Police: Man Shoots Teens Trying To Rob His Store (WI)
The Milwaukee Channel ^ | September 12, 2006 | Staff

Posted on 09/12/2006 9:45:24 PM PDT by DaveLoneRanger

MILWAUKEE -- Police said a storeowner shot and killed one of two teenagers he said was trying to rob his Milwaukee store.

Singh and his wife, Devinder Singh live above the store at 31st Street and Glendale Avenue.

They said they heard noises around 1:30 a.m. Monday.

Police said the 51-year-old took his gun, went downstairs and shot at the two teenagers, ages 17 and 18.

The 18-year-old later died.

Singh was taken into police custody, but was later released.

Monday, his wife defended his actions.

"In this United States, we have the right to live our life, and we are not criminal. We are working 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. My husband he drives a semi. He works more than me. So we have the right, and we have the right to kill if someone comes on my property like that," Devinder Singh said.

Singh is scheduled to meet with the district attorney Thursday to determine whether the shooting was justified.

At least the headline was normal. Usually we'll see something totally wacked like, "Teens Murdered During Robbery".

Not only that but did you notice the name? Mister Singh might be second generation or more--I don't know. But it occurred to me in a convenience store the other day how some nationalities have come to America, started businesses that benefited all as they increased their own wealth, never insisted that everyone learn their native language and are not part of a crime wave. Too bad our noble criminal immigrants from south 'o the border don't get this.

I wish him and his family well.

Uh, let's see, perpetrators trespassing and possibly harboring ill intentions. Yep, I'd say it was justifiable.

I agree but make sure hubby says he feared for his life when he talks to the DA.

Actually, 99% do get this, and many are second- or third-generation immigrants.

1% of 11 million is a very large number tho....

If everyone knew they may get shot committing a robbery or burglary, rape or whatever crossed their twisted mind, crime would go way down.

Very few self-defense shootings are prosecuted as crimes in Milwaukee. Generally, even weapons violations are excused if the shooter has an otherwise clean record and the shooting was justified.

An Arkansas CCW holder was released after shooting a mugger at a gas station even though he was violating Wisconsin law by carrying a loaded weapon in his van.

Unless there is evidence that this was a bad shoot, Singh should be safe from criminal charges. If he shot an unarmed burglar in the back, that's another story.

Fortunately, he's probably not, with the name of Singh (sorry if I am stereotyping), going to be found a perpetrator. But if he were a WASP, his arrest would be a done deal!

If the DA is a scumbag Democrat, Mr. Singh might be in trouble. He better have a good story. Personally, I would simply claim that the thug yelled, "I have a gun and I'm going to kill you!" Everybody can shake hands and walk away.

There are no second or third generation American immigrants; they would be American citizens and natives. The 11 (or 12) million are first generation, and illegal.

You are stereotyping--both ways: figuring that he will be freed because he is not of European extraction, and that he would be jailed if he were.

Do you not see the extreme similarities between your comment (and the comments of many freepers) and those made by people of African descent that the [European] man is holding them back? Both demonstrate a degree of paranoia.

Using a term that inplicitly puts an 18-year-old likely serial criminal in the same category as a 13-year-old who spends most of his free time playing his Playstation is intellectually dishonest. It isn't "neutral" at all.

Perhaps we are sensitive, because one of the things we have seen the gun-grabbers here do, is hype firearms death statistics for "children". When you dig into the details, you find that "children" is defined as anyone under 20. When you dig further, you find that almost all of the deaths in this category are in the 15-19 range, and are gangbangers. The number of firearms deaths of real innocents in th under-20 age range is statistically darn near zero (though obviously tragic for the families involved).

Is lumping a 17-year-old gangbanger dead in a turf war, with a 10 year old kid dead from mishandling an improperly stored firearm in a home, by calling them both "childred", "perfectly accurate and neutral?" Or is it misusing language to evoke an emotional reaction? "OH! THE CHILDREN! SOMETHING MUST BE DONE ABOUT THESE EEEEVIL FIREARMS!"

I think you get my drift. The example here is the same sort of thing, just less-blatant. Why not "young adult"? There are significant legal differences at 18 here, for instance. If this is ruled "a good shoot", the accomplice could be charged with murder, for instance, and would be tried in the adult justice system, and not the juvenile justice system that applies to most "teenagers".

[I'm going to take a wild guess and say that the Singhs are Sikh immigrants from India (from the Punjab?) who speak proper English natively and have at least a high school education and that the perps are African American high school dropouts who speak only "Ebonics."]

That seems prejudice and racist. On what logic, facts and statistics do you base your presumptions that the perps were African American? Ain't nutin but bling dat bonics. You cold to be up like dat. You gonna git dat grill popped wit dat chat.

17 & 18, well the 18 year old is old enough to vote and join the military, that is an adult (even if they act like a 13 year old jerk-off)...

Conscript the 17 year old, some time in the military will sort them out.

The man was traveling. He got lost and ended up in a gas station in the worst part of Milwaukee. He had an Arkansas CCW, but the permit isn't valid in Wisconsin. I brought up the permit because it showed that he was a law-abiding citizen.

There is no legal concealed carry in Wisconsin. It is also illegal in Wisconsin to have a loaded weapon in your vehicle.

Despite violating Wisconsin's absurd weapons laws, he wasn't charged once the shooting was determined to be self defense. That isn't the case in places like Illinois or New York City.

Hundreds of Korean stores were burned and looted.
A FEW were saved by armed owners and their families.
Property losses were in the tens of millions.
