TEHRAN, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Iran denounced Pope Benedict XVI on Saturday for his recent comments on Islam and requested a apology, the official IRNA news agency reported
The pope's remarks were "contradictory to his status as the leader of one of the world's divine faiths," Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini was quoted as saying.
The remarks made by the pope, "emanate from political interpretations and are contrary to the divine notions, we consider it's a big mistake... and we condemn them," he added
"In order to prevent the indignation of the Muslim's world, the Pope should reconsider and correct his comments," the spokesman stressed.
Ahmad Khatami, a leading Iranian cleric talking to worshippers at the main weekly prayers in Tehran on Friday, also criticized that "it is a pity that the leader of the world's Christians is so uninformed about Islam and speaks so rudely."In a speech at Regensburg University in Germany on Tuesday, Pope Benedict XVI quoted a 14th-century Christian emperor who said the Prophet Muhammad had brought the world only "evil and inhuman" things.

That's a good sign. Like what the Nazi's would have said if the Pope would have criticized them for exterminating Jews.
Iran and the New York Times, are right there on the same page.
So the religion of peace is so enraged that they are going to follow Ghandi's example and have peaceful marches and call on people to please reconsider their views.
There have been protests where the Pope has been burned in effigy, charactatures have been created of him as a monster and I'm sure some of these people will manage to stirr up violence against Christian minorities in Muslim nations.
Another day, same news.
Looks more like a scene from "The Island of Dr. Moreau"...
Pope to Iran: "Shuttapa you mouf or I'm a gonna senda some crusaders to kicka your scrawny camel ass."
The pope should not apologize. These muslims apparently have a low emotional threshold much like troubled and immature 12 year olds throwing temper tantrums.
One wonders if these protesters are paranoid, borderlines or have anti social personality disorder.
Big Freakin' Deal!! I Denouce the Leadership of Iran as Satanic minions....just bring it Motherf*#%ers!!
Or, more generally:
"For all x, if you accuse us of x, we'll kill you!"
The country with an official Death to America Day demands "moderation."
Pope Benedict will do what he believes is right, and in accordance with Catholic doctrine. He will not be swayed by public opinion, or be influenced by threats.
Apology? Come on, what real, truly focused individual actually wants an apology? Apologies are for losers! Maybe that's why so many democrats are always calling for those apologies. lol Like most of you, I have been abused in the marketplace of ideas, but I never once wanted or expected an apology! Geeze!!! lol

A culture with no sense of irony. Like another poster, I can't figure out if they are all insane, sociopaths, possessed, stupid or what. Or perhaps it is a culture of short men who spend too much time in the hot sun without cold beer and beautiful women in skimpy bathing suits.
please guys and gals, stop buying petroleum based oil.
we are financing these outrageous violent crybabies.
They want to wipe Israel off the map, destroy the West,
and then get offended when someone quotes a 1000 year
old conversation...to them I quote a 2000 year old
question...what do you get if you gain the world, but
lose your soul?
Except that this Pope is German.
Now wait! What happened to the August 22nd return of the 12th Imam that was supposed to be the end of the world and a bigger deal that the second coming of Christ? Why doesn't Iran's goffy I-Slamic government apologize for spreading that appearant bald faced lie?
Or Algore during one of his over-heated rant/speeches!
I make my living with my vehicles. What am I supposed to make 'em go with if I comply with your plaintive plea, pray tell?
What's that supposed to mean/be?
Excuse me, but the Pope did criticize the Nazis for exterminating Jews, and did so repeatedly. Hitler reportedly said that Pope Pius XII was "the one person who has always opposed me".
I've no idea how you get Terror Free Oil....same problem as you would have in the early 1800's getting non slavery cotton!!
Pope to Iran: Zie better shutten zie fatten munde or I'll send some gruppencrusaders over and kick zein camel riding asses! Zie buncha dumbkopfs!
Terror-Free Oil Initiative is dedicated to encouraging Americans to buy gasoline that originated from countries that do not export or finance terrorism. We educate the public by promoting those companies that acquire their crude oil supply from nations outside the Middle East and by exposing those companies that do not. We are also looking into creating a healthy debate concerning alternate methods of fuel production and consumption.
Staged for the cameras of course.
there can be no doubt that opponents of slavery had come to view the South's "peculiar institution," as an obstacle to economic growth. Despite clear evidence that slavery was profitable, abolitionists--and many people who were not abolitionists--felt strongly that slavery degraded labor, inhibited urbanization and mechanization, thwarted industrialization, and stifled progress, and associated slavery with economic backwardness, inefficiency, indebtedness, and economic and social stagnation. When the North waged war on slavery, it was not because it had overcome racism; rather, it was because Northerners in increasing numbers identified their society with progress and viewed slavery as an intolerable obstacle to innovation, moral improvement, free labor, and commercial and economic growth.
On March 14, 1793, Eli Whitney obtained a patent for the cotton gin. The cotton gin made the production of cotton highly profitable. This changed the economics of slavery greatly. Many had believed that slavery would slowly die out, as the tobacco fields (where most slaves were employed) were slowly depleted. The economical production of cotton, on the other hand, greatly increased the economic importance of slavery to the South, thus ensuring its continued dependence on it.
"Dependence on foreign oil jeopardizes our capacity to grow," Bush said in a speech focused on the economy -- a key issue in November elections that might determine whether the GOP retains control of the House and Senate. Democrats contend the middle class isn't enjoying the benefits of U.S. economic gains. They say sluggish median earnings show paychecks have failed to keep pace with inflation, and they note rising health care and energy costs. Gasoline prices have eased over the past month, but Bush warned against continued reliance on oil-producing countries where the United States is unpopular. "The problem is we get oil from some parts of the world and they simply don't like us," Bush said. "And so the more dependent we are on that type of energy, the less likely it will be that we are able to compete, and so people have good, high-paying jobs."
Debating "alternative fuels" would be like joining the local master debater's circular society. No thanks!
What percentage of your productive waking hours do you spend on such wishful thinking? Does it really bring you satisfaction?
I'm an engineer - virtualy every hour I'm awake I think wishfully. How do you prefer to think?
The economics of terror are worthy of inspection. Considering the reality that Islamic fascism and pan-Arab nationalism are the cohesive forces trying to drive all but the Wests cash out of the Middle East - we should be considering alternatives. Its undeniable that energy economics are the primary reason the West is interested in the Middle East. Supporting universal liberty and the rule of law across the region are the only plausible plans to eliminate the threat ME terror threat. The Bush Administration has it right. The status quo cannot continue. The incredible wealth transfer from the West to Middle Eastern leaders ill equipped with the requisit fiscal responsibility has to stop. New leaders there will have to start recycling petro-dollars in progressive instead of regressive ways. The American public especially our teachers and professors are an important part of the story. They are the ones who harbor the capacity to understand and articulate what is happening, so that this and future US administrations have the latitude to do what must be done.
Check out Cotton and Oil
Haven't you heard of the humungeous oil sands in Canada that's larger than Saudi Arabia's reserves?
Haven't you heard the news of Cheveron's discovery on the Gulf of Mexico that is equal to half the current US reserves (which don't even include the off shore sites that GANG-GREEN won't let us drill, or ANWR either?
You are just hyping, marketing and drilling FR!!!
You left out California which has all the oil we need for centuries, all they have to do is reduce the 78% of taxes (ground to pump) and tell the enviros to go to hell!!!!
