I don't think the American people take her seriously and a hard news anchor. That is, if anyone still watches the nightly news anymore.

IIRC, Schieffer pretty much held serve as the top show. So we can infer his ratings were better (although I don't have the numbers at my fingertips).

We should start a couple of pools.

How long will she keep the sole anchor slot?

How many millions will CBS pay to buy out her contract?

When she becomes a roving reporter, will they assign her to Outer Mongolia or Inner Mongolia?

When Kaite's contract is up and she asks for a raise I think CBS should borrow a line from Branch Rickey who said it best to Ralph Kiner:

"We finished last with you and we can finish last without you."

Bob was a thousand times better than Katie... I don't know what the hell the people at CBS were thinking...

Take a person whos made a career being a perky puff piece... and put her in the anchor chair... then continue bias reporting that got you in trouble in the first place and turn the show into even more fluff....

CBS just refuses to admit its problems. Bob was doing well in the chair, and if the powers that be had a clue they would have worked at even handed reporting and stopped making sure every time they did a story no matter what it was... going out and finding the 1 person who objected to to it no matter how insane they were and giving that view point "equal time" as though some sole nuts opinion weighs as much as the lifetime pros in the area of interest being reported on.

A report on ANWAR and the economic effects it would have to drill there on the Innuit doesn't need to have 1/3 of the time dedicated to stupid envirowackos claims of a pipeline ruining the land.....

etc etc etc...

I stand by my offer CBS.. give me complete control of your news division for 6 months.. I'll work for $1 and if you ratings aren't equal or higher than they are now, I'll walk... if they are though, I want $20 Mill on the spot. YOu have to give me complete autonomy.. hiring, firing, editorial etc etc etc... No undermining, no backstabbing.... etc.

They'll keep her in the anchor slot for at least a year. If her ratings don't improve, they just won't renew. Is her contract a one or multi year contract?

Network news is dead

I remember Couric back in 2000, and I was watching NBC coverage late into the night. And when it was announced they were giving FL officially to Bush she threw a tantrum in front of Brokaw, and she said something like "that is premature." I am sure some of you remember that.

Is Katie Colon the "editor" of her news broadcast? Is she responsible for the stories that are covered or is she just the "news reader"? What she considers news is fluff. She is ruining CBS news. She does not have the "bones" to give the broadcast gravitas.

"If you ask what makes Katie different from Brian and Charlie, it isn't that she's smarter or more experienced. I happen to think both of them are terrific. It's that she IS different. And that has everything to do with her being a woman, although certainly not every woman is Katie Couric. And it's refreshing, a change, a real addition to the evening choices because she is there, which is one of the strengths of diversity, and of changing the status quo."

This absolute drivel is from one of Susan Estrich's recent
postings on another website.... total diversity dreck.....!!
About the only thing(s) Perky Katie has going for her
are her legs; other than that, well, call me a sexist, but
I think there are a lot of other and better folks out there
that the Communist Broadcasting System could have chosen
for that evening "news" anchor slot.... and most of them
were men, too......... keep tuned; the
charges of "sexist pigs" is soon to be heard.....

The anchor traditionally has the title of Managing Editor also. Whoever has that title has final say on what is aired.

Agreed.

I liked Schieffer.

I rarely watch his nightly newscast, but that's because they overdosed on liberal propaganda. Had they just dialed back their partisanship and kept him in the anchor chair, I'd have watched fairly regularly.

Katie's a lightweight that CBS thinks has enough star power to lift its network. No, people like the chemistry between Katie & Matt and were accustomed to watching Today. Plus she used to be more perky then bitter. Well, she doesn't have the Today show. She doesn't have Matt. She's no longer perky, and her legs don't really belong on Nightly news.

So what's left is an aging Leftist that offers nothing distinct from the other two networks.

What the networks and Couric don't undertand is that people don't like their left wing rants and liberal bias.

They will remain #3 and the total viewership will continue to drop.
