Half Ton of Bomb Material Stored a Few Miles from the White House (By ABC news team)
ABC News Blogs ^ | September 08, 2006 | Brian Ross and Rhonda Schwartz

Posted on 09/08/2006 5:28:21 PM PDT by indcons

With virtually no questions asked, an undercover ABC News team was able to purchase a half ton of one of the world's most dangerous bomb-making materials and move it into a storage shed only a few miles from the White House and the U.S. Capitol.

Despite its use in the bombing of the Oklahoma City Federal Building, there are still no federal laws restricting the purchase of ammonium nitrate, a chemical fertilizer, widely sold at farm supply stores.

The ABC News undercover team made the purchases, in cash, at farm supply stores in North Carolina and Virginia and were never once asked for any valid ID.

Legislation requiring buyers of ammonium nitrate to be registered by the federal government have been blocked by the agricultural industry, according to the Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, Congressman Pete King (R-NY).

The results of the ABC News investigation are "a wake-up call that the American people and the Congress needs," King said. A law requiring sellers to record purchases has passed King's committee and is awaiting a vote by the full House.

Brian Ross' full investigative report will air Monday on World News with Charles Gibson and as part of an ABC News Special Report on the fifth anniversary of 9/11. (10pm EST/9pm Central)

I would presume this moonbat/ABC staffer is against the Patriot Act, GWB version; so what is his point exactly? That what he is against is not tough enough??

"half ton of one of the world's most dangerous bomb-making materials" = ammonium nitrate".

OHMYGOODNESS, how will I ever explain all the nitrates in my chicken coop!
Non nuclear explosives are nothing more than combinations of fuel, and oxidizers. The only difference between a mess of chicken poop and a bomb is one of intent. Do a search on "guanadine nitrate", a really cool scientific term for seagull poop bomb making material. I reckon that goat poop will do as well.
The Southland fought most of the War of Northern Agression using nitrates mined from bat caves, and urban chamber pots. I am sure this gave my great grandma a great deal of pleasure, every time she took a leak! Worst cussword she ever uttered was "Carpetbagger"!

I'm surprised they had to buy any at all, they're all so full of it themselves.

Pure ammonium nitrate is hard to get most of it is 10-17%and the rest of bag is inert filler so without knowing exactly what they got if yard fertilizer big to do about not much.

This report consists of a lot of fertilizer, and I don't mean ammonium nitrate.

Hi I'm Brian Ross of ABC News and I'd like to buy some bomb making material to place near the White House as part of our 911 expose` of government security. Can you fill this list for me?

I don't doubt that is exactly what happened, he should be arrested for doing so since his intent was clear.

This is pretty sad that they were able to do this. There SHOULD be outrage. People in this forum are WAYYYYYY to easy to just take up for whoever. This needs to be investigated and there needs to be better safeguards.

It says the material is stored a few miles from the White House. Even the biggest non-nuclear bomb America has in it inventory is pretty much harmless from a "few miles" away.

Once again the press is trying to create news and they're looking pretty stupid in the process.

I wish they'd go back to blowing up pick-up trucks, it was way more entertaining.

H2O2 by the pint is mouthwash and not an oxidant - about as dangerous as H2O

My point was concerning the media hype over peroxide based explosives. The kind that were to be used in the recent UK plot.

This just makes it easier for authorities to seize it and move it over to the White House to fertilize the lawn.

Thanks ABC.
