Dems accuse Bush over 9/11 speech
Herald Sun ^ | 13 September 2006 | Joanne Kenen

TOP Democrats have accused US President George W. Bush of exploiting the September 11 anniversary to boost his faltering Iraq war policy and asked TV networks to give them balancing coverage in future.

"Until now, there has been a complete absence of balance in the news coverage of national security issues," Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi wrote in a letter to the main networks as both parties jockeyed for position in the November 7 congressional elections.

"We ask that you commit your network to providing fair and equitable coverage to the viewpoints of both Republicans and Democrats," the two Democratic leaders wrote.

Democrats said Mr Bush should have tried to recapture a spirit of national unity in his televised Oval Office on Monday, but instead sought to score political points and boost his party's sagging approval ratings.

Senator Reid said Democrats had been so confident the Republican Bush would be non-partisan that they had not sought equal time on television to offer their party's response.

"Sadly, it was a missed opportunity for President Bush, who apparently was more consumed by staying the course in Iraq and playing election year politics," Senator Reid said, accusing Mr Bush of once again trying to "conflate and blur the war in Iraq with the response to 9/11".

Representative Pelosi said: "The American people deserved an opportunity to grieve and come together as a nation last night. Instead President Bush gave them partisan and inaccurate rhetoric."

I don't get it.

He's making a speech about one of the biggest events in the war -- but the democrat party hacks don't want him to talk about the war?

Yes...only democrat opinions and policies are to be shared with the public. The PRESIDENT is NOT ALLOWED to discuss his foreign policy with/to the people. (Well, when the president is a republican, then he is not allowed to speak of his policies to the people). Democrats are for censorship.

When that kid told Harry Reid "I want to grow up to be like you," I think Harry's hearing aid must've been off.

What he REALLy said was "I used to be like you, then I grew up."

The article said -- "Democrats said Mr Bush should have tried to recapture a spirit of national unity in his televised Oval Office on Monday, but instead sought to score political points and boost his party's sagging approval ratings."

Apparently, to the Democrats, "national unity" means not winning the war against Islamic fascists. To them, this is the only basis for national unity -- under the sword of Islam.

Hey SENATOR REID, it's PRESIDENT BUSH, not "Mr. Bush". I know HE'S earned that title.

Top RATS' brainless kneejerk reaction is always to criticize/oppose whatever Bush says/does.

Had he said nothing, they would have bitched about that.
Had he talked about anything else, they would have bitched about that.

We've got to defeat these scum come November.

I don't get it.

It's all the Dem's got. They can't mount an effective response on points. They can't offer workable alternatives. But they NEED to get back into power. So they work to create the perception that the President is a jerk by falsely accusing him of "politicizing" a national tragedy.

Clinton used Columbine and the Oklahoma City bombings to push his agenda for Gun Control.

Note to ABC. You brought this on yourself.

When you deal with Democrats or Terrorists, if you give in on one point, they will immediately ask for something more.

Not to say that Democrats are Terrorists, of course. Far from it. They just happen to share this once thing in common.

Can you imagine how the Dimms would be whining if the President had NOT mentioned the war in Iraq?

Insanity, thy name is "liberal".

For them, everything is about political calculation. These people are so consumed by hatred for President Bush they can't see what's in front of them. Its all about THEM. They can't stand it someone can speak intelligently to the country and they're left having to scream louder just to be heard.

(No more Olmert! No more Kadima! No more Oslo! )

Does either Reid or Pelosi have anything postive to say? I have yet to read anything postive from either.

He's the President. He's supposed to set forth what the nation's policy is. He's supposed to rally the country. If it wasn't for the Democrats trying to make political capital, maybe we'd be making a lot more progress. But the Democrats would rather use this situation for their political advantage.
