few weeks ago, it's still there. I even managed to attract a wandering moonbat who critized my 'extremist' reaction.
Apparently it's extremist to object to the DHS AG tracking down and granting immunity to a drug smuggling illegal alien. Who by the way after dumping his drug load, was only shot on US property while eluding the Border Patrol agents who very naturally thought he had a gun.
UFB. My point on my blog was that if you believe that our elected leaders are serious about solving the illegal invasion of our country, think again.

Also please note the names of the two Texas based Border Patrol agents: Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos. I doubt they'd be amused by the "Jorge Arbusto" business.

Sure, they weren't supposed to be pursuing the dudes, but the oh-so-political bosses bent on persecuting these officers presented this as a completely seperate violation.

Bush is every bit as committed to justice as Reagan. Bush is less patient (has to be), and Reagan was also better on camera.

Reagan blew it on Illegal immigration, too. His amnesty is the excuse and pattern for the Bush attempt.

Reagan did not have the luxury Bush has (to learn from history). Reagan didn't repeat the mistakes of Kennedy and Johnson (the Presidents 20 years before him).
Ahem...
Reagan had the example of Eisenhower to draw on. Eisenhower had a then severe illegal alien problem. He fixed it. He did not have any truck with any sort of "amnesty."
