New college program brings Saudis to U.S (or how stupid can we get?)

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Thousands of Saudi students are enrolling on college campuses across the United States this semester under a new educational exchange program brokered by President Bush and Saudi King Abdullah.

This will quintuple the number of Saudi students and scholars in the United States by the academic year's end. And big, public universities from Florida to Oregon are in a fierce competition for their tuition dollars...............

....Clark Kent Ervin, a former inspector general of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), said the U.S. government has yet to ensure proper safeguards are in place to do effective background checks on all applicants.......

"Not only are the students fully funded, but they're also paying out-of-state tuition."

Kansas State boosted efforts to court Saudi officials in the past year, flying administrators and department heads to the Saudi Embassy in Washington. It's paid off: Last month about 150 Saudi students started classes there, each funded to the tune of about $31,000......

"It's an opportunity to increase understanding of Saudi Arabia for the United States and of the United States for Saudi Arabia."

As Kansas State students enjoy a string of home football games this month, they also are preparing for the campus' first celebration of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month.

"We really want to make this special. We're going to truck in halal food from Kansas City,"

Mr. Holland said. "The Saudi government is trying to place the students in a variety of institutions across the country, but where you get the competitive advantage is how you treat the students when they get here."...........

"These 15,000 students will really jump-start education, and that will be a great addition to the kingdom," Mr. Goodman said. "At its base, it's about mutual understanding."

Is it just me, or is this the most stupid stunt since 9/11? "15,000 arab students across the US"..... are we asking for the next 9/11 from within?

Good that 9/11 bombers came from Iraq, Syria and Iran and not from Saudi Arabia.

Colleges do it for the money, pure and simple. They would like us to think that they are above that, but in reality they are all scrambling for the money.

Are you being sarcastic? I assume so since 19 out of 20 came from Saudi Arabia.

Not one effort has been made to stop the Saudis from teaching
their people to murder Americans, Christians and Jews (pigs and monkeys in Saudiese).

They murdered 3000 Americans per hour on 911 and NOTHING has been done
except to encourage their funding of American madras.

what they are asking for is students who pay full-tuition.

a good example of 'follow the money,' or 'we'll sell them the rope they hang us with,' etc.

Seems to me it is the liberal universities who are spearheading this.

Afterall someone has to pay for their cushy jobs and wood paneled offices.

We have elected the most naive president since Jimmy Carter.

Liberals are like this, though. Carter thought if you were nice to terrorist nations, and try to show you understand them, they would be nice to you. Madalyn Halfwit thought the same thing. As does Bush.

You see, it's our fault. We don't *understand* them. And that's on us.

This is international version of the "New Tone."

And it will be every bit as effective.

Come on, 9/11 bombers could not be our allies! They must have come from the axis of evil - Iran, Syria, Iraq and North Korea. There is plenty of evidence - secret metting in Prague/Bohemia and key terrorist having his leg amputated in Baghdad hospital.

Where was the NEA and other teachers associations on this one - where was the State Department - multicultural has only served to Balkanize not unite.

Call your elected and complain loudly....keep the heat on them - don't assume this was a Bush decision.

Nonsense. We would have attacked Saudi Arabia if that were true. Obviously, it was the Iraqis who did this.

Actually like I said before it is probably the universities who are begging for the saudi money.

Why let them off the hook. It is they who are taking the money to pad their cushy jobs.

Nothing like dual Engineering/Islamic Studies degrees from American universities to help the well-rounded terrorist get ahead in life... Heck, Khalid Sheik Muhammed took his mechnical engineering degree from the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in 1986, and look where he ended up.

Osama made sure that Saudis were picked for the attack. AlQaida was big enough it could have manned the operation from any one of about 50 different countries.

Since Osama's primary enemy is the Saudi royal family it may safely be presumed he thought the United States would be distracted by this fact (19 out of 20) and attack Saudi thereby accomplishing part of his ultimate ambition.

Which leads me to a question? Who do you work for?
