Patricia Kennedy Lawford, the sister of President John F. Kennedy and wife of actor Peter Lawford, died at her New York home of complications of pneumonia on Sunday, according to a family statement. She was 82.
"My sister Pat is irreplaceable," Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (news, bio, voting record) said in a statement. "Everyone who knew Pat adored her. She was admired for her great style, for her love and support of the arts, her wit and generosity and for the singular sense of wonder and joy she brought into our lives."
Lawford is survived by four children and 10 grandchildren. Memorial and funeral arrangements are pending
Doesn't sound like Pat and Ted had much in common?
nope
This is so unfair - I'll bet she wasn't a drunken, womanising drug addict...
Or a murderer.
Prayers to Pat and her family.
Nope. I met her once at a Special Olympics event. Full of genuine kindness. The Kennedy women need an extra measure of grace to live cheek to jowl with such pigs as their men.
Another tearful opportunity for the Clintons.
She was a wonderful lady.
Sending prayers
Four children, ten grandchildren. She had a nice life.
You are absolutely correct.
The first time I met her was during a memorial for Kennedy in Chapel Hill back in the late 60's; I was astounded at the wrinkles on her face even back then......and I was completely won over by her graciousness!
I've seen her several times since then at Special Olympic events and though I'm sure she doesn't, she always acts like she remembers me.
So how old is Ted the pig?
RIP. My condolences to the entire family.
He was the last of Joe's litter. Now keep in mind that boars can live quite a while even in spite of the fact that he was the runt.
Last interview with Patricia Kennedy Lawford, December 2005:
Q - "Patricia, if there was one thing you could attribute to your living such a long and fulfilling life, what would you say that thing would be?"
A - "Well, there are a number of things, first of all is faith in God, and the power of prayer, second is the love shared with family members and loved ones, and especially staying the Hell out of Ted's '67 Oldsmobile, that drunk can't drive worth a tinker's damn!"
ROFL... where was that fom?
Mary Jo Kopenche was not available for comment.
I believe that was with some college radio news department, I seem to think it was Ithaca? Not 100 percent sure, but I sure ROFL'd when I read it earlier this year!

circa 1948
Older than the woman he killed.
:)She seemed like a nice Lady.

In a file photo following John F. Kennedy's election as President, family members gathered for this group photo at the Hyannisport, Mass. home of Joseph P. Kennedy, their father, on November 9, 1960. Shown standing, left to right are: Mrs. Robert F. Kennedy; Steve Smith and his wife, Jean Kennedy; John F. Kennedy; Robert Kennedy; sister, Patricia Lawford; Sargent Shriver; brother Ted's wife, Joan; and actor, Peter Lawford. In foreground, left to right: Eunice Shriver, a sister; Joseph P. Her ex husband was quite the cad, though. It's amazing how easily women fall for skirt chasing scoundrels
A lot of secrets about the Kennedys and Marilyn Monroe, among others, died with her.
Reader's Digest had another interesting Marilyn Monroe article.

I read that. Monroe hanging with communists doesn't surprise me much -- she thought leftists were more "intellectual" (probably because they told her they were). I thought it was fascinating to see evidence that RFK was indeed in L.A. that day. I thought so. And the call that she had to the friend who confirmed that RFK told her to lay off and never call the WH again.
I am only more sure that she was murdered. She was quite the threat to the administration. Like cats pooping, the Kennedys did their business (and had their fun) and always needed it covered up afterward.
You reminded me of a story my Dad told me. He had to occasion to meet President Kennedy at the White House on an issue. JFK shook his hand warmly and said, "Nice to see you again." They had never met, but at the time, it was flattering to my Dad as a young professional and the people he had brought with him were impressed. Disagree with his politics, but JFK was a great politician.
Not when that is all they have ever known.
That must seem normal to them.
SoS
Pat: day.
Ted: night.
RIP.
Actually, Ted thinks he is quite the wit. Too bad, he's only half right!
Doesn't sound like Pat and Ted had much in common?]
I wonder when Ted last enjoyed his siter's company. . .given that the 'closeness' of the family is another Kennedy myth. . .<>THAT said. . .it cannot be easy for any Kennedy 'woman' no matter what her relationship to the name.
RIP, Pat. . .and I am sorry for the loss to those who loved her and will miss her.
Well she was married to Arthur Miller...
On the one hand, I feel for the Kennedy women because of what they have had to put up with. But on the other...these women stayed with their men because of the power, privilege and money. I don't know that I would. If I were married to any of those low lifes (and for all their money and privilege, they are pond scum) -- first demonstration of bad behavior and I would have smacked them upside the head with a frying pan.
Rest in Peace, Mrs. Lawford
In what is a semi-amusing curiosity, in the movie "The Rat Pack" which focused a great deal upon the involvement of Sinatra and other questionable types with the Kennedys, I found it ironic that the role of John F. Kennedy was played by noneother than the actor William Peterson, star of the original "CSI". ;)
The Kennedy women were classic enablers, starting with Rose, who was such a pigeon she'd run down the street naked if Joe told her to. Ted drove Joan to drink. Jackie looked away.
That said, Patricia Kennedy Lawford had a very unhappy experience with Peter Lawford and was very hurt by his infidelities, choosing to divorce him in 1966.
She evidently wasn't big on discipline, however, because the Lawford children are reputed to be among the worst of the cousins - in the same league as Ethel's wild offspring.
Your assessment is correct with regard to the wives of the Kennedy men. Classic enablers.
The Kennedy sisters, however, were not without their faults, either. They routinely ridiculed and emasculated their husbands, insisting that the bills be sent to New York for payment and never let their husbands forget who was providing the gravy train.
That said, Patricia Lawford is to be admired for dumping Peter Lawford rather than putting up with his infidelities - and worse.
May she rest in peace.
Fullfilling the photo requirement:
"The Rat Pack" - came out in 1998, was a good flick IMHO.
Another bit of trivia you may already know about, Will Petersen played the role of Will Graham in the prequel to 'Silence of the Lambs, aka 'Manhunter/Red Dragon' (1986, not to be confused with the later release of Red Dragon with Ed Norton portraying Graham.
Manhunter is a sleeper of a movie, and you get to see a VERY young Will Petersen at work, following his lines almost 100% verbatim from the book. It was an excellent production and Brian Cox was a sufficiently menacing Dr. Lecktor, and Tom Noonan was scary as Hell portraying the serial killer at large, Francis Dolarhyde.
If you haven't seen it? It's worth a look!
I not going say bad about Pat Kennedy Lawford GOD Bless her she has put up with Rat Pack crap LOL!
Yes. Remember when they broke the news to Rose Kennedy that Jackie had died.
Her first reaction was, "Was Teddy driving?"
