US refused to kill 190 Taliban at funeral
Fox News | 9/13/06

Posted on 09/13/2006 6:13:58 AM PDT by pabianice

Haven't seen this posted yet. Fox is reporting that recently one of our UAVs filmed in live time a Taliban funeral in Afghanistan at which 190 Taliban leaders were shown lined-up in ranks. Fox is showing the photo and reporting that US policy forbids the killing of Taliban in cemetaries and thus the US watched the funeral but took no action to kill the 190 murderers attending. If this is true -- tough question here -- how is Bush any better than Clinton regarding the war on terror?

The leftists from Human Watch (on O'Reilly last night) are also claiming that we are torturing detainees by making them sit in a cold room and blaring the Red Hot Chili Peppers music. I don't know about the rest of you but my house is at a constant 70 degrees and I have an 18 yr old son who just bought the new Chili Peppers CD, Stadium Arcadium. I am being tortured. It's GW's fault.

Re: AC-130s: To be fair, a C-130 has a high cruise speed of 330 knots. It would have taken several hours to launch them and get them to the site of the funeral.

Our enemies know our laws better than we do and use them to their benefit. Thanks to, and we know all their names, the terrorists manipulate our political divison in this country and use it to their advantage. Our enemies do not have to remind the world about the ugly Americans, the liberals in this country do it for them. Be assured that Nancy Pelosi will be out there screaming about this event, but then again, she would have been screaming if we would have dropped a bomb on the funeral. If the democrats would have shown complete support of this President and war, it would have been over before it started. They need to be prosecuted for treason.

Because a civilized society doesn't just kill for no reason. Period. Grow up.

The USSC just ruled they have the protections in the Hamdi Case. It's not who isn't joined in the Geneva Convention, it's who is that the USSC ruled against and that's us. All we have to do is divorce ourselves from the treaty but I don't know how one gets out of a treaty once they sign other than doing it the way Russia and China does it, ignore it.

Why didn't we just get them after the funeral?

I find it hard to believe that this happened. They may very well have been Talis at a funeral but I would have to go on the assumption that intelligence was aware that there were no "big fish" in the crowd. The "Big Fish" are not going to be hanging around in large crowds at Taliban funerals. Now, if they had picked up the crowd following a towering guy dressed in white and surrounded by guards, I don't think they would have hesitated.

Reminds me of "Saving Private Ryan" when they let the German soldier go.

Killing known terrorists when you can is hardly "no reason." Get with the program.

"Similar results, with two different means...sounds relative."

Occasionally similar results. One instance doesn't make a trend.

To argue that Clinton would of obtained the same results in total that Bush has would be silly.

If we don't play by our rules - why fight people willing to bring our rules down ?

Because they don't care about our rules, they aren't trying to bring our rules down, they just want us all DEAD. Sorry if I don't feel like obliging them. And I am growing tired of our military being held to standards that they themselves are not afforded.

If I was still in I would have authorized the strike and just took the consequences but now days we have a bunch of bureaucratic wimpy commanders that are more interested in being politically correct than to see a positive outcome.

No, but one instance does make it relative...

One would think that Robert S. McNamara was in charge of our war effort.

You can ask if Bush is doing enough, but you can't seriously ask if Bush is no different from Clinton, can you?

Clinton had no problem with bombing Orthodox Serbs on their Easter.

If we spot UBL at a funeral, will we offer him the same courtesy? Unbelievable!

There is a difference between this and Berger's dealings, one's at a funeral and one wasn't.

Don't cops stake out funerals here in the U.S. to nab suspects? Seems that I have read several stories to that effect. The cops arrest the suspect when they leave the burial.

Does anyone else see the stupidity and inefficiency of this policy? Why not kill them in cemetaries? Would save the effort in transporting them there later on.

President Bush doesn't sit at the controls of every aspect of this war.
I would think this incident was more of a failure to communicate with the generals or other command structures.
I guess there is no reason not to Blaine everything on the president.
Posted a lot here at FR, "It's Bush's fault"
I would bet the president is as P*ssed as everyone else.
