"I don't agree with this article. In years past, signage in America was never put up in two languages like it is today. just visit a Loews and other stores where English and Spanish signs direct the customer."
I have never seen such a thing and better not, otherwise Loews shoppers would witness a scene like none other.

Comparing the relatively small number of Latin American Immigrants that were assimilated into our society, along with other ethnic groups, in the past with the current huge onslaught of illegal Mexican and Latin American aliens, many of whom shun assimilation, is ludicrous.
Exactly. Here in southern California, they don't want to assimilate and with the government's help, don't need to. There is a huge difference between legal immigrants and illegal aliens. The legal immigrants come here to make the U.S. their home and they do learn English and assimilate. The illegals still think of their homeland as their home, don't want to learn English, and don't take a loyalty oath to the U.S.
Here I've met 3rd generation decendants of illegals that speak English with a Spanish accent (they only learned English in our taxpayer-funded schools) and love Mexico like it was the Garden of Eden.

"Based on an analysis of language loss over the generations, the study concludes that English has never been seriously threatened as the dominant language in America, nor is it under threat today, the researchers said."

Well history bears this out a good bit. I see that especially with the Cajuns.

Yes, if Mexico was the garden of Eden, then why come here? It's for the freebees our libs give them.

History doesn't show what happens with massive groups of illegals invading, along with the goverment and businesses providing all information in the illegals' language. Enough time hasn't passed to see what the subsequent generations will be like.
Based on the 2 border states I've lived in, I'd say there will be no assimilation and English will be a 2nd language for seveal generations to come. The mindset of illegals is vastly different from that of legals, who take a loyalty oath and come here to make a home for themselves. The illegals are loyal to their home country - as are their decendants - and come here only to take advantage.

The language issue is largely a fraud, displacement anxiety in a nation that can't talk about race and culture. It's unlikely that Spanish will replace English anywhere in the country, although if the borders are kept open it COULD happen. The present level of immigrants speaking one language other than English is unprecedented in U.S. history and comparisons to the past may not be valid.

One big problem for foreigners, is that in big cities, the immigrants that only speak Spanish go to the same school. Few if any students speak English at school and the parents speak only Spanish at home. Thus the kids are exposed to very little English. As a result when the kids go to junior high, many do not speak English well and are probably destined for low paying jobs like their parents. In past generations immigrant's children were generally enrolled in schools where most children only spoke English so the kid picked it up easily. Time will tell if the current crop of immigrants will learn English as well as the previous groups.

It's for the freebees our libs give them. Right. End welfare - end immigration.

They love Mexico, yet they refuse to stay and 'work hard' to fix the problems there. Why? Because those so-called 'hard working' illegals find it easier to cross the border, creating mexican ghettos everywhere they go.

Exactly. Our forefathers didn't go sneak into another country when they were being oppressed by the British. They fought for and created a wonderful country. That should be the example the illegals follow, not one of taking, taking, taking. (But - to be fair, the education level of the illegals is so low, they probably don't understand a lot of complex issues. Which is another reason why we need legal immigrants from all over the world with different skills and abilities.)

They think we're stupid and can't read so won't notice all those signs in Spanish. So who should we believe, them or our lyin' eyes?

Well there you go. The plan is to have a part of society that has voting rights but can not speak the same language the candidate uses to inform the voter of his platform. Charles Dingle, do I hear you in here some where? Hillary is that you?
