Students Not Excused From Transsexual's Class
The Indy Channel ^ | September 7, 2006 | AP

BATAVIA, N.Y. -- Five parents who asked to transfer their children out of Batavia High School classes with a transsexual teacher have been denied, according to city schools Superintendent Richard Stutzman.

The written requests did not meet the guidelines set out by the district, Stutzman said Tuesday without providing specifics.

"That's all between the school, the teacher, the parents," he said.

Other students were allowed to adjust their schedules because their requests were based on changes in their academic programs, Stutzman said.

Fall classes began Wednesday in Batavia, 31 miles southwest of Rochester.

Diagnosed with a transsexual disorder, the teacher is still going through a medical transition but returned to school dressed as a woman -- and addressed as a female.

Under state and federal laws, a person with a transsexual disorder is considered disabled, is protected from discrimination and must be reasonably accommodated by an employer.

The teacher will instruct about 100 students this year and was to make a "brief statement" at the start of class, then proceed with the course work, the superintendent said.

Among several students heading to school Wednesday, some said the situation was weird or awkward, while others said they didn't have a problem with it.

"If he wants to do it, then that's him," said senior Carissa Visalli, 17.

The district has conducted information meetings about the transsexual teacher for staff and parents

Yes, or private school. I hope those parents have the backbone to pull their kids out of that school.

Talk about having your cake and eating it too! Sexual perversions have become simultaneously "disorders" and benign differences sometimes found in normal people just like you and me.

You know when an institution or a cultural fad has "jumped the shark", when it becomes impossible to parody. I think the diversity fad/cult has reached that point. Ii is impossible to tell if this is true or a joke.

My wife home-schooled our kids for many years, building a firm foundation (academically and spiritually) for their later foray into public schools. They both finished high school well and are well adjusted young adults who love the Lord and test to see what is Truth.

On the web site of the TV station with this story, a poll asking parents "Would it bother you if your child's teacher was a transsexual?"

The results currently:

5513 votes - Yes, I would want my child in another class.
1622 votes - Yes, but I would not try to make them change classes.
3358 votes - No, a teacher is a teacher.
1969 votes - No, I'd appreciate their exposure to diversity.

Sad thing is, diversity does NOT equal strength. Unity does. Sand, gravel, water, and cement are not strong concrete unless mixed together - reminds me of a melting pot. What a great metaphor! Let's put that to use. Call the American society a "Melting Pot". To hell with diversity for its name sake.

My comment on parody is not to question whether this story is true or not true, the point is that it has become impossible to tell the difference. How could you parody, by which I mean mock by exaggeration, this idiotic situation? What semi plausible scenario could you use when such a thing as this is true?

And, sooner rather than later, he will be a mutilated male math teacher, with a pyschopathic fetish for female clothing. Ain't no "trans" about it, 'cause ain't no way, no how, he is not going to become a real woman, not in this life.

If this doesn't wake parents up, nothing will. So much for the schools accommodating the people who pay their salaries! Homeschooling is not daunting. Try it, parents, you and your children will like it!

Sometimes it's hard to tell who's serious and who's not.

The student body as it were wast told that there would be zero tolerance for chiding this, this, this,...the words to describe this escape me.

This thing needed to leave...have whatever work that he wanted to have done completed, and started fresh someplace where he didn't have a history. To subject the students, faculty, staff and parents to this obscenity is the most selfish thing this, this, THING could have ever done.

A man who thinks he is a woman is mentally ill - on a par with a man who thinks he is a walnut. No amount of surgery or clothing will change the fact.

Whether or not he's sufficiently disturbed to cause parents to keep their children away is the parent's decision, not the school's.

Shalom.

And I will guarantee you that had you done that in the high school I attended, you'd have been on suspension for as long as it took to make you stop.

That our schools will tolerate that sort of disobedience by students is a big part of the problem. Yes, the guy's wierd, but which of us did not have some wierd teachers?

The kids will get through this all just fine. The teacher's not a child molester...he's just a transsexual. Stupid, yes, but there it is.

Kids who torment him should be suspended. If they continue, they should be expelled.

Sad thing is, diversity does NOT equal strength.

What's interesting is that the name for our highest institutions of learning - university, comes from a concept that is the opposite of diversity. They were called universities because it was believed that there was one set of knowledge with different facets.

Now it seems there is no coherence at all in our education system. Is it any wonder that the products are incoherent?

Shalom.

That said, whether he's a threat to the children or not is a decision for the parents to make, not the school system.

My high school had old teachers that maintained a record of which class got a new teacher to quit in the fewest days.

My kid bothers class was 2nd all time (back in the 80s). They got a teacher to quit in two and a half days.

The all time record was from the 60s. That teacher did'nt make a day.

The worst I ever did was throw a string of fire crackers under a teachers desk. He must have cleared three feet when they started going off. That and I wrote 'You're Fired' all across the blackboard of a teacher who had'nt been told he was fired yet (we knew). He tried to flunk the whole class.

Memories.

"This guy's not wierd, he's delusional. He doesn't need a doctor hacking at his body parts, he needs a shrink.

"

Nah, he's just wierd. He teaches math. Need I say more?

Seriously, it's not going to be that big a deal, in the long term. The school can't fire him, legally, because he's not really doing anything illegal.

He's going to teach math to kids. They probably have teachers who are a lot more wierd that this guy.

It's just not worth the stress. I know what my father would have said, back in the early 1960s when I was in high school. He would have said, "OK, the guys strange as a three-dollar bill, but if I hear about you saying anything about him or harassing him, you're going to be sorry."

Should parents be able to remove their kids from his class? Sure, as long as it is feasible. In many cases, there's only one teacher for some math classes, so it may not be feasible.

After this school year, nobody will care.

Very nice. Had you been in my school, you'd have been expelled instantly for that little stunt. Apparently you think it's OK for kids to do stuff like that. I disagree.

Instead, I think your teacher should have had the right to grab you by your shirt collar, drag you out of the class and beat the crap out of you.

Smarta$$ punk kids who think it's amusing to terrorize teachers are right down there at the bottom of my list. There are way too many of them, and the schools aren't allowed to discipline them any more.

Yup, I wish you were in a class I was teaching and pulled a stunt like that...yes, indeed.

Seriously, it's not going to be that big a deal, in the long term.

It will be a big deal to him. He needed help and he got mutilated.

In the movie "Batman Begins" Bruce Wayne said, "Anyone who goes around dressed as a bat clearly has issues." Batman has issues and he's dangerous, but only to criminals. And, if he decides to, he can put his batsuit away.

Someone who actually has a doctor take a knife to his body because of his issues - well, do we really know what else is going on inside his head?

An effeminate man who doesn't try to pretend he's a woman, I'd agree with your dad. This guy is much more than that.
