If someone attacked your mother, would you be upset? Would you protest? Im sure you would.
Well, the Mother of God is grossly insulted by the University of Virginias student newspaper, The Cavalier Daily, which printed a Nativity-like cartoon of Our Lady holding the Infant Jesus beside Saint Joseph on August 24.
The figure depicting Saint Joseph says: "Mary I don't mean to ruin this special moment, but how did you get that bumpy rash? suggesting a sexually transmitted disease. To which a Mary-figure says, I swear, it was Immaculately Transmitted.
This is outrageous public blasphemy! Click here to protest now.

Sorry, its just not Breaking News.
How is this Breaking News, chief?
Is there an embassy somewhere we can set on fire because of this?
I don't care that these heathens are committing blasphemy, that is their soul. Not to mention the concept of free speech. Even as disgusting as I think the cartoon is.
God has a Mom? No, sorry.
Thanks for the info.
The brats are practicing for their future jobs in the media.
Jesus has a mom, and Jesus IS God.
He always was God, even before becoming human. Was she his Mother then?

"Jesus has a mom, and Jesus IS God."

With regard to Jesus' humanity, Mary is his mother. With regard to His deity, He is her Creator.
for some reason, the link did not highlight - see if it works now...

No, but if you deny Mary's title as "Mother of God," you deny Jesus' divinity, since He's fully God and full human, since the Incarnation.
Anyway, I saw Brit Hume do a segment on this (I guess he considered it news)and he mentioned that the paper also had a cartoon a while back that made fun of homosexuals and that they immediately pulled it and apologized but are refusing to do the same with this one.
True, but you must not deny that since the Incarnation, His divinity and humanity are inseparable. If you think this, then you make Jesus two beings, when He is one being with two natures.
You are like the Muslims in that you get all upset over an offense to your god in a far away place, giving it far more publicity that it otherwise would have had.
However, I applaud you for not calling for heads to be cut off. That is a BIG differentiator.
Well, that caught my attention: a genuine Theotokos/Christotokos debate on FR!
Jesus said, "before Abraham was, I am"... Question; the one that created Adam and Eve from the dust of the ground has a Mother?... Jesus existed long before Mary, Joseph OR Adam..
Suggest a re-think on this matter..
I'm not catholic but I do resent these little
Ivy league type cowards ridiculing Mary.
The usual liberal clap from Academia.
O.k. boys and girly men of UVa, try a little Mohammed bashing.
Naw, you won't because some angry Muslim may hurt you.
Hippocrits
Does that imply that you do not have a mom? Your reasoning would suggest so.
Jesus called Mary his mother many, many times. Are you saying Jesus lied? That Jesus didn't even have a mother? That the Bible is untrue when it says that Jesus was conceived in the womb of Mary? Some of you people are very, very confused.
Jesus as the WORD, is eternal. Jesus as the Incarnate Word of God is over 2,000 years old. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary. He is fully human and fully divine. If you do not concede that He has a mother, you deny His humanity.
I also think the joke's writer misunderstands the 'Immaculate Conception,' which is a mistake even common among Catholics.
While often thought to refer to the conception of Jesus, it is in fact the Roman Catholic concept that Mary was conceived without original sin.
Christians voice their protests but the consequences are nil.
The fact that a student newspaper can bash christianity is
so old.
The weekly assault on Christianity is very common and even
accepted as intelligent and scholarly among professors.
Don't try to compare the protest from Muslims on Mohammed and Christians in the same context.
I never see or hear Muslim bashing from the left in this country. There is a whole lot of material to work with but
why the silence?
Hey cut these guys a break, Jack Chick hasn't done a comic book on the Nestorian heresy yet!
In the flesh. ;-)

Jesus was NOT concieved in Marys Body.. he existed before that..
No... the human body of Jesus is not Jesus.. The Spirit of Jesus is Jesus.. As he tried to explain all his human life.. Jesus existed before a human body and exists now after he had one.. The message being.. YOU YOURSELF are much more than a human body also.. So be careful with this life, everyone lives forever.. EVERYONE... DNA is just flesh..
You must have missed that part(in scripture)..
My body has a father an earthy father, but so does my spirit have a father a heavenly father.. i.e. pray this way... "My Father who is in heaven...." like that.. you should know the verses of scripture.. The moral of the story "don't pray to your mother"... you're spirit does not have a mother..
Why not? You protest and boycott over things that offend your god, and so do the Muslims. You just don't kill anyone over it anymore.

You are taking this far away from anything I was saying.
Ah, you deny the full humanity of Jesus? Then you're a Docetist.
You have absolutely no clue what you are talking about. What about His Blood that was shed for our Salvation, was this not real either?
What then does this verse mean if Jesus was not human:
And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father's only Son, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)
What was the point of this "Spirit Jesus" masquerading as human on earth? If Jesus was not human, how does His death connect humanity to God?
If He was not one of us, how can He redeem us?
SD
No, that is wrong. Please read Luke 1:31.
the human body of Jesus is not Jesus.. The Spirit of Jesus is Jesus.. As he tried to explain all his human life.. Jesus existed before a human body and exists now after he had one..
Whether unintentional or not, you have just stated heresy. Jesus rose from the dead and ascended into heaven in his glorified body. Jesus still is true God and true man in one person.
The New Testament teaching on the person of Christ is summed up in the three ecumenical creeds: the Apostles', the Nicene, and the Athanasian. Read those and you won't go wrong.
Well, if God protests, let me know.
This is not news, this something to be concerned about within your own group of faithful breathren.
I'm not certain about the others, but as far as I know, teh Apostles' Creed is accepted not only by Catholics, but also all of the Protestant/Reformed denominations, at least the traditional ones (Lutheran, Calvinist, Anglican, etc.).
I concede his body has a mother.. but Jesus is NOT human....
You make a God of humanity.. thats of course Hinduism.. and to a lesser extent Buddism..
The Spirit of Jesus is one thing, his body is quite another..
The Body of Christ is a metaphor, a pregnant metaphor..
Suggest considering the ramifications of it...
The Spirit of Jesus(the Christ) is eternal his body was just a prop, much like yours is.. for YOU are a spirit too.. You're body will die and you will get another one.. just as Jesus did.. Flesh is flesh, and is fleshly...
That is true, but to infer that Mary had a sexually transmitted disease SHOULD be offensive to ALL Christians.
I'll worry about it when student newsparers do not lampoon hoary institutions.
If you are correct, then the Transfiguration, the Passion, His death, and His Resurrection were pointless. But you're dead wrong. His Body is more than a "prop." You're not just a docetist. You're a gnostic.
Ok, to those of you going back and forth on this thread on whether Jesus as God has a mother or not... do you really expect your opponent to say, "you know, you're right, I'm going to head right down to the Baptist/Catholic Church and sign up to become a Protestant/Catholic."
You're catechising each other. Not the most productive course for a discussion since you both presume the answer.
There's no ancient heresy under the sun that doesn't exist in some sect of modern-day protestantism.
