Britain is a post-Christian nation, for all its beautiful cathedrals and long Christian history. The same could be said for the rest of Western Europe, even Ireland, which was solidly Catholic until a few decades ago. America is but a few years behind our European kinsmen on the path to unbelief. The demographics are evident: the G.I. Generation attended church less frequently than the Lost Generation. Baby Boomers attend church less frequently than the GI Generation. Generations X and Y in turn show declining commitment to church attendance or identification with the Christian faith. In 30 years, the megachurches in the suburbs will no longer exist or have shrunk back to the size of community churches.

Barring another Great Revival as in colonial times or the early years of the Republic, America will be post-Christian and the preaching of the Gospel will be restricted. Of course, these restriction will not affect Islam, Eastern religions, or New Age beliefs.

If (probably not when IMHO) that happens, ironically Christianity would have become an Eastern religion - in the Asian sense. Christianity is growing exponentially in the ultra-modern/postmodern East Asian countries, and China and much of Southeast Asia. Places like Singapore, Taipei, Hong Kong, Seoul, Bangkok, etc.

An interesting prospect - Christianity ended up in full circle - an Asian faith (the Jewish people from israel) becoming Asian once again.
