Large Gift Given To Governor's 7-Year-Old Daughter
(CBS) CHICAGO -- Governor Blagojevich is talking for the first time about that $1500 birthday check for his daughter, written by his former campaign treasurer.
CBS 2 Political Editor Mike Flannery reports the giver is not talking.
When we went to his office today, we were unable to speak to Michael Ascaridis. No one answered at the Ascaridis family home, either.
A friend since childhood of Rod Blagojevich, Ascaridis and his wife were reportedly questioned by the FBI about a check for $1500. Mike Ascaridis wrote it in 2003 to then 7-year-old Amy Blagojevich, about two weeks after state hiring rules were apparently violated to give his wife Beverly a $45,000-a-year state job.
The Chicago Tribune said Beverly Ascaridis only learned recently of the $1500 check, found it strange and reported it to the feds.
It's now a campaign issue.
“Tell us why it wasn't reported. Tell us if it has something to do with this alleged job buying,” said Republican candidate for Governor Judy Baar Topinka.
“I don't blame her for raising these kinds of issue and trying to play partisan politics with something, but again, I would simply say those are the facts,” said Gov. Blagojevich. “Every disclosure law was complied with.”
only $1500? that guy was cheap, and he did it by check!!!
the age of computerized banking must be hell for good ol boy politicians.
So it took to the last paragraph of the story to find out he was a Democrat.
If it is the other way around it is; "Republican Governor...."
watch for this to drop. Flannery is a big time lib and will soon get his marching orders.
