John Murtha uses 9/11 to brag about pork
John Murtha Campaign site ^

Posted on 09/11/2006 8:23:18 AM PDT by xpertskir

John Murtha is using the 5 year anniversary of 9/11 to brag about his abilities to throw pork at any problem that comes his way. Instead of offering a solemn note of remembrance, he has instead decided to generate a list of all the monies he has directed to the Flight 93 memorial(located in his district). This proves one thing, not only has John Murtha forgotten about exactly what happened on the fateful day 5 years ago, he has also neglected to realize how it has changed the world. I guess it wasn’t enough to use thousands of dead U.S. soldiers and Iraqi’s to help catapult him to a position of power within his party. He now needs to use the thousands of innocent citizens killed on 9/11 to brag about his abilities to “bring home the bacon.” You would think someone who served in the Marines and represented this country in U.S. Congress for over 3 decades would have some class. Unfortunately Murtha’s continuing lack of class is evident. Not only does he not understand the war we are fighting, he trivializes every sacrifice made each time he opens his mouth. This man truly makes my stomach turn.

"Below is a brief list of those efforts:"

So we're talking close to $16 MILLION dollars for some maple trees and a set of bells? ;)

Oops! I forgot the heavy duty guy wires to keep said bells from falling over during those Somerset County winters. ;) Yup, that must be what costs so much. :P

Laurence Pelosi, nephew of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, at the time was an executive of the company which owned the rights to the land.

The same article also reported how Mr. Murtha has been behind millions of dollars worth of earmarks in defense appropriations bills that went to companies owned by the children of fellow Pennsylvania Democrat, Rep. Paul Kanjorski.

Funny how no one ever comments on this for as often as it has been posted.

Just A Nobody ,

I agree.

This seems to be useful information on how Nancy Pelosi and her nephew...

Plus Murtha...

Plus Democrat Paul Kanjorski...

From Chronwatch

Those veterans in Pennsylvania who plan to vote against incumbent Democrat Representative John Murtha fill many pages on the Internet. Few have any kind words for the retired Marine reservist.

“I’m ashamed to recognize Jack Murtha as a fellow Vietnam veteran,” says Bill Comrey. “My youngest brother is a sergeant major in the Pennsylvania National Guard and he is in Iraq at this time. He and his fellow troops need full support.” Comrey plans to vote for challenger Diana Irey.

Another voice out of Pennsylvania is that of Charles D. Watterson III. “As a U.S. Marine Gulf War and Somalia veteran, I stand behind anyone that will stand up to the likes of John Murtha. As a Marine himself, he should be ashamed of what he has accused our Marine brothers of doing. I consider him nothing less than a traitor to my beloved Marine Corps.”

The "professor" made some very good points. However, it is difficult to take a "professor" seriously that has no reading comprehension. To make a statement like this:

While [despite the clamor of many on the Right] candidate Kerry is not guilty of constitutional/criminal treason,

after reading the Constitution, is parading one's ignorance for all to see.

Amendment XIV
Section 3. No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any state legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any state, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.

Shanksville is no longer in Murtha's district. Its in Shuster's. I attended the memorial service yesterday and had VIP tent passes for flight 93.. Attending were Rick Santorum, Arlen Spector, Tom Ridge, Gen Tommy Franks, Congressman Shuster, Governer Rendell, but... no mr murtha.

Many dignitaries were thanked by the Chairman of The Families of Flight 93.. Mr Murtha was never mentioned a single time. He was not there nor was any of his staff..
I would think that if jack had done so much they would have at least mentioned him.. Oh by the way

Diana was there along with some of her staff..

Thank you for attending and God bless Diana for being there as well. I am sure it was difficult for you.

Did Shanksville use to be in the 12th???

Thank you for being there and for your report,Kilo.

Somehow it doesn't surprise me that Diana Irey was there and Murtha nor any of his staff were not.

"I've lost track.....will the site still be a tribute to the islamofacists or has it changed significantly?"

Well the last I'd heard, they'd decided to make it a circle of trees, rather than a crescent, but then I happened on this in today's paper:

Lunch Launches Memorial Drive
(large picture of Paul Murdock in front of a very fuzzy picture - I can vaguely make out two trees ;)
caption underneath, in very small print, reads:

"Paul Murdock, president of Paul Murdock Architects of Los Angeles, which designed the entry chosen for the Flight 93 National Memorial(in background), attends a luncheon Tuesday in the Frank J. Pasquerilla Conference Center, 301 Napoleon St., Johnstown. The event kicked off the Johnstown Campaign Committee's drive for corporate contributors to the memorial in Shanksville. The committee has collected about $100,000 of its' $250,000 goal. About $30 million in private funds is needed for the $60 million dollar project."

$60 MILLION???? "Corporate contributors"???? Good grief!!

IIRC, they pulled a "slight of hand" in making the trees come around a "little" further so it wasn't an obvious crescent. I think all the other stuff stayed the same.

$60 mil indeed! I think the "peoples" tribute of hay bales, flowers etc. is beautiful and heartfelt.

Hence the *need* for "security"? ;)

"$60 mil indeed!"

Do you get the feeling someone's being had? ;)

" I think the "peoples" tribute of hay bales, flowers etc. is beautiful and heartfelt."

I agree and it's a good thing that it is beautiful just the way it is, given that I've yet to see any mention made of a completion date for this "project". :(
